Such a sweet find in a small neighborhood. They are friendly and have just about everything you're looking for--including Voodoo donuts!

Great catering from this local grocery store. They will deliver tasty catered meals to the local area. Friendly. I would recommend you check them out.

I used to work on the same street as Ross Island Grocery and Cafe. This was a frequent lunch stop providing great, fresh sandwiches and soup. The grocery side is quaint and provides just enough items to get you through til you hit the bigger stores. Since I no longer work in the area, I still take the 20 minute drive with my mother so she can enjoy her favorite Tuna sandwich and Cafe' Americano for lunch.

When I moved to Lair Hill, the first sign I had welcoming me to the neighborhood was Ross Island Grocery's Thanksgiving Potluck. It's open late on Friday for open mic night, and is easily the most popular place in the neighborhood, dark, full of music and teeming with people sipping wine or stopping in on a beer run. There's more emphasis on "cafe" than "grocery,:" with sandwiches and coffee drinks made to order and a rotation of salads, quiches and desserts. On the grocery side, there's a great selection of beers and other drinks.
The help is friendly and fun.

PROS: meet Lair Hill dwellers in their natural habitat, great beer selection
CONS: $4 minimum on debit cards
