This is a great place in an up and coming area of Portland. The staff were nice and very helpful and patient as I kept changing my mind on what kind of pizza to order. The bar in the back is eclectic and neat with a bartender that knows her stuff. We were lucky enough to see a great show and can't wait to see another with good food, good drinks and great friends. I highly recommend!

I have been patronizing this place from its very beginning and everything keeps improving. The staff is energetic and ready to help you and the pizza is really excellent. They offer lots of beer at pretty good prices. The food is semi-expensive, but nothing more than youd expect for a place of this caliber.

PROS: live music, funky decor
CONS: expense

Being a poor student, I've only had the Mississippi's gourmet and delicious pies a few times, as they tend to be out of my price range.
However, I went there to celebrate the end of finals and my friend and I ordered a pitcher of Pabst. They had run out of PBR, so we got Fat Tire instead, which they gave us at the Pabst price. Wasn't that nice? I thought so.

PROS: family-friendly division between restaurant and bar
CONS:

If you want great pizza, this is the place to hang out on weekend nights, the line swings out the door. Best part, though, is the unique live music that plays almost every night of the week. The restaurant is split between family and minor access, there is a fancy-nouveau bar at the back. Definitely a trendy place on an up and coming street.

We went to Mississippi Pizza pub late on a Friday night, hungry. The outside of the place looked really interesting, lively, and inviting, and I noticed it's right next to (or part of?) the Atlantis Lounge. I was a little put off at first when we walked up to the counter and were ignored for a second while two employees finished a conversation, but this was quickly resolved by the friendly and outgoing attitude once we were acknowledged.

The pizza was delicious and surprisingly inexpensive. My guy enjoyed a simple pepperoni slice along with a veggie piece, and said they were "sooooo good." My vegan slice was incredible, with lots of flavorful veggies and even the option of soy cheese. Nom! The crust was really crispy and flavorful as well.

We were too tired to check out the scene next door at Atlantis lounge, but the music coming from the open door was upbeat, fun, and just really nice to listen to as we ate. Great scene.

So, I'm convinced these people were sent here from heaven! Do you have any idea what it's like to try to eat out with celiac disease? Having to ask 5 million questions, avoiding nearly every item on the menu just to make sure. It's enough to make you feel like a freak, let alone remove every possible bit of enjoyment out of dining out. But, Mississippi Pizza Pub was amazing, informative and above all kind. Really thoughtful people work there, which is nice to find in a world that generally suffers from a serious shortage of kindness. Did I mention they have Gluten Free beer? It was like being transported to some parallel universe. I love this place!

Mississippi pizza is nothing short of amazing. The atmosphere is great for all ages. It entertains the children so adults can converse. During a recent visit to Portland we saw the spot while visiting a boutique in the area. Being a beautiful sunny day the restaurant was inviting and fun. They feature live music every night as well as entertainment for children on certain nights. As well Mississippi Pizza caters to large corporations. The server gave my friend a Gift Certificate for her company and offered to deliver Pizza to their meetings and events. Aside from the many features of the pub, the Pizza as amazing. It is made to order and the children got to watch as it was put in the oven. I highly recommend this place for all ages and all types!!!!!

pizza's good, its hip, theres always music, but the staff is poo. they do this thing when you get more than one slice of pizza where they stack your hot slices one on top of the other so, they melt together. so if you want to be ignored by some douchey hippies that stack hot slices of pizza so it all turns to poo, eat here!

My friend invited me to this pizza place on Mississippi, and I though it would be a great idea because I like to try out different pizza eateries. However, the decor was boring and I agree with Kiter that the staff did not have any personality. One thing I seen was flies on the fan above the pizza trays on the counter and I instantly got turned off. The next thing I witness was a gentleman who works there was making the pizza by hand and when one of the ladies was leaving for the evening he reached out and hug her with the other hand while the pizza dough was hanging down near the floor in the other hand. I felt like he did not respect food and when we made eye contact he did not have the look of embarrassment. Lastly, the sauce was bland, I could do better and I suggest AMERICAN DREAM PIZZA if you want some pizza out of this world. .

We've been to Mississippi Pizza many, may times. We went weekly for months and have always found pizza and staff to be great. I love how the windows open up in the summer. I definitely think they're among the best pizza spots in Portland.

Pros: Pizza, man

I grew up on the east coast. In the first 19 years of my life there, I ate a LOT of pizza. I've had pizza all over new york, new jersey, and philly. (jersey is the best, I swear!) So I feel I can give some decent perspective when it comes to the quality and authenticity of a good slice of pizza. Mississippi pizza has good, traditional, east coast style pizza. I've eaten pizza at plenty of places here in town, and have had plenty of good slices, but mississippi pizza reminds me the most of home. I really enjoy the atmosphere there as well. It's divided into 3 areas; the front is a lot like a traditional east coast pizza joint, pretty basic. This flows into a more cozy area with an area for live music. The lounge in the back is my favorite though, and has a full bar.

My favorite pizza place in Portland, and there's a lot of good places around. The crust is crispy without being too crunchy and they always have a great selection of pizza by-the-slice.

If expensive crappy pizza, rude service, loud unchecked children running around, and untalented patrons trying to play "heart and soul" on the piano are what you're looking for in a pizza pub....well then, stop looking! This is the place for you. Pizza sauce that tases just like tomato paste....YUMMY! Whole uncooked cloves of garlic....Delicious!! $22 for 4 slices and a salad... What a bargain!! Let's face it west coast natives, you don't have any idea what pizza is.

Pros: no heroin junkies in the restrooms

Cons: dirty unbussed tables

Great for a casual date, always live music (always interesting if nothing else), a slice of pizza, spicy cesar , and a pint right from the tap while sitting back and taking in the local flavor is about as good as it gets. I'll be hanging out the open windows there alllll summer.

Pros: Great flavor, great atmosphere

Cons: almost becoming too popular for its own good, crowded and hot on the oven side in the summer

The live music makes this pizza place festive and casual. On weekends, tables can be difficult to get unless you get there early. Pizza is a nice gourmet style (many with olive oil/garlic sauce) ...not flooded with cheap tomato sauce like icky Pizza Hut. I rate them less than perfect because their pizza quality is not consistent. I've had it overcooked (more than just a little burnt) more than a couple times. Also, the tables/chairs in the music area room could be in a little better repair....or more sturdy. I like eclectic, but I don't want to feel like things are shoddy. Definitely a great foundation...a good manager could make it even better.

I love eating lunch at this place. The pizza is excellent. I always enjoy a spinach salad with my 2 slices and the people are very friendly. I really wish they had Redhook my favorite beer on tap.

This a fun neighborhood place. Mom's old sofa, some flea market tables and great pizza. Great live music and bring the kids--they like them. only one rude employee, besides him, an outstanding crew.

This place has it all, but in a weird way it works. A pizza place, wine room, and live music venue all rolled into one joint. I was only there to hear some music so I didn't partake in anything except for beer. The place was a bit dead the night I was visiting, but it has charm. Also, it is a bit off the beaten path.

These perfect ten scores musta come from owners or employees or friends because it's obvious that The Mississippi is not a pefect TEN. Best pizza in town? There's NO SAUCE! And the descriptions of the decor make it sound like this is gonna be some swank N'Awlins type joint. The furnishing are pretty cool, but plain. And when someone asks if you have A/C (rare but on this particular evening it was 101 fahrenheit) you should answer with all honesty the way the Delta Cafe did: "Yeah we have air conditioning, but it doesn't really feel like it." As for the band, it was an unexpected treat, not knowing exactly when bands play here ... a jazz/klezmer type five-piece, but guys ... learn how to play without sheet music! I respect that and loathe it at the same time. You can't really FEEL the music when you're painting by numbers.
