I like the small size, and the staff remember me and are friendly and know Japanese ingredients. They have thin slice beef and pork, which I use for sukiyaki and teriyaki skewers.

This market has been around for decades. They have a nice assortment of Asian food items, primarily Japanese. The deli in the back has sushi grade fish for making your own rolls at home. You can find kitchen items and random other goods, like Japanese vegetable seeds for growing in your garden.

We enjoy shopping at Anzen to stock up on our favorite Japanese foods. They carry fresh Ota tofu, furukake, the instant miso soup that we like, big containers of Koala Bears for the kids, thin-sliced pork and sushi-grade cuts of fish. My daughter loves tobiko and fish cakes and they carry those. I also like their selection of dishes, containers and origami paper. The staff is helpful.

Anzen's is the place I've been going to since my mom started going there back in the 70's. I go here because it's close and they have what I need -- kind of like the 7-11 of japanese stores compared to Uwajimaya in Beaverton. They always ask about my "mama-san" and I appreciate that they remember me.

...now that Uwajimaya has opened in Beaverton, we don't go here anymore. It's in a really tiny space, and it's kind of old. It used to be the only place we could go for Japanese food products, and if you live really close it's probably better to go here than to make the drive to Uwajimaya. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother - it has a small selection, and it's hard to maneuver around in.
