We ate at Sayler's last night and our service was great. We waited maybe 20 minutes but Teri our server was on the ball and she got right down to business. The atmosphere is totally 70's but it's fun and funky that way. Don't expect the hip "metrosexual and MBA toting yuppy" set here, this is a steakhouse from the time of steak houses. The cowd is mixed if slightly tilted to the 50+ set.
The food: Overall the food was good. We enjoyed the prime rib, filet and ribeye. Meat was tender and had some flavor. The relish tray was very cool and we ordered a heap of onion rings. (First timers might want only a half order.) This is an honest meat and potatoes joint, not a lot of flash or glitz. If you looking for that skip Sayler's.
The service: We had great service from a waitress who knew her menu and knew how to please customer's with just the right amount of attention. Our wait was very reasonable for 6pm on Friday night at 20 minutes although it did pick up considerably after we arrived. (Hint: go earlier for faster seating)
Overall: A very good place to enjoy an piece of meat and potatoes type of dinner. Not flashy but comfortable enough to have a meal and good conversation. The drinks from the bar are good sized and well made, a rarity in Portland. I wouldn't expect Haute Cuisine, but you can expect a decent meal at a good value.
Pros: Drinks, value, service
Cons: parking, no phone reservations
