We had remodeled our kitchen about 15 years ago and so it was time for an update. We started out thinking about counter tops and went to the big box home stores to see what was available. We heard some people didn't get the best work from the contractors available through those stores. Our vision of what we wanted expanded to include some new appliances and because the scope of the job would be more involved, we decided to look for an alternative. We found Olson & Jones and our project manager Frank Bradley and have been very pleased with their work and especially appreciated Frank's efforts in moving the job forward efficiently and on time. His recommendations for subcontractors were the best. The granite contractor did an outstanding job as did the painter. We are very happy with our updated kitchen and would highly recommend Olson & Jones.

While prepping for a paint job in the fall of 2008, our painter discovered exterior dry-rot around a window, plus some deck railing that needed repair. We had suspected such damage for sometime but always "looked the other way." Further examination revealed even more significant moisture damage to the tops of the major beams supporting the house. We were now talking about the integrity of the house (and our safety), so we decided to be cautious and hire professionals with experience in this sort of matter.

We contacted Olson & Jones based on a recommendation, and project manager Frank Bradley met with us to review the damage and possible options for repairs. Frank visited us on several occasions while working up solutions. He was always on time and extremely courteous. He applied his excellent building knowledge and problem-solving skills to work up several work estimates, and we appreciated that he consulted his colleagues for advice when he wanted a "second opinion". Ultimately he presented three solutions that were both sound from an engineering standpoint and cognizant of our budget, ranging from about $18,000 to $22,000.

The bid was initially higher than we thought it should be, but Frank broke out his estimate in exacting detail, and when he walked us through the work involved, the numbers seemed reasonable and made sense. Given his professionalism, responsiveness and concern for our needs, and low-pressure manner, we chose to go with Olson & Jones.

From the get-go, Frank kept us informed almost daily as to what to expect and what the job status was. He and his crew were extremely conscientious and respectful of our property. You know how it can be, having strangers in and out of your house and on the premises. Well, these guys were great. They know their stuff, they are fast at what they do, and they do it with exacting attention to detail, and very high-quality work. Both the laborers and the office staff listened attentively to our concerns and responded promptly to our questions throughout the process.

Ultimately, and pleasantly for us, the final bill came in quite a bit under budget. We felt that the work that was done, while not the cheapest, was very fair and reasonable, especially given the high quality of the work. It's like the old saw goes, you get what you pay for. Olson & Jones worked to save us money where possible, without compromising the repairs or our safety or convenience.

We would definitely use them again for any construction projects that might come up, and I am thrilled to recommend them for any home construction need. It is a rare and wonderful treat to have such a professional construction company here in town. Plus, we sleep in peace knowing the house is now in sound condition!

In 2004, just a year after we moved into our Milwaukie home, we underwent a four month remodel/addition. We tore down the smaller one-story addition and added a larger 2-story kitchen/ soon-to-be guest room upstairs. These guys - and especially Gib Barthelemy and Jeff Jones were top-notch! It truly is my dream kitchen and they helped to make it OUR home. High recommendation.
