Summary: The repairs were done timely and to my satisfaction, but the billing and customer service problems make it a place to avoid. Hesitant to explain bill, and blatantly disrespectful to customer. I work long hours and don't have the energy to put up with the hassle.

What they did right: They diagnosed my car well, and repaired it quickly; Friendly mechanics, very helpful and explained clearly their diagnosis of the problems

What they did wrong:

Unclear charges on bill: When the question of charges and costs came up, the management was very reluctant and defensive when asked to go into sufficient detail for my understanding. All I wanted was a clear listing of part costs and labor costs; what I got was a defensive explanation of how the shop was "doing me favors" by omitting certain charges, implying they could easily charge me more if they wanted. Since they gave me an up front estimate beforehand, this got on my nerves. If I incurred the costs, charge me; otherwise, I expect a clearly explained bill.

Inconvenient Payment Systems: On my way to pick up the car, I specifically asked for the methods of payment. I was told they took checks and credit cards. I specified that I would use checks. The manager said that this was fine, but that I "should make sure I had money in the account", as they would verify the check. A little rude, I think, but understandable. When I arrived, I was told they could not accept my check because they did not recognize my bank (a legitimate institution) and that their verification system had "crashed". I was also told that their credit/debit card systems were down. It was clear that they had no digital check verification system on site. And when I asked them to simply call their service to verbally verify the funds, they were unwilling to do this.

Hostility to Customer: They told me in so many words that they did not want me as a customer. Quote: "We usually don't do small repairs like yours. We only take them in slow periods. We do engine replacements". First of all, my charges were a few hundred dollars; I suppose this is "small". Secondly, in the phone book and on the internet, they advertise that they do all types of small and large repairs. That is why I called them in the first place. I think if my type of business is not wanted, they should change their advertising, and save us both alot of time and trouble. Lastly, I called them beforehand, explained what I wanted them to do, and they accepted the job. I don't expect to be served like a king as a customer; but I seldom witness a proprietor tell me outright they don't want my business.

PROS: Good Mechanics: Quick repair; accurate diagnosis
CONS: No Customer Service: disrespectful, defensive, and a general headache
