I can't believe that review that its a horrible place to eat because what? The building is older than most others? That is rediculous, the food is amazingly outstanding, is seems like it tasts better every time I eat there, which is at least 1-2 times a week. Best Chinese Restuarant in Corvallis by far.

My family eats at the Jade Garden from time and time, and uses it fairly often for take out. I don't normally write reviews, but I feel the "Do not recommend" review is so very unfair to the Jade Garden that I must respond.

The Jade Garden is a "Chinese cafe" ran by a Chinese-American family. It is not fancy or high-end; but it has huge menu and serves very good food at reasonable prices. The food is real Chinese food - not the over Americanized mush that used to be so common in so called Chinese restaurants. The food is flavorful, but not particularly spicy and probably appeals to most Americans. (Personally, I like my food a bit hotter than than most of the Jade Garden's food, but that is the result of having lived in Southeast Asia and I find most people do not like their food as spicy as I do.)

The atmosphere is informal and friendly and family like.

Corvallis has a lot of good Asian food for a small city. The Jade Garden is not the best, but it is much better than the average; and it is far less expensive than very best.

Thus, I highly recommend the Jade Garden.

I completely disagree with the other reviewers rating and remarks of Jade Garden. I've lived in Corvallis for two years now and have eaten at most Chinese restaurants in town. Recently my bf and I tried Jade Garden. There's been many times in the past I've passed by the alluring building on the street, from the outside it looks like a very nice restaurant, inside is a different story....

You immediately notice every detail of the building that is run down right from the entrance, once you walk in you are staring straight down a long prep hall that is exposed, not a pretty sight, curtains are very much needed. The night we ate at Jade, the floor in the prep hallway was filthy, there was a cart nearby full with dirty dishes cluttered. The counter is old, dirty and the glass areas inside are filthy and dusty when looking closer, outdated equipment is used.

We arrived approximately 8:30pm on a Saturday night, perhaps they had a very busy day, the entire building was showing it.
The interior is mainly outdated wood paneling and white painted boards which personally disgusts me and does not lend to the asian theme. There were dusty spiderweb strands high up on the ceiling. The white table cloths on the tables have stains underneath the protective acrylic. There is a massive long water stain along the cheap monotone thin carpet in the middle of the building- from roof leakage it seems. They should upgrade with a heavier plush pattern carpet so crumbs do not stand out so much.

Our waitress was prompt with service, but seemed rushed and agitated towards the end, she layed down our dishes hard on the table. I believe setting down food should be done as quiet as possible. Sweet&Sour Pork with pork fried rice, Szechuan beef and a Spicy noodle dish was ordered. The pork was very, very fatty. The beef was average overall, though was not served very hot. The spicy Noodle dish, cannot remember name was very good.

I couldnt take my eyes off the carpet of the restaurant, it was filthy and cluttered EVERYWHERE with debris and dirt, the employees seemed to only have a broom to clean their carpet with, vacuums are very badly needed, if not, then a rechargable portable automatic sweep machine.

For a restaurant that tries to be well themed, they do have beautiful decoration and hanging Chinese lanterns..you're forced to submit to hearing Pop-rock radio playing. Traditional and different styles of Chinese music playing would be far greater for this restaurant, and unique.

I did not see the bathrooms, they say you can tell how much employees take care of food handling and sanitation by the looks of their bathroom. I have a quite negative opinion from that night and don't particularly plan on eating there again. I really hope they fix these details, do a thorough cleaning.
