I can't believe anybody would have negative comments about Noho's. First, lets focus on service. I believe that great service is very important and the staff working at Noho's is with out a doubt the best. My wife have been eating at

Sometimes restaurants will advertise huge portions, and then not deliver. I did not feel that this was the case here. Be aware, though, that not all the dishes are the same size, but rather come in degrees of hugeness. A large-sized basic teriyaki chicken, for example, is not quite as huge as the Korean chicken (ok, so that's the only example that I know of; I'm still waiting for a grant to conduct the rest of my research).

Other notes:
-The green salad was subpar, but the "tropical" dressing was tastier than I expected.

-The place was actually crowded, not what I expected for 11:30am on a Monday.

-The prices have risen, at least for all of the chicken dishes. From what I recall they are about $1.75 higher than the prices now posted on Noho's website.

-The server was friendly without being overbearing, and had a great smile.

So, I have only been here once. I will continue to go, and doubt that I will have as many bad things to say as I have seen on here.
The server is somewhat dry, but not rude or bad. It is not like the other trendy hipster places around.
I felt compelled to write a review because I saw so many bad ones. Surprised.
My husband got korean ribs and chicken with garlic, both spicy, rice and mac salad. A side of veggies, big for price. Overall a little pricey, but it is in hipster SE.

The food was quick, delicious, and unique. DELICIOUS!
The server was quick, efficient, and helpful.

This used to be my favorite casual restaurant in Portland. 1. The macaroni salad was the best on the planet. 2. Their entrees were always the freshest, best quality. 3. With three different portion sizes you were sure to get a great value (not cheap, but a good value).

Is it a sign of the times that in order to cut costs, restaurants are forced to sacrifice quality, decrease portion sizes and omit special spices? Well, then, NoHo's seems to have followed this rule.
I have been visiting this establishment for 10 years--and have always ordered the same menu item (their #13). Recently, I have been to NoHo's 4 times in the last 2 months. And today's visit will probably be my last. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but no longer--4 chances is my limit. My takeout order was completely wrong (and I live over 30 miles away so going back was not an option), the portion sizes were 75% of their usual (the large size used to come with 2 mac salads and 3 rice. mine had 1 mac salad and 2 rice and the entree should have been called Hot and Spicy Onions), and the chicken had a funky smell and taste. And there was absolutely no spice whatsoever! It's like I received the wrong order, but since my other entree was correct (just overcooked and made with the lowest quality beef I have ever had--picture beef jerky), I knew they didn't give me the wrong order; it was just incorrect. I cannot continue to spend my hard earned money at a place that I cannot count on. This is a very sad day.
I don't know what has happened--new owner, new cook, new management, new business plan?? Someone made a bad decision, and in today's economy I think this bad decision is going to cost NoHo's their business.

NoHo's used to be consistently great. Now, they are consistently horrid.

Like I said, a very sad day indeed!

This is great hawaiian food - I love the spicy korean chicken, and their homemade macaroni salid is amazing. My kids love the teriyaki chicken and rice.

So this is my first review on a restaurant - but I've been working in restaurants for years as a server. I've never felt compelled to write one, but I feel like I should warn you! My friend and I both have 3 month old babies.. so we figure, it'd be better if they scream outside than in this little restaurant and ruin everyones lunch, I asked to sit outside, and all our server said was "I'm not serving outside" Short and Rude.... Alright, so we sat inside. We sat there for probably 15 minutes before she came back to give us water... meanwhile she's dropping off food at the table next to us. They sat there for 5-7 minutes w/out any silverware and had to ask her for it!! So we get out waters, ...then have to ask to order our lunch. My friend asks how the macaroni salad is, and this girl just looked at her.......then says there's macaroni in it. Holy $&*^!! Really?? She takes our order, the food came up quick, which was great, and the food was good. Not really impressed w/ the bowl of iceberg lettuce that they call a salad, but everything else was good. I'm hoping that the owner or a manager reads this and realizes that they've gotta get rid of this girl. She was the only server there, short dark hair, we went in at about 1pm on Mon. Aug. 19 ......and she's wasn't just short and rude to us.. the place is small enough to hear what's going on at other tables too. One woman asked for a to-go cup for her iced tea.. and all the server said was "no cups" WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD..... EVER. If I go back, it will be for take-out. The one star rating is for the service......I'd give a negative rating to her if I could... But I'd give the guys in the kitchen 4.

I was the Bartender at your beautiful wedding. I am sorry there was a lack of communication during 8 months.
But I understand Noho met with you personally on site and went over plans and details. He then writes up all
that was planned, he even called me excited about the details. It is ludicrous to think in the middle of the
busy wedding season that you would be checked on weekly. You were very organized and you had a Wedding
Planner who as we understood should have checked on and taken care of your wishes. As it was your guest
count was down to about 50-60 people but you had beverages for at least 300 . Your reception was only three
hours long because of the darkness and we brought 14 bags of ice. Your Wedding Planner should have gone for ice and also been on top of anything missing, because these things happen. You had him, myself and 3 on site caterers all wanting your day to go well. Any one of us could have ran back for the missing food. Some communication on your end would have been nice. You should be compensated
for the missing food but you have affected all of us by writing a bad check to Noho and it is against the Law

Good food, good prices. Highly recommend the kahlua pork and korean chicken. Definitely a good spot to go and pick up lunch for a nice change of pace from your typical teriyaki shop fare.

I went to Noho for the first time this week with my sister, who loves the place, my mother and my 3 year old daughter. We opted to sit outside so I missed on the atmosphere inside BUT the waitress, a soft spoken gal who was very attentive, brought my daughter a half glass of juice telling me that because the drinks have free refills she thought the little one would prefer it. I only ordered food for adults thinking we'd share with my daughter but the waitress brought her a little bowl of white rice with lightly flavored shredded chicken. I was so touched that she paid such attention to the "joys" of taking a child out to a resteraunt.
The waitress also giggled with us through the pronunciation of the sizes of the meals letting us know that the menehue was probably ample and that blahah may be too large unless we wanted left overs...
I loved it and it sits on a cute corner of Clinton and 26th so we enjoyed the foot traffic around us and the shops nearby.

Aside from the excellent food, I would come here simply for the fact that I am SO impressed with the customer service I recently experienced. After a not-so-great experience with an employee at the Cedar Hills location (who is longer there) I called to express my concern to management. When I called I spoke to Noho himself who more than compensated me for my meal. I honestly felt that he was glad I called.

Seriously, delicious food (try the Ono or Korean chicken), great guest service and a local business (I think!). Please try this place out. You will be giving your business to a genuine person and establishment.

GARBAGE GARBAGE GRABAGE

Way over priced. Food was horrible, fatty, salty and greasy. The service was the worst! You would think we are used to bad service with the amount of hipster servers in that area. I had to ask 10 times to get water so I could choke down their food. I normally give a place 2 chances. First time was at a wedding they catered. After hearing the nightmare story they went though with Noho?s I would never recommend them to anyone. Now after eating the GARBAGE they call food I will never return to that dump again. Did I mention how dirty the place is?!?!

I have to admit, it's tempting to keep quiet about Noho's fantastic food. After all, who wants the whole world at your favorite restaurant?..........But, I'll squelch my selfishness to tell you that Noho's has the BEST chicken. I always order the same thing - the Ono Chicken. It's so good it practically melts in your mouth.=========================== The seating is pretty tight at the Clinton Street location, so don't expect a private dining experience --- just expect great food & fast service.

This place is a tiny corner location of a popular intersection in SE Portland. Be prepared for a small wait if you come during typical peak meal periods. You must try Phil's ono chicken. Deliciously tender and huge portions. I always end up with take-home too. I'm not hawaiian but am 1/2 asian and love their sticky white rice!

This is where I go when i want grilled meat. I love the spicy Korean chicken - and the spicy Korean ribs. I also like the Teriyaki Beef. If you are really hungry, order the Yakisoba noodles. The portions are quite large. If I want to finish it all, I order the smallest size "menehune". If i want to take some home, i order the regular size. They do have vegetables here too, but you have to like your vegetables very much on the crunchy side. IMaybe it's healthier that way, but I like my broccoli cooked a little more.

They have great Hawaiian food but I was turned off by the prices.
It was like a tourist being gouged at one of those fake luaus you go to the first time you go to Hawaii.
There are much more better places in town with a better value for your buck.
Staff was friendly. Service was good.
With all of the great Hawaiin Restaurants in the area, this was OK overall.

Those who are gushing over this place must not get out much. Just like the tourist who visits Hawaii and stays at Waikiki, has a great time, but goes nowhere else. Then thinks thats all there is to Hawaii. Boy are they wrong! There is much more. Just like there are much better Hawaiin Restaurants.

Noho's is one of the few restaurants that we missed in the 7 years that we were away from Portland. I always looked forward to stopping by Noho's as soon as we got into town. Now that we live here agian, we have gotten in to our old habbits and we get take out there at least once a week. The Yakisoba with Ono Chicken, Sesame Oil and Oyster sauce is the best. The teriyaki beef and Kaluha Pork are solid as well. The service is always super friendly, the prices are cheap and the place is kid friendly. I am glad to see that Noho's is growing, they deserve it.

Phil's Ono chicken and Spicy Korean ribs. That's it. You can't go wrong with that tandem like Abbott and Costello, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Watson and Crick. Like most Hawaiian fare, it's heavy on the meat and starches (rice and mac salad) and veggies are nary to be seen. Large portions (especially Blalah size) and prices are commensurate. Fresh seafood is usually on the menu and also is prepared well, but again, the staples that Noho's is known for are the chicken and beef.
Quaint setting located across the street from Clinton St. Theatre, and great for people watching. Expect a 10-15 minute wait for a table during dinner hours, but say Hi to Noho when he's in, as he will talk story with you.
They also cater events, so keep that in mind next time you're trying to feed a hungry army, and want to keep them at bay.

Highly Recommended!

Pros: Great Hawaiian cuisine on the eastside!

Cons: Smallish cafe setting with a wait, but it is homey feeling.

My wife and I just went there lst night for the first time. The environment was cozy and comfortable and the service was excellent! I decided to try the Kaluha Pig and my wife went for the Teriyaki Chicken. Both dishes were absolutely fabulous! I can't say enough about the Kaluha Pig!!! I got an extra large order, simply so I could take leftovers home! The portions are big and the taste is superb! This will now be a favorite place for us!

Nohos is just good... no arguing about it. They cook some amazing ono and teri chicken and short ribs, the mac salad is creamy and will make you have a huge bum if you eat it on the regular, but its all good in moderation! I can't say enough about this place, however, it's small so don't take your family of 14 there and expect to get seated promptly!

Pros: great hawaiian food

Cons: too small for your family of 14

They have the best Hawaiian food I've eaten since I moved from Hawaii. I can't get better than that. Their portions are very generous, could use more veggies, but overall, I love the Kalua!!!!

I know a few people that rave about Noho's Cafe. They specialize in grilled Hawaiian style meats. The portions are very large, even the small portions and they are available in different sizes. The chicken I had was fairly tasty, juicy and well prepared but the lack of veggies and large amount of meat on my plate left underwhelmed at the anticipation of the next bite. Before dinner came a salad, the saddest salad this side of Denny's, large chunks of iceberg lettuce with a little grated carrot and tons of dressing, not my idea of healthy or tasty eating. If you are in the mood for lots of nicely cooked although plainly dressed meats this may be the place for you and it is served on a large portion of plain white rice. If you are looking for fiber of any sort in your diet this not a good choice.

PROS: well grilled meats, large potion, very reasonable pricing
CONS: bland food, very little vegetables

We went to Noho's for the first time since moving here from Kauai a few years ago. No lau-lau, no kalua pork, no oxtail soup, not much fish, NO POI, and out of saimin. Our lunch wasn't bad and the service was really good (plenny aloha!) but pretty pricy for plate lunch. Flavors seemed adjusted for west coast taste, not better or worse, but different from what we were used to on Kauai.

Pros: Service

Cons: No Hawaiian staples, how can they not have

All the dishes are perfect comfort food - many just like I've had in Hawaii. The savory chicken with rice and macaroni salad are a perfect guilty pleasure and enough for two. A great take out option when I'm in the neighborhood

The noodle dishes seem to come with TONS of noodles, a couple of pieces of veggi's, and some meat but not enough to compete with the noodles. I would like it better if they took half of the noodles away and added 20X the vegetables. However it is very salty, sugary, oily, and expensive so I only go there a couple of times a year.

Pros: flavorful food, huge portions, cozy atmosphere

Cons: expensive, unhealthy, not enough vegetables

I had heard great things about their food, but was sadly disappointed. I left feeling unsatisfied & would not go back again. The food was way too salty and laden with fat. At least I did not pay a lot of money or wait long for a table!

Been going here for years..........even when it was a place called Local Boyz. While the food is simple, it is also very good and can be had in gargantuan proportions if wanted. There are times when it is just what the doctor ordered, and has enough diversity on the menu to please most folks. Carnivores delight, and a great place for kids!

You can only truly judge Noho's if you are familiar with authentic Hawaiian fare. This place has it. The key thing to remember here is you will get a lot of food! My advice split your order with a friend! Try everything-- it all is soooo gooood.

Pros: best Korean ribs, fun service staff, TASTY food

Cons: , small dining room

Nothing's duller than a whining vegetarian, but here goes. The yakisoba is billed as a "mound of noodles and vegetables." Should be "mound of noodles, and a vegetable or two." If your criterion for great food is sheer mass, this is your place. But be warned: you pay for it.

Nice cozy restaurant with a window view of the quaint Clinton St neighborhood. Phil Ono's chicken here tastes great, I often order this dish. If you're in an adventureous mood, be sure to get the Spicy Korean Ribs.

Good grief was this place good! It was our first time there, but I'd definitely go back. The service was quick and friendly, the portions huge (we ordered medium) and the prices reasonable. I love the neighborhood as well. Free kids meal for my 2 year old niece!

Noho's has the main components for a good restaurant: friendly wait staff, good food, and a good niche. Both the teriyaki and their house special chicken were excellent--moist and flavorful! Their macaroni salad has a unique--and good--flavor. This has definitely made it into my rotation of restaurants.

Nine bucks for an appetizer that they call lunch? I thought Polynesians like to eat? I like to eat and I walked away hungrier than when I walked in. Plus, they wanted me to cough up another buck or so to get a refill on Coke. What a joke. I say for $9 you ought to get full and maybe one refill if it's not too much trouble. The food was pretty good and for my three-year-old daughter it would have been a nice-sized kids meal but for an adult, no. To sum up, tastes great, less filling.

Pros: good for dieters, cute waitresses, can't think of one

Cons: expensive, small portions, cramped

After making an extra special trip to this much talked-up restaurant, my friend and I were told that many items (notabley lau lau's) were only served on Friday's, as they were shipped up from Hawaii and no cook on site could prepare the dishes. I think the website, citysearch, or someone should have mentioned this to us, but instead our orders were turned down and we left with empty bellies. I'm sure this restaurant may be a good one, I just advise you go on a Friday to get the food your after. And since their food is shipped from the great Island, I'm sure it's authentic, but now I wonder about it's freshness. . . so good luck to you.

This is great traditional "plate lunch" hawaiian style food. But traditional Hawaiian prices, it is not. The mac salad is to die for as is the rest of the food---takes me back to Hawaiia. But they are not the only game in town serving plate lunch specials. Prices are too expensive compared to the competition. And the service and speed at which your food arrives needs much help. Don't get me wrong, I love their food, just not worth going out of your way for it. Mahalo...

It's the only place in town I know of where you can get a real Hawaiian plate lunch. Sooo yummy. Makes me miss Hawaii.
