My wife and I stopped by here this last week, and had to come back after a quick trip to the bank for cash. NOTE: Gloria's is cash only, it's worth it though.

Since I had heard good things about the Mole, I went with that while my wife

The food at Gloria's is top notch, home cooked food. The pupusas are the best you can get outside of El Salvador.

Service is friendly and efficient. It's usually Gloria herself cooking and waiting tables.

The new phone number for reservations and special orders is 503-268-2124.

There is a Web site, too, with a menu: gloriassecretcafe dot com

(The site made us rate ourselves -- but we probably deserve 5 stars anyway) :-)

This is a small Salvadorean restaurant. There just a few tables inside and during the summer there are a couple more tables outside. It has a limited number of items on the menu. Typically it is only open for lunch. I used to make a point of going at least a couple of times a week when I worked reasonably close to it. Alas my current job makes it almost impossible to make it over there for lunch. My favorite items are the tamales and pupusas. The combination of flavors in them are wonderful. These dishes typically come with a couple of sides that complement their flavor as well. I haven't taken anyone there who has not enjoyed their dishes greatly. Gloria does all the cooking herself and typically comes out of the kitchen to chat and find out how you liked your meal. The wait staff are usually one of her family members. If she is shortstaffed she may also come out and wait on you herself as well. She takes cash only. She does have a small atm there if you find yourself short.

I went to Gloria's for the first time this week. I had walked past it many times and was always quite curious, but for some reason I never made it in. I was in a hurry & needed food to go, and Gloria was very helpful. She recomended something that would be fast & easy for her to make & let me tell you; it was delicious! I can't wait to go back again; next time I'm taking my husband!

Pros: Very friendly atmosphere, Fast, Delicious!

Cons: Very tiny, not a lot of seating.

I have yet to get away during the day to visit the cafe; however have visited Gloria at Beaverton market and savored one fartistically prepared, flavorful vegan tamale that was ooh so delicioius! Gloria's loves what she does and it shows with her heartful enthusiasm to ensure someone else loves her food too. So stop by the market or the cafe and try something El Salvadorian!

Half the fun of this place is Gloria, who is friendly, opinionated and a stand out cook. Read about her as you wait for your lunch in a clipping that she has on the wall. Or dinner when she is serving it, which is not always as I explain later in this review.

Her food is Colombian and she does not cotton to being thought of having a Mexican restaurant. She also is at the Beaverton Farmer's Market, serving up tamales that are doggon tasty and a fresh salsa that I just can't get enough of. She also has her food at New Seasons in Raleigh Hills

When she is working the market, the restaurant hours shrink--as she will explain if you ask, she just only has time to do only so much!

Eat anything that she has on the menu or get her to recommend something. She freely gives credit to friends and family that have contributed to her menu.

The decor inside is like her sign on the front of her place--handmade, bright and whimsical, which is the best that I can give you for the description of her food.

There are four very small tables, Gloria is the server, her Mom is in the back cooking and she frets that she just doesn't have the room, the equipment or the time to get out all that she wants to provide or that her very loyal customers want. And this very loyal customer doesn't care--I'll take what I can get when I can get it, and I am so glad to have Gloria in the neighborhood!

Went to Gloria's today for the first time. It was great! It is a hole in the wall--4 tables total inside with an additional 2 outside. All kinds of kitchy stuff adorns the walls, but it all fits. The menu is tiny, with about 8 items total. But the quality of the food is spectacular. The rice and beans were very flavorful, and the homemade flour tortillas were charred--you could definitely tell they were homemade. The salsa is some of the best salsa I've ever had--so incredibly fresh, with huge chunks of tomatoes, onions, jalapeno and cilantro, and the addition of corn gave it a new nuance of flavor.
The server came and chatted with us, asking where we'd heard about the restaurant. I'm pretty sure she was Gloria. She was very friendly.
This place is great; I will definitely go back.

Salvandoran is not Mexican so give this a try for something different! If you want wholesome food that is fresh, surprising and satisfying, even basics like rice and salsa this is the place. My picky husband said the salsa was one of the best he ever had, it was made with tomatos, corn, mango, cilatro, beans, onion. The quality of the food was up there with Pambeche. The ambience is very home spun and exhuberant, decorated with colorful paint by the owner and her daughter, nothing fancy but imaginative and welcoming. The owner came over and chatted with us because she didn't recognize us. The menu is small (about 7 entrees) because she has a small kitchen, so you may not find your favorite Salvadoran dish, but call first and ask. She also has specials on some days. This is a real find.
