Only had one dish that was ok and the rest was excellent. The fresh pasta, the sauces and the attention to detail really were impressive. Service was good too. Only negative is the space is like a fish bowl. I like a little more privacy. I would recommend this place to those looking for more refinement in Northern Italian cuisine.

What a great restaurant! The service was fantastic and the food was absolutely as delicious as it gets -- not pretentious, but special and very satisfying. I'm not much of a dessert eater, but I was blown away by the chocolate torte. My strongest recommendation for a great weekday meal, or a place to go for the most special of occasions. I'll be back!

Went there last night for anniversiry. Pasta was really good and the waitress was very pleasent. More expensive than most restuarants but great for special occasions. The lamb meatballs were great!

My husband and I were craving Pici pasta we had tried in Italy. The chef at Gorgio's agreed to make this pasta for us when we arrived. Food and service were excellent! I had a chestnut and celery soup that had a beautiful flavor to it. The atmosphere was cozy and beautiful with lights on wreaths hanging at each window. We had a great time and can't wait to go there again.

We had our first Giorgio's experience a couple months ago and it was incredible. I would highly recommend this both for the quality, delicious Italian food and the service and ambiance. The staff is friendly and very attentive without being overbearing or hovering: a tough balance to pull off as attentive as they were. The setting is beautiful and much care has gone into making it elegant while approachable and very comfortable. The food was prepared perfectly from the appetizers to the salads and entrees to desserts. We would go again anytime and highly recommend it.

I just had such a lovely experience at Giorgio's for lunch that I had to sign up for CitySearch to write a review! I was a tad leery to go, since I had seen some reviews that weren't positive at all...but decided to go anyways based on a friend's recommendation. And I'm glad I did! I loved the daily menu based on season and local organic foods. I decided on skate wing over risotto and peas...something I have never ordered before, but took the waiters advice based on his thorough knowledge of food preparation and willingness to discuss our food options based my specific likes. The food was AMAZING - it was an explosion of tastes that left me wanting more, despite my full belly. Go to Giorgio's if you're looking for an upscale dining experience, with a unique menu, delicious food and very knowledgeable and friendly service!!!!

I dined at Giorgio's for lunch today and was very pleased with the quality and freshness of the cuisine. From the bread to the final course all of the food was very clean and delicious. Our server mentioned the lunch menu changes daily due to the use seasonal and locally grown food used in their dishes. With the details given to us about the cuisine at Giorgio's, our server made some great suggestions. We started with a beautiful beet salad, which was accomponied with fresh greens, roasted pistachios, tangelos, and goat cheese. The goat cheese was not your everyday run of the mill pick; it had a creamy consistency and was very flavorful. My entree was wild board served with a red sauce atop house-made pasta, which was absolutely mouthwatering. We had a chance to speak briefly with owner, who was very friendly and gracious. Highly recommended.

Anyone who knows anything about Italian food and hospitality would know that this places is a typical over priced, overrated, sub par dining establishment, that caters to people with low expectations and palates. Perhaps it was the 1 hour wait for our food; or perhaps it was the fact that the under cooked chicken (I am not talking about cutting open a breast to find it under cooked; I am talking delicate slices presented under cooked) presented an undesired illness. We did, however receive the token apologies a few times between the delay and poor preparation, but only enough to make sure we get charged for everything full price. Now that is a place worth dining.

Giorgio?s has become the restaurant I go to for special occasions; simply because I know that I will have a wonderful dining experience. The food is always spot on. I?ve never had a dish that wasn?t near perfect. Their homemade pastas are always amazingly delicate. I?ve have some very nice seasonal fish dishes. My last visit I tried their duck ragu, and was tempted to get it again for dessert, but I didn?t want to miss out on their dessert menu! While many restaurant have amazing food, but average desserts, all the desserts I?ve had at Giorgio?s have been wonderful- some of the best I?ve ever had. The service has always been great. Every time I go I have a perfect evening.

Having heard that the chef at Giorgio?s was a veteran of Per Se in NYC, we knew we had to give it a shot. Given this info, our expectations were understandably high, and yet, the meal managed to exceed these expectations. We were greeted immediately, seated promptly, and found the service very attentive without crossing the line into invasive (request Zach). We started with a sunburst squash salad (the only wouldn't-necessarily-order-it-again item we tasted) and the caramelized Walla Walla sweet onion salad - which was incredible, both in flavor and presentation. For our next course, we opted to share the house specialty, the handmade pappardelle with duck. Though the dish wasn't particularly inventive - it was PERFECTLY executed, with an ideal balance of flavors (not overly salty as many duck dishes are!) and I'll absolutely order this dish again and again. For our main courses we chose the rib eye and scallops - both were truly outstanding. The desserts were delicious; however, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to have dessert here. Other reviewers seem to fault portion sizes or prices, however we found the prices par for the course (if not slightly lower?) and portion sizes similar to all high-end, food-focused restaurants. We will definitely dine at Giorgio?s again.

My husband and I went to Giorgio's last week and we were very unimpressed. The restaurant was not that busy but we had to wait forever for our food. A group of 3 and another person came in after us and received their food before us and had left before our food came. No explanation as to why, no apologies, and my meal tasted like it had been sitting around for awhile. We had both basically finished our glasses of wine before our meals came and no offer was made to get a second glass. Also, the salad advertised gorgonzola cheese, and that was not the cheese served. Needless to say the waitress got a very poor tip and we will not be back.

If you like McDonald's, don't go here. If you like artificial flavors, don't go here. If, however, you like fresh flavors, handmade pasta, and good service, GO HERE. I agree with other reviews: if you don't like good food you will not like Giorgio's. You know who you are. I was almost scared away by the negative reviews - don't be. Follow your instincts straight to NW 10th and Hoyt. My husband and I are both vegetarians and found 2 entrees and numerous starters from which to choose. Handmade gnocchi was fabulous. The desserts were also amazing - try the panna cotta, with a hint of white chocolate. My only warning is that you may want to request a table in the corner to avoid the busy right-of-way. However, we were seated in this busy section and were not bothered - the busyness was entertaining, not distracting or invasive.

Giorgio's food is fantastic. Period. This is by far the best place to bring clients for an upscale (very expensive) lunch. Start to finish, every little morsel is perfect. Now where is everyone? I hope they don't discontinue their lunch service because it always seems to be slow.
Keep up the good work!!!

This place was a haven while searching for a precious outdoor table in the Pearl without being singed in the afternoon sun. The waitress, Micheala, was very nice and the food was awesome. Interesting cocktails made this charming restaurant feel like our own private, sidewalk lounge. The hen was yummy and the tables outside were nice and shady.

I live in Seattle but have been to Giorgio's approximately 10 times when in Portland on vacation and business. The combination of phenomenal food, friendly atmosphere, elegance, and intimate size make it a more enjoyable combination than any restaurant in Seattle. Each of my visits has been a great experience -- from the first time 18 months ago when my wife & I ate with snow falling under the street lights outside our table by a window, to the latest visit a few weeks ago, when my 2 colleagues from Seattle praised me for taking them to the best restaurant they'd ever visited.

The menu is completely seasonal and based on what is fresh each day. Preparations are delicate, perfect, and beautifully presented. As the editorial review notes, it is basically French-style preparation of modern Italian dishes. The dishes are imaginative and creative; I am always surprised and delighted to try the new ideas they are presenting that I've never seen before.

The kitchen is very accommodating -- if you ask, they can recommend changes to items on the menu to suit your taste. For instance, there are always 1 or 2 vegetarian entrees, but they will gladly consider ways to prepare meat-based items in a vegetarian alternative. The wine list is excellent and reasonably priced for the selections. They feature a number of well-selected wines; the local Oregon selections (such as Lemelson, one of my favorites) are particularly good. Service is friendly, helpful, and efficient.

Why are there some bad reviews? Giorgio's is only for foodies, that is, people who love beautiful, creative, and delicious food and are willing to pay for it. Those who want a fast dinner (good food takes time), a large dinner (French/Italian style is elegant and small), a cheap dinner (immaculate & fresh preparation is expensive) or who expect "standard" dishes (Giorgio's showcases creativity) will be disappointed. It is a place only for people who love great food.

Giorgios is an intimate Italian restaurant. The food and wine are authentic. This is one of our favorite spots for a romantic dinner or impressing out-of-towners. The food is very well priced for both quality and quantity. The wine list is impressive with many wonderful options but is a little pricier. Excellent service and attention to detail.

I have heard/read many great reviews about this place and the new chief who was trained under Thomas Keller. We went for Valentine's Day. It was fabulous! Excellent service. Incredible flavor. Knowledgable staff. Cute little bar to have a quick martini before dinner. I am already planning my next visit so we can taste more plates. The wild boar pappardelle is to DIE FOR. I wanted to pick my plate up and lick it and my friend's as well. Perfectly cooked pasta and meat sauce. aaahhhh....yummmm

The lighted wreaths in the window caught my eye. Very expensive for what you get. I enjoyed a small complimentary taste of soup. The apple salad was tastless. I didn't eat it and was not charged. I ordered medium well beef. It was medium well on the edge. I ate the edge. There were a few small bites of potato & carrot. There was a small complimentary mushroom ravioli that was good. The lemon tart with honey sorbet was good. Expensive. Not worth it.

I truly respect and appreciate the fine dining at Giorgios. The blending of flavors are exquisite. I literally hold each bite in my mouth to fully enjoy this remarkable culinary experience. I have never felt rushed and I appreciate the attention received from both the staff and its proprietor.

There is an understated elegance to the decor which creates a relaxed feeling. I highly recommend Giorgios.

I have been a long term customer and fan of Giorgio's. I truly believe that this is clearly on of Portland's finest restaurants. Chef Peter Shue is fabulous and his work at Per Se in NYC comes shining through. He is creative and his prepartions are very well thought out and presented. This is small, intimate setting that allows all to enjoy the entire experience. Those who may not be fans have not been here in many mant years and their commnets are wildly outdated. Visit Giorgios, you will come back and thank me for pusing you along!!

I live in the Pearl and I joined my brother and sister-in-law for dinner at Giorgios. We were perfect customers. We had cocktails and hor's deurves; salads; entrees; a nicer bottle of wine; dessert and coffee. Our two hour dining experience went just fine. But as we were finishing dessert and coffee the owner presented the check and said "I HAVE TO ASK YOU TO LEAVE NOW BECAUSE I NEED YOUR TABLE FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE WAITING." I couldn't believe such rudeness after dropping close to $200 plus tip. If only he had politely explained his dilemma and invited us to the bar for a departing cordial I would have been more understanding. I felt absolutely insulted by this arrogant jerk's flip attitude after having been a "perfect" customer. I will never return. Ever. This guy needs to learn the most basic rules of customer service.

Open for the first time on Christmas Eve, Giorgio's was a classy experience. Service was excellent, in spite of the fact that the tables were all filled soon after 5:30. Simple elegance...and excellent food. We had 5 appetizers, 3 entrees--lamb, duck, and bass, 2 desserts....and two bottles of wine. A dream of an evening.

What a fantastic restaurant! The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely as good as it gets -- not pretentious, but special and very satisfying. I'm not much of a dessert eater, but I was blown away by the chocolate torte. My strongest recommendation for a great weekday meal, or a place to go for the most special of occasions. I'll be back!

Went there a few weeks ago with some friends.

Not quite Italian perhaps, but beautifully executed and presented inf French style!

Fish was fresh and lively, the meats delicate, noodles somewhat unable to stand up to their sauce - but they were nice and delicate.

Service was proper and informative, seating prompt in the somewhat small dining room. We didn't care much for the decor but we were all comfortably sit.

If it were less expensive, we'd go more often.

The warm yellows of the walls and gracious smiles of the servers at Giorgio's made a wonderful welcome into a quaint yet upscale dining area as we were promptly seated by the host. The fare is not for the very finicky as non-traditional meats such as buffalo and guinea hen speckled the menu. The skatefish was flaky and cooked to tender perfection. Their chive gnocchi lightly tossed in a creme fraiche sauce drizzled with truffle oil left my palate wanting more, despite my incessant reach for their surprisingly tasty, yet airy bread. Their panna cotta washed any hunger away with its creamy and delicate texture, perfectly balanced with the rasberries laced within. Although pricier than many places, Giorgio's makes splurging on your tastebuds unforgettable.

I don't understand why this place is not mobbed every night. I haven't eaten in every restaurant in town, Giogio's blows away the more well-known places with food that is sophisticated but not fussy or complicated. From the lentil salad to the hand-made pasta to the lamb, the flavors are just on another level from anyplace else in Portland.

The wait staff is pleasant but varies somewhat in competence; some servers seem to lack confidence, but the more experienced are everything that you want in a server; knowledgeable about the dishes without being pompous or overbearing.

I've lived all over the US and eaten in my share of overrated, overpriced restaurants. To me, Giogrio's is simply the perfect restaurant.

Pros: Food, Food , Food

For such an extremely small--and young--kitchen staff, Giorgio's is a top-notch restaurante. Excellent food that is meticulously prepared makes for a dinner to enjoy and remember.

Giogio's is a oasis in the midst of all the high-brow restaurants in the Pearl District. Been there 3 times and Giogio (the owner) greets everyone and remembers them. The bar is well run and the food is excellent. The staff is friendly and very accommodating.

Giogio works the floor and helps out where needed. He does not stand around.

I highly recommend the place.

I've eaten at lunch several times and find the menu and the food really great. Very tasty and always fresh and well prepared. Great service. Lovely light and airy atmosphere on gloomy grey days. We thoroughly enjoy our meals. Not your ordinary pasta and red sauce.

Wonderful first time experience at Giorgios. It was my good friends 30th B'day and the meal and service could not have been better. Just the right amount of food!! Waiter was dead on with the wine selection, delicious with the meal. Not recommended for the cheap, all-you-can-eat crowd, stick to Red Lobster. This food is and tastes homemade, nothing out of the can. Expect to be dazzled!

Pros: Intimate feel, No kids, No smoking

Way overpriced, and even called back to see if it was maybe a mistake. I asked the owner about it and he was flip and rude. Maybe that is why it is always emty, no?

As someone who travels as part of my career, I am fortunate to dine in some very amazing places. Giorgio's is one of those places. This is not simply a place to eat, but a place to experience. The menu is both innovative and addicting - I dream about their denver-cut veal medallions (fall/winter menu). The staff is courteous and well-informed about all aspects of the menu including preparation and content. Most important though is the ever-present owner Giorgio Kawas. Each time I visit he greats me by name and makes a point to stop by the table at least twice during my stay. Giorgio's has an hand-selected wine list fit for all budgets. Dining at Giogio's makes everyday a special one!

Owner Giorgio Kawas grew up in Northern Italy, and that region's culinary heritage is the foundation of his namesake restaurant. It's an elegant, understated space that doesn't earn the same level of attention as some of its glitzy Pearl…
