Any bike shop needs to have the basics: knowledgeable staff, good mechanics, and good product. What sets CyclePath above the rest is their quick attention to my cycling problem, making me a priority, and taking the time to talk to me

I like to go int there and look at bikes but the two owners, Josh and Bill, are arrogant bike snobs. Nonetheless, good service and a great place to go if you are new to high-end bikes.

Bill gave me this goofy thesis about Pacific Rim

I drove all the way down to Cycle Path from Seattle to purchase a Pivot Mach 4 (completely sold out in WA). My buying experience was great. I was encouraged to take the bike out for a "real" test ride as opposed to just riding around in the parking lot or around the block. I wanted a few components swapped out and they did that on the spot with no problems and we took the extra time needed to dial in the fit and adjust suspension for to my liking. I used to race XC in college but have been out of the tech stuff for almost 7 years now, so I had a ton of questions all of which were answered to a level that showed these guys knew what they were talking about. They're a cool bunch, I like bike shops that don't mind letting you watch them work on your bike which was the case here. I got to ask more questions while they were setting the bike up. Added bonus, it was a hot day and my pug was going to overheat in the car, so they let me bring her inside and hang out while I went test riding bikes. I will be visiting here whenever I come to Portland from now on.

Pros: Awesome service and attention

Cons: Far away from Seattle

As many reviews have noted, Cyclepath tends to be a high end shop where many of the bikes will cost more than your car. But they cater to every price point. I have had extensive work done on an older road bike (now a commuter) and was supplied with replacement parts that were very price appropriate for the job. I have also purchased a bike at what appears to be the lower end of what they stock but still received a ton of attention.

Pros: very knowledgeable

Cons: can be intimidating with all the high end toys

Cyclepath is a shop I have been going to for several years. why? because they have great customer service. they have always been friendly and un-pretentious. their mechanical skills surpass those of any other shop I have been to. They take the time to be VERY thorough with my bikes and treat em as if they were their own. They listen to my concerns and have never talked down to me. I have seen this same friendly interaction with all the other customers while I have been in the shop. It just goes to show that people who have had negative experiences are usually those that post comments, so that is why I decided to post a review.
I feel I know the guys pretty well, and while its never good biz practice to exchange negative words with a prospective customer I know they are not stuck-up or un-friendly. We've all had to deal with demanding customers that tread on our good nature at some point. Im placing my bet on this scenario.

Pros: incredible shop and inventory. its a candy store for the bike enthusiest!

The previous two reviews are clearly the same person looking to spread hatred and fuel a grudge. Stop by this incredible shop and check it out for yourself. The staff is friendly, helpful and courteous and the place is stocked with an incredible assortment of beautiful frames, parts, built bikes and accessories.

Pros: Custom Bike Love!!!

Cons: Doesn't cater to the low end of the bicycle world, but will help in a pinch!

I can't believe the absolute snobbery, arrogance and attitude in this place. I have never in my 35 years of cycling encountered such a crappy entitled attitude in a bike shop as I did in cyclepath. Sadly this is my neighborhood shop and by what they stock it would have been right up my alley, but I'll happily be spending my money elsewhere. I lived in NYC for 9 years and never encountered this kind of dismissive & pompous service even once. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this shop.

I went to this shop several months ago and couldn't believe I was still in Portland "Americas Best Cycling City" the attitude in there was truly appalling and insulting. I always believe in giving people a second chance, but cyclepath's second chance led me straight to the door. I was baffled at how the people working there could be so evasive, dismissive and arrogant. Had they proven me wrong I would have happily spent my money in there, but being made to feel like a lesser person doesn't earn my business. It wasn't until my friend just told about his similar encounter here that I decided to write this review. I urge my fellow Portland cyclists to reconsider supporting this shop and it's attitude in this city. I'm happy to see others agree as well.

Pros: not a single thing

Cons: that this shop is still open

I have never received service like this, the owner of the shop was awesome, one of those serious bike guys, PASSIONATE, he told me a few things i didn't know about my own maverick. (they don't even sell them) i had taken my bike to 4 different bike gallery locations (the maverick dealer) and river city , spent $95 and been without my bike for 3 weeks (of summer) just trying to get my derailleur working properly. not to mention being treated like a Palestinian in Israel at the latter shop. this guy throws it up in the stand, explains the problem, fixes it in about 3 minutes and sends me out on a test ride. done! i came back super stoked and he charged me nothing, $0, zilch. i will be back time and time again. probably not the place to buy a hybrid (maybe they do them but it didnt look like it) but if you like the nice stuff, this place kicks the competition out in the rain. i hope they read this, you guys rock!

Pros: great service, really nice bikes

Cons: not a family shop, no kids bikes or recumbents

As a long time customer and friend of Cyclepath, I had to write this after reading the previous review.

This is a phenomenal shop that will cater to your every bicycle whim. They specialize in custom bikes - most notably Moots - and stock a wide variety of frames and parts from small, high-quality manufacturers.

Yes, like most folks in the bike industry they are over-worked and underpaid and are in it for the love and not the money (I know it's shocking but margins are actually lower on high-end products!) And so yes, they might not respond so well to someone who's never been in the shop before asking to be fit for free so that he knows which bike to buy on Ebay!!! Imagine that! Like many markets, the number one competitor that independent bike shops face these days is the internet. Talking about Ebay in any bike shop in any town anywhere will result in an instant loss of respect from any shop employee, guaranteed. Asking a shop employee that you have no previous relationship with or loyalty to, to fit you on their in-stock bike so that you can get it on line - that's absurd!

All I can say is disregard the negative review. Stop by and talk with the guys at Cyclepath and get your mind blown by the coolest collection of bike stuff in town. In my experience they are helpful, friendly, bend-over backwards to meet your every bicycle need guys. Just don't bring up Ebay, alright?

Pros: Custom, top quality product and mechanics, great service

Cons: a shop can't be everything to everone - this one's not for beginners

I've come across snotty waiters in posh restaurants, but July 31 2007 was the first time I ever encountered a snotty bike store salesman. My friend and I dropped by the new up-market yuppie bike store Cyclepath in the new gentrification zone around NE MLK and Russell. I said I was looking at frames on eBay, and asked if I could check a bike for size, and that I would buy components at the store (in other words, I wasn't asking for something for nothing, and I was being honest). There's nothing wrong with selling expensive bikes, but the attitude of the staff was "we don't need people like you". My friend is a local who really does spend money on components, shoes, etc. but he won't go there again, even for a new tire tube. This place is so un-Portland .
