Our son went to Village Montessori for 3 years and I think we couldn't have found a better school for him. I will be forever grateful to Mrs. Doris for guiding our son onto a path of lifelong independent joyful learning. His new school teachers have mentioned what an incredible independent learner he is. Mrs Doris's job is her passion and it shows. The school offers a nurturing and SAFE environment, the kids have fun and great friends are made. I am impressed with Mrs Doris's creativity and how professional and playful she brings the Montessori style of learning across to the children. If you are looking to get your child into an excellent school all around, you found it with Montessori Village. Thank you, Mrs. Doris!

Village Montessori is a rare find, a school with the nurturing, supportive and attentive learning environment inherent in a small school, but with high quality of leadership in fostering excellence in the necessary preparations for elementary school. Parents can be certain that their child is being supported both emotionally and academically. Our son has attended Village Montessori for the past year and we have been very pleased with his development and with his enthusiasm for learning. He loves it there and we love the peace of mind we derive from knowing he is well cared for in every way.

This little school is great! Of course there are the age-appropriate academics, as well as structured and unstructured play. Even more important are the opportunities for the children to learn "how to do" and "how to learn". Our son wants to hear the steps and then do it for himself, which the is kind of attitude toward learning he will need his whole life.

As for the cryptic negative comments, I can only say that Doris and her staff are caring, attentive, diligent, and patient with the children, and that we have a great deal of trust in them.

We're so thankful for Village Montessori. Miss Doris has created a wonderful environment where the children are encouraged to explore the world around them, to learn, and to have fun. Village Montessori is a lovely school - it is bright, warm, and filled with a wide variety of terrific learning tools and materials. The back yard play area and garden encourage creativity and discovery and the classroom is a dream ?? designed to support intellectual and social growth. Our daughter looks forward to going to school each day. She takes great pride in her work and loves her classmates and teachers. She has learned so much in the year that she has been with Village Montessori. My husband and I are often surprised by some new skill or bit of knowledge that she has acquired at school ?? from stitching a lovely pillow, to most recently working on her numbers to 100 and tying a shoe lace, which is big stuff for a little one. Our daughter is happy and so are we. Thank you Miss Doris.

I'm saddened (but not suprised) that you still won't own up to any responsibility. You smeared your own name when you failed to protect our daughter. Good luck with living up to your own policies Doris B.

Our daughter has been attending Village Montessori for almost a year now and we are extremely happy with the school. "Miss" Doris has created such a calm, loving and comfortable learning environment in a superb house like setting. The school is so airy and light with big windows overlooking the great garden. I was looking for a school where my daughter would receive excellent tutoring and where I could transition back into the work force, feeling comfortable leaving her all day. I knew going back after being a stay-at-home mother was going to be very tough for both myself and my daughter. However the moment I walked into Village Montessori, I knew this was the school for us. My daughter, who on previous pre-school tours would cling to my leg looking extremely scared, felt so comfortable that she left me fairly quickly to check out the great learning materials, animals and other children. My instincts were correct, our daughter has been developing in leaps and bounds and loves going to school and I feel very content at work knowing she is in such good hands. "Miss" Doris has been very open, flexible and approachable on any issues and has certainly lived up to our high expectations.

I am deeply saddened ( but not surprised) by your attempt to smear our good reputation. But what you are describing is not Village Montessori, and certainly not Miss Doris.
I wish you well Mr. & Mrs. Lois B.

My daughter, who is now graduating second grade, attended Village Montessori from age 4-6. She entered first grade well above the other kids academically. Miss Doris fostered my daughter's individual abilities and spirit in a way that previous preschool teachers could not. I am thrilled to enroll my son this coming fall.

Excellent pre-school for my daughter who has thrived in this lovely montissori setting since age 2 1/5.
She still attends two afternoons a week after her kindergarten in the local public school and asks to
go even more. Wonderful summer program as well.

Village Montessori is a beautiful school where children thrive under the talented guidance of Ms. Doris Baird. A dedicated follower of traditional Montessori practices, "Miss Doris" is a well trained professional. She has meticulously created an environment for the children that we appreciate very much. The school is filled with natural light and wood and there are many windows viewing their "park", the play yard and garden that is as thoughtfully designed as the school. The classrooms are stocked with enriching materials that are in excellent condition and the school itself is always clean and fresh. It feels warm and secure like home with an unending amount of things to discover and master. We researched and visited many good school options in Lake Oswego. We felt we had found a gem when we became acquainted with Doris Baird and then toured the unique private school she founded. Our son, who is now in his second year, loves going to school. He has experienced positive growth and development with his social skills, has gained emotional maturity, self-confidence and esteem and has had intellectual achievements. But mostly, and more importantly, he has had a lot of fun and has made nice friends. Every morning, it is a very good feeling bringing him to a place where we know he will be treated lovingly, respectfully, and be offered plenty of constructive and healthy stimulation. We have been very pleased with our experience with Village Montessori and Ms. Doris and grow in our appreciation of the value of our son's experience there as time goes on.

We always wanted a safe and secure place for our children to spend their pre-school years. At Village Montessori, we found just that. Miss Doris (Doris Baird) has provided a peaceful, learning environment that permits each child to have their own pace for development. Our oldest daughter preferred a more academic approach while our youngest daughter enjoyed the practical life skill afforded by the school. The girls thrived in a such a way that we decided they should stay at Village Montessori with Doris through their kindergarten year. As each in turn entered traditional elementary school, they did so with confidence and a love for learning that we felt was directly related to their experience with the Montessori method of learning -- not to mention, their love for Miss Doris!

I sought out Village Montessori School from an article about it's Teacher and Founder (Doris Baird) and knew in a single visit that it was the absolute perfect environment for my son Sebastian's first outside care and learning. This, after a year of researching local area pre-schools - public and private - and being disappointed by most due to large student ratios and lack of certified teachers and/or lack of age-appropriate resources and facilities. We felt incredibly lucky that Sebastian was able to attend Village Montessori under "Miss Doris" tutelage for almost three years and we were amazed at his growing sensibilities and learning at such a young and impressionable age. We only wish we had sent him a year earlier! His little brother, Joaquin ( 3), is now following in Sebastian's footsteps to the school and we are again thrilled with his newfound independence, confidence and natural affinity for learning and exploring the Montessori Way. We feel privileged in sending both of our little ones to such a safe, inviting, caring, respectful and attentive environment. An added plus is a global learning and diversity perspective and appreciation brought by both staff and in the curriculum that we hadn't found in other pre-schools. Most importantly, both kids can't wait to get out the door on school mornings and get on with "exploring" the day ahead of them. We credit Village Montessori School and Ms. Baird's pride in purpose and professionalism for inspiring them to learn and embrace their own uniquely individual power of creativity and discovery. Most parents think of saving up for college - but we have learned that the tuition spent on our kids invaluable first pre-school experience has indeed been worth every dollar spent on the front-end of a process that will span a lifetime.

Our son has been thriving under the care of Miss Doris at Village Montessori since he was 2.5. He is now 4.5 and I must say that we have been very happy with the school and plan to send our daughter as well when she is old enough. The school is small, peaceful and fosters a love of learning that our children will take with them as they move through life.

Message from Village Montessori Childrens's House

The Montessori preschool classroom or the Children's House is a "living room" for children. Village Montessori is a well prepared environment that is focused on the child's individual pace of learning. We follow the child and believe that, the preschool environment unifies the social, physical, and intellectual functioning of the child. Its important function is to provide children with an early and general foundation that includes a positive attitude toward school, inner security and a sense of order, pride in the physical environment, abiding curiosity, a habit of concentration, habits of initiative and persistence, the ability to make decisions, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility to other members of the class, school and community. This foundation will enable them to acquire more specialized knowledge and skills throughout their school career.
