I have been coming here for years. The students are always friendly and professional, as well as the staff. The facility is beautiful, and it is clear that what these students are learning is a high quality education.

Ratings_icons Avoid this place! (cut and color)

Anonymous

I thought I'd save some money by going to a school - bad idea. First, the students are very unprofessional. The whole time I wished the bubble-heads would shut up. If they listened half as much as they talked maybe my hair wouldn't turn out orange! The instructors really didn't have a part in the hair cutting or coloring, they inspected it at the end. Half of my head has more layers on it than the other. Worst of all the whole fiasco took forever, I wanted to get up and leave half way through. If you are looking for a good hair cut/color in a professional setting, spend the extra money and go to a REAL hair salon. That's what I will do tomorrow.

Ratings_icons If you go...be sure you have plenty of time!

I got an inch and a half cut and layers added. I put emphasis on wanting my hair textured. The stylist in training seemed a little unsure of herself...of course she was attending beauty school. She did really well with the basic cut, her checker suggested she should have used a razor for the entire cut. I thought that would have been great. My advice is to communicate with the stylist and expect a novice. It was only five dollars, though...their going rate so i was satisfied.

Ratings_icons You pay with your time

This is a great place if you're on a budget but have plenty of time. The haircuts take forever (but are practically free). After getting a couple good haircuts there, I was brave enough to get color done there. It came out well, but only after I spent about 5 hours there.

Ratings_icons cheap, but slow, haircuts downtown

Sean S. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,468

I've had my hair cut at Beau Monde several times. It's very cheap but you tend to pay with time rather than money, since a relatively simple haircut can take a long time, between the tentativeness of the students and the time the instructors spend evaluating and making recommendations on their work. The atmosphere is a trip, and it's worth trusting them with your head at least once for the chance to take in the atmosphere and wonder how long it's been since some of the students have eaten anything.

Ratings_icons Ugh... worst haircut possible!

motherlee

I had the worst experience at BeauMonde. I had come in for a haircut & style. It was my first time there. I thought the salon was dirty. The girl that was to do my hair seemed highly disinterested in her job and it was disappointing. I've never had someone so incapable of WASHING hair! She kept splashing water in my eyes, and it felt she hardly rubbed the shampoo into my hair. Very disappointing. I was ready to tell her I'd wash it myself. I asked her how long until she graduated.. She said a couple of months! I couldn't believe she was this inept, but would be graduating soon. So, on to the cut. I have longer hair in layers and just wanted a trim to shape it up. She was good at keeping my lengths, but went crazy with the thinning shears, making it look extremely choppy. Someone in "charge" I guess came over and started working on my hair too, probably to try to "fix" the mess. Long story short, what would've been a relatively simple cut, was a chopped up mess. I didn't realize it as much until I got home and really started looking at it. Wow, this girl is going to be working somewhere in a salon cutting hair?? Lord help her. A few weeks later I went to a very well respected salon and the stylists there could not believe what had been done to my hair. We all got a laugh out of it. She said it looked like a had a "bob" on top of long hair. I ended up having to have my hair cut off to above my shoulders. It clearly looks much better now. I will never go back to BeauMonde and would never suggest it to anyone, unless they want a crappy haircut.

Ratings_icons Best hair color in town

rebeccaanderson022

I had a fabulous weave and it only cost $49.00. I have paid $150 in a salon and didn't like it as much. The teachers were great and the students were very professional. I thought i was in a high end salon because it was spotless.
