Terrible service!!Food?!We couldn't order food because the bartender(jerk!)said that they were not a restaurant and that our order would take FOREVER ,and also that their kitchen wasn't set up for a order of 4 burgers, that's right, 4

The kind of place where you never know what will be waiting for you on the other side of the door. Great bar! Really comfortable with cheap stiff drinks, this bar has been locally owned for forty years. Cheers!
P. S. Don't get it confused

A place where everyone goes because everyone else goes, and all are afraid to say that it sucks ass.

Well, it's a nice "dive bar." They have cheap food, cheap drinks, and the bartenders always serve you, even if you are drunk! I am not gonna lie!! I've heard it's very hard to get "86'ed" from this bar. They havew $6.00 PBR pitchers and 25 cent pool!!! I recommend this bar very highly except for the night that they have the live band becuase those suck!! If they have a live band, chances are, it's going to be bad. If you are a band trying out, might want to contact them! But on a lighter note, it's a great bar!! You can get trashed and they won't kick you out!!

A group of my friends and I ate at this place last Saturday night, when we arrived at Screen Door across the street and decided we didn't want to wait the hour plus for a table. I guess the fact that Matador was half empty at 7:00 on a Saturday night should have been our first clue. My house margarita tasted like it was poured right out of a mixer bottle (which was very disappointing at a "Tequila" bar) and my friend's mohito was just plain bad. Our food was even worse. I ordered the baby-back ribs and the spices were so incredibly hot I could barely eat them. One of my friend's enchiladas were so bathed in crap you could barely find or taste the actual enchiladas. Very disappointing! We won??t be back. (But the restaurant itself is very cool!)

Watch out for the big rascally "cook". I don't know what he did or what went wrong, but he had a bad attitude from the start, and the sandwiches we had made us all terribly sick that night through the whole next day. It's very dirty in there. Go for the beer and cheap drinks, but leave when it's time to eat something!!!

Cons: I don't like spending the night over the toilet

In a city with mostly average mexican food, you
will enjoy this food. ( The chicken tacos are
pretty average though)

Went there on Sunday with two friends. A waitress walked by use three times adn never once even acknowledged us. Had to go ask for menus. The food is over priced for quality/quantites. I had the burger which was fine, just very bland. My friend had the Pozole, which was the WORST i have ever had. It had A LOT of cabbage in it and tasted like cabbage water. Literally, warm cabbage water. The spinach salad, which cost $7, was overpriced and unremarkable. On the upside the decor is nice, fancy and the salsa was good. In today's economy, i expect restaurant food to be palatable and at the least, good service. I hope that the folks at Matador pick it up a bit in both catagories and drop the attitude.

I love this bar. I got to know it very well when i lived upstairs from it for a year. Rebeca the blond glamazon bar tender makes ridiculously fierce creative cocktails called "fuzzy unicorns" that always get me feeling good. The lovely door girl Rose is always on top of keeping Burnside burnouts out of the bar and looking good doing it. Casey, Lara, Amanda and Rob are equally fabulous to get drunk by. The food is very classic bar food, super cheap, terrible for you and oh so tasty. My favorite is the grilled cheese. The drinks are unthinkably well priced and generously poured. Pitchers of PBR are $5 and well drinks are I think $3.50. I think i have spent around $90 in their awesome old fashion photo booth with friends over the last two years. The D.J.s are always really good, there is a different theme every night. This is the best place to have a party, I've had my birthday here the last two years and will continue to forever. There isn't really a dance floor but random dance parties often happen in front of the D.J booth when favorite songs are played.
I will always love this bar.
I am very sad to not live upstairs anymore but my liver may be happier. I think I'll go tonight. You should too!

Pros: Cheap strong drinks, Hot staff, Great music, Good times

Cons: Hangovers

So you don't like smoke filled bars, occassionally questionable patrons and SUPER loud music? Then take your yuppy loving self somewhere else. For rock and roll, super stiff drinks and a real Portland experience, you can't get any better than the dor. Sorry if your shoes are a little sticky and your clothes smell like an ashtray when you leave sweetie, but you can get cosmos at the Brazen Bean instead.

Cons: Little loud and smokey for some

Went here to drink and play pool because of other good reviews. The pool tables were seriously off level, the cues were bent and broken, and the only thing they had on tap was PBR. Won't go back

Don't be put off by the rough looking characters at the bar, the matador is a great place to go have a PBR with your buddies, listen to rock and roll, and lay low if you're running from the cops.

Yeah service could've been better, but it is a crowded bar especially on the weekends. How can you not love 25 cent pool!?! Pitchers of PBR are super cheap and the jukebox has a great selection. Did i forget to mention they have super hot bartenders??? Defenitley a bar to hang out at for the Portland hotties.

a very cool dark brooding dungeon to hang out and play pool. the drinks were great, the food needed to be served with tablets of Tums, eclectic mixture of subhumans. I love this place, however the bartender ignored and/or treated myself and my friends (yes, all females) negatively because perhaps we looked too clean. very strange. still a cool hangout though, because I'd rather pool there than at rock bottom, or some other yup/frat establishment.
