The chips and fresh salsa are wonderful!! The staff is friendly and happy to serve you. A combo platter is a lot of food for a low price and filling. The drinks are plentiful and tasty.

I love this place, the food is great, the cocktails and the service couldn't be better. Love Maya pork steak and the Shrimp Tacos.
Best Mexican food in The City, no doubt about it!

We've been going there for 17 years - 99% always a pleasant time and great food. Their staff is always friendly and accommodating, especially to kids. Sometimes crowded and can be slow, but more often than not just a great place to eat.

OUR FAVE!!! This is the BEST MEXICAN FOOD to be found in Beaverton, possibly the Grtr Metro Area!
[Those who have experienced long waits, etc. probably went on Cinco de Mayo, when the place was swamped! (We have never had any problems except that nite, & we completely understood--they had a waiting list 30-40 minutes long.)]
They have wonderful options, especially "Build Your Own Burrito"--huge (too much for one meal) & just the way you want it, coz you order everything that is in it & on top of it.
We highly recommend this place to anyone who likes Mexican food.

Since me and my gf work in the restaurant bussiness, we like to try new restaurants all the time, its our passion. La Fogata has been our favorite spot for a while now. We love the interior. The good food and the attentive service make the whole experience in LF wonderful. They have the best Mexican food (we are hard to impress). We recommend this place either for bussiness meetings, a date or special occasions.Biggest outside seating in town. This restaurant is complete. Congruatulations to the Owners, you are doing a really good job. Try the Birria de Chivo and The Cielo Mar y Tierra with a BombRita a 16oz blended Margarita with a 4oz Coronita bottle INSIDE!!! REFRESHING!!!

Eat here on a regular basis, at least once a week. I think the people working there are professional and the food is wonderfull. I think it is far better than any of it's local competition.

Looks like nobody but family of the owners gets decent service at this dump. On the recommendation of family friends we came to this poor excuse for a restaurant. It took over an hour to get our food, when it arrived it was cold and overcooked. Our waitress was kind but she could do nothing to alleviate our complaints and when asked to speak with her manager, she informed us he had already gone home. Called back the next day to speak with the manager and inform him of our poor experience and he was completely dismissive of our complaints, told us we had nothing to talk about. Needless to say, would not return to this place if my life depended on it.

I started a city search account specifically to facilitate writing a review on La Fogata, literally, the worst Mexican restaurant on the planet. 45 minutes to get our drinks, hour and a half plus to get our food. When we complained the food was cold and had been overcooked and asked to speak with the manager, the coward Bennie told his waitstaff to tell us he had left and refused to speak with us. He than accused us of being desperate and trying to take advantage of the restaurant because of the economy. Whatever you do, do not waste your money on this strip mall dump. The worst restaurant experience of my entire life, and I have dined on 6 continents, so that's saying something.

My wife and I moved from California a few years ago and we are always in search of authentic mexican food. This place is one we continue to go back to. Great food, large portions. We just went and shared a La fogata nacho we got the small and didn't finish all of it. I am a huge fan of salsa and I love there's also good Guacamole, Some places have that fake neon green Guacamole. Not here Its fresh. Over all Highly recommend if you are looking for a new favorite.

We have tried many Mexican restaurants in Beaverton and Hillsboro...La Fogata is the one we keep coming back to. Huge menu, great prices and the food is AMAZING. Don't let the fact that it's in a strip mall and doesn't have all the bells and whistles on the outside (like Pepita's) fool you, it's the best food you'll find. Try chicken or shrimp poblano (my favorite) or the camarones al mojo de ajo (my husband's favorite)!

My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner at La Fogata. It is so hard to find good Mexican food. La Fogata is located in a strip mall but don't judge it by its location. We went on a Saturday evening and were seated promptly. Our server brought us our menus and took our drink orders immediately. We were brought chips and salsa that were both home made. My wifes margarita was served in a huge goblet. I had a Dos Equis, on tap. Our food arrived surprisingly quickly for a busy night. This is usually a sign that a microwave is in use in the kitchen. Not the story at La Fogata. We each ordered combination plates. My wife had a taco and tostada. I had a chimichanga, relleno and taco. The food was wonderful. Fresh tasting. Good sized portions but not so much that any was wasted. I was especially thrilled that my plate had a large serving of both sour cream and guacamole, ordinarily you get a small dollop of one or the other and get charged for guacamole. We both ordered the shredded beef in our meals. It was very moist and flavorful. Our entire dinner totaled less then $33. The service was friendly. Decor was pleasant. Bathrooms were clean. If quality food is what you want along with good service and nice atmosphere La Fogata is the place to go.

I've ordered a lot of different items on the menu at La Fogata. My favs are the beef enchiladas, nachos, and I love love love the chicken fajita burrito. Super yummy! Everytime the food arrives at the table I'm amazed at how great it is. Its like the chef is making it for him/her self its so good....always a lot of cheese and full of meat etc. They don't skimp here.
The margaritas are another story....they are HORRIBLE. I've rarely met a margarita I didn't like but these are watery and not good at all.

The good -- La Fogata has good food, and the people who work there are friendly. We came in often enough that they got to know us, and almost all of them seemed happy to see us. Food-wise, the chimis are great, the burritos are tasty, the mole enchiladas are good. And the prices are reasonable (except for the margaritas, but that's true of any restaurant these days). Other than Lupe's Escape in Aloha, it was our favorite.

The bad -- when my kids were small, we got into the habit of doing take-out, and kept doing that once they got bigger. Over time, however, we started having errors on our order on a more frequent basis. We'd ask for an enchilada, we'd get a quesadilla. We'd ask for cheese enchiladas with mole sauce, we'd get a chicken enchilada without mole. I got tired of getting home with food, only to find out someone's order was incorrect or even missing, and have to drive back to the restaurant. It got to the point where, before leaving the restaurant, I had to open each box and try to make sure everything was correct.

To make matters worse, they started charging for chips and salsa with takeout meals, even though that's free if you eat in. I checked with five other local Mexican restaurants, and none charges for chips and salsa when you order takeout. I could understand if we were just ordering chips, but when we spend $25 for our family meal, it seems stingy.

In June, I wrote a letter to the owner, Rafael Zavaleda, expressing my frustration with these situations. Silly me, I figured any smart business owner would want to keep his customers happy and we'd hear something, but I got no response.

So, after seven years as a customer at La Fogata, we have moved on to other Mexican restaurants.

The food and the service can be a little inconsistant, but overall, very good food. The advantage here for us, is it is around the corner. If you are looking for "authentic" Mexican food in Beav in the hood, there are some food trucks that are wonderful. If you are looking for good, em, SoCal Mexi food, this is quite nice. Rice and especially the beans are very good, the house salsa, most times is very good, though a little less vinager and more real citrus, but I am being picky--bless 'em they use cilantro at least. The combos are their high spot--hence my quiveling about the "real" factor. The service is good and the management has been good--though the last time we were in there were whispered problems in a marriage which may effect the future of the good times that we have had in the past--which I hope were unfounded.

3.5, good very reasonable, nice tile tables & decor. Salsa lacked fresh cilantro or onions - it was canned or bottled w/ a few too large chucks of tomato thrown. Good menu selection. I had a beef taco & tamale combo plate. Tamale meat & around edges dry... Over microwaved??? Taco meat yummy & a big taco - again.... wheres my pico de gallo? I had to order sour creme and guac on the side...

Black beans were fresh and tasty.

la fogata is in a strip mall, but there's a lively neighborhood-bar feel to the restaurant as well. they also have an outdoor seating area, which is nice. their menu selections are decently priced - i had the enchiladas suizas from the lunch menu, they were $6.95. shmackyrelish had combo #9, a ground beef taco and a tamale. i noticed that their flour tortillas are not made in-house, but on the other hand - they take the entertainment book! no pork carnitas on the menu, which is always a negative for me. the chips were served hot, but the salsa had that canned tomato taste, and very little cilantro or spicing. all in all, okay but not great.

The service was EXTREMELY terriable, we were seated given 1 basket of chips and salsa along with our drinks/water. After 15-20 minutes chips were gone no refills on chips/salsa, drinks or water. Other customers came 10 minutes after us, recieved theire food before us and was given refills on chips/salsa and water. After 30 minutes waiting, staff continued to pass our table, never asked if we needed anything. Waitstaff continued to fix other orders. After being there for 45 minutes no food and bad customer service, we decided to leave and this is when the waitstaff wanted to ask what was the problem, our responce to the waitstaff was that theire service was NOT EXCEPTABLE and that people that came in after us were served before us. There were no appologies given either!!!

This was a completely disappointing meal in almost every way. We were served chips but no salsa (eventually the salsa came after we asked for it). The margaritas were horrid (and expensive) -- a huge goblet of mostly slushy ice with the barest hint of a margarita flavor. They have a very large menu (with an interesting-looking, separate vegetarian menu), but the food was bland, the mole sauce was uninteresting and very sparse. The flour tortilla that came with the meal was so bad I actually spit out the bite I took. My 5-year old seemed to be happy with the meal, though. We'll keep searching for decent Mexican food in the Beaverton area.

We were lured by all the positive reviews, but found La Fogata forgettable. The food lacked the abundance of flavors found in good Mexican. The chicken was unsalted even. The menu was extensive, but after a poor showing on a burrito and pollo asada, we'll not chance the more exotic fare. Service was friendly, but slow. Perhaps we just caught them on a bad night.

This place truly blew me away. When I walked in the door I was skeptical of how the overall experience would be after surveying the very "strip mall"-esque decor. However the attentive and quiet service coupled with the delicious masterpieces from the kitchen will turn me into a regular.

The portions were huge and all the flavors were in proper proportion. The chips were plentiful and still hot and the salsa was mild enough not to require two gallons of water. Even such a simple item as deep-fried ice cream was notable in its quality. This is truly a diamond in the rough for Westside diners.

Although I'm not sure how authentically Mexican the food is, it's VERY good, and reasonably priced. We have yet to have tried anything bad from the menu, and for the most part, the service is great. I wish I could remember the name of a certain waiter who's been there since it opened, but he's the BEST! As noted in another review, the margaritas are spendy, and aren't worth the price, in my opinion. One other thing that bothers me... the seats in the booths are terribly uncomfortable. But I'll put up with a sore butt in exchange for the great food.

The staff were friendly and service was good. The food quality was good and ingredients were fresh. I don't think this restaurant would be considered an authentic Mexican restaurant, but I think it's a good combination between the Mexican and American. I had the Fogata Burritos with steak meat--not the best burrito I've had, but good. A bit pricy at $8.95, but not out of line. The atmosphere was quite nice with many ornaments.

Pros: Friendly service, Fresh ingredients, Nice atmosphere

Cons: None

Great selections and tasty food. Ask for the hot salsa with your chips. The margarita's are $8 each. Not at all worth it. You're better off with a Dos Equis or Pacifico, but the food is very good.
