Ratings_icons Frank Warrens Auto Service -Buyer Beware

My 79 year old mother took her Beetle to Warren's for catalytic converter replacement. They quoted her $900, and that didn't include the sensor replacement. I told her to take it elsewhere. She did and the whole thing (with sensor) cost $265. These people should be ashamed of their selves. They gave me the standard song and dance about using "better parts" and "heavy duty" but weren't using original equipment. If you're still going to give these people business, get three prices and be prepared for the sales pitch.

Frank Warren's is located just off NW Burnside behind the Stadium Fred Meyer. Its open Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm. The owner is always on the premises. The receptionist is perky and the mechanics are efficient and pleasant. This station is a fixture in the West Hills community and has a solid reputation. Prices are competitive. They will pick up and deliver clients if need be. Work is finished when promised.

PROS: Owner is always on the premises.
CONS: Not open on Saturdays.

Ratings_icons Terrific!

After major disasters at Entler's, I went to Frank Warren's. Number one service. Reasonable prices. No complaints at all.

Pros: Convient NW Portland location

Cons: Only open until 5:30pm.

Ratings_icons Not Recommended

The windshield wiper switch on my car broke. I brought it into Warrens Auto because it was convenient and well recommended on citysearch. They quoted me replacement was $100 parts + $150 labour.

After looking into it myself, I realized you could replace the part using just a screwdriver, whole thing just takes 10 minutes. They refused to revise their labour estimate even after I explained this.

Eventually I just purchased a replacement part on ebay for $20 and did it myself.

Oh, and they said my CV boot was kinked up, and needed to be stretched out and reinstalled. I gave them the goahead, and they uninstalled the CV boot, were unable to unkink it, and reinstalled the CV kinked boot. They charged me for this.

Pros: Less than 10 minutes walk from the Max

Cons: Questionable pricing and repair expertise

Ratings_icons Honest, competent service at a fair price.

koitimbre

I've had good experiences taking several of my cars to Frank Warren's in the last two years. Carl and the other mechanics are highly competent and friendly, and the prices are reasonable (I've never felt as though I were being taken advantage of, in contrast to some other downtown repair facilities). The only reason I am not giving the highest recommendation is that I've often had to wait long periods to get my cars back, sometimes for weeks at a time, even when the repairs were fairly straightforward. I'm willing to wait for these periods of time, however, because it is so hard to find an honest mechanic these days. Overall, it's a very solid, honest business.

Pros: competent mechanics, honest and friendly treatment

Cons: long repair completion times

Ratings_icons Better than the dealership...

Of course you will have to pay for them to "diagnose" the computer codes. It's called a labor charge. Duh. Beaverton Nissan wanted to chage almost $500 more and take twice as long in the estimate as Frank Warrens. I'd recommend them to anyone that wants it done right without having to shell out the dealership bucks.

Ratings_icons Would not go back

haleyvarley

I will not go back to Frank Warrens. This place wanted to charge me roughly $360 to fix 3 things. I can find the parts at an auto parts store for under $50 and learn how to do it on the internet myself! They did not tell me about this initially, but they charged $96to diagnose the problem. If that is not enough that repair wouldn't even cover why my check engine light is on. I would in fact have to pay another $85 to have them diagnose that problem, let alone the cost to actually fix it. Frank Warrens is a scam. I feel totally ripped off and will never ever go back.

Pros: Close to home

Cons: Expensive, Not timely at all, Rip off

Ratings_icons Frank Warren's: Knowledgeable and Reliable

drroal

I highly recommend this automotive repair shop. I just moved to Portland and I was in search of a reliable place to get my car fixed. Frank Warren's took care of me and my care in a timely fashion for a very reasonable price. I really appreciated the time they took to explain to me what was wrong and the options to fix the problem. Further they were sensitive to my time constraints. I really appreciated all that they did for me. I will, with out a doubt, return for regular maintenance and any unforeseeable problems with my car.

Pros: Price, Service, Time

Heidi and Frank run the best garage in Portland. I currently live in Seattle and still return to this place when I have a need. They have been trustworthy, prompt, and fair.
Heidi and Frank and been able to give advice over the phone and have always been a pleasure to deal with. If you are looking for a garage where you DON'T feel like you are being ripped off, this is the one.

Pros: People, Talent

Cons: None
