We havebeencoming here for 20 years the service was always good and prompt good prices and fair portions. Untill we found out they use peanut butter in their enchilada sauce. No where did it mention they used peanuts we had even asked a few times before and told no they didn't use peanuts. We will never eat at this resturant again. Booooo el' Indio

El Indio was recommended to us by a friend who works near the restaurant. We enjoyed our meals and the reasonable prices. We have passed on the recommendation to other friends.

We have been numerous times and the lunch menu here is good and cheap. The salsa is not spicy so your kids should love it too. I personally like the enchiladas and my husband likes the chile rellanos.

My husband has been coming here most of his life. The food is always good, and the prices fair. The service is always friendly and attentive. You know what you are going to find every time you go in, it's always a good night at El Indio's!

Pros: Arroz Con Pollo

Cons: Nothing

I visit El Indio as often as I can, at least once a month. Their chicken quesadilla is heavenly, I don't know how they cook the chicken, but it is extremely flavorful, juicy and tender. I have never tried anything on their menu that wasn't good, I especially like the pollo con crema, arroz con pollo and the carne asada. The drinks are all very tasty and fun too! The decor is interesting, to say the least, but it wouldn't be a mexican restaurant without all of the bright colors, funny paintings and fake roses! The staff is very friendly and they are knowledgable about the dishes served and about helping you decide what to get if it is a new experience!

Before my boyfriend and i had met, we both had been here and loved it. When we got together, we now call it our place. We get the same thing everytime. He gets the espresso burrito, and i get the chicken fajitas without peppers. Its amazing. The drinks are wonderful. Its a great place for us to meet all of our friends and have a wonderful time.

Pros: wonderful atmosphere, smoking in the bar

Cons: the lighting in the bar at night is not very good, cant see your food

.

It is not authentic but man does my mouth salivate when I think about this place! I love the carnitas burrito and the Pollo Con Crema.....but I have to say everything is amazing here! The service is great, the chips are great, the salsa is great and the price is unbeatable! They have great daily specials, oh, the arroz con pollo is pretty fabulous! I pretty much love this place and go whenever I get a chance!

The food is good and the prices are decent and the staff is friendly. Sadly, pork carnitas are not on the menu.

I've been eating at this place since 97 and it is still my favorite mexican restaurant in pdx. Sure it may not be as authentic, but for the price and quality you can't beat it. The staff have always been nice and the service is good even when they are slammed. Their salsa is awesome and is actually spicy. Most places its so mild it might as well be tomato sauce. If I had it my way it would be flaming hot, but then most people wouldn't eat it. My boyfriend and I can have each an entre, a side of bean dip, and sodas and only spend about $24 with tip! They also have specials during the weeknights. The Chicken Pipian is my favorite!

I LOVE this place. Yes it is the standard American Mexican, but the food is flavorful, and there is great variety. They have grilled cheese and hamburgers too in case you brought picky kids. Great atmosphere, everyone I know that has been here, loves it and goes back time after time!

As someone has noted, there arent a lot of veggie options, but i've never been unhappy here. The service is great, and my non-veggie boyfriend loves the carne asada. I'll take his word for it.

This place is worth a shot.

El Indio is not big on authentic taste or very spicy but it is big on cheese, and I mean lots of it. Being not so fond of cheese, I was not happy with this dining experience. The menu consists of the standard "American Mexican" food menu, burritos, fajitas, beans, enchiladas. The food is okay but not worth a repeat visit. The atmosphere was very friendly though, the hostess, waitress and all the staff were full of smiles and on our visit there included fun live Mexican music. I like the environment, just not the food unfortunately.

PROS: lots of food for little dollars
CONS: unoriginal Mexican food

Well, since there hasnt been a review written in almost 2 years Ill give my notes to keep it current. El Indio was pretty good. I love Mexican food and always, always, have to try a relleno when I go to a new place. I had basic mexi-ameri fare. Beef enchilada, chile relleno, and taco. I also had a house margarita and XX beer on tap. Total bill was just over $17 before tip. Reasonable and the food was good. Not the best, not the most authentic, but definitely above average. The chips and salsa was very tasty also. I like their salsa it has a nice cilantro and onion flavor with a kick. Tasty! I recommend but this is only the first Mexican restaurant I have tried in the Portland area. If you are like me a looking for a decent review to sway your decisionhere it is. :-)

I love to go to El Indio and get either a chicken enchilada combo plate, or a chicken fajita (no onions or peppers, with mushrooms instead). These are absolutely amazing. As are the chips and salsa - Best EVER! I've been eating there since I was 14, and have many fond memories of the place. Now I live on the West side, and almost never get to go. I do get to go for my birthday, though.

Not many vegetarian choices, but great seafood choices and the best chips and salsa in town! The atmosphere in the bar is one of the best as far as mexican restaurants go.

Pros: daily drink specials, tv's in bar, great seafood dishes

Cons: , too warm in summer, crowded on weekends

We love the food here, the seafood dishes are particularly tasty! Good service too. Although I don't agree that this restaurant is cheap, I feel they're average for a mexican restaurant if you order an average dinner. Still, definitely worth a visit!

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have found in town. The food is excellent, and the staff is friendly. The Arroz con Pollo and the Pollo con Crema are to die for (although it is possible you will die after eating chicken smothered in sour cream, that can't be good for you!). The drinks are reasonably priced and well crafted. Plus, it's open until 2 AM, which makes it a great alternative to thinking outside the bun! Tip for dining: Order one of the house specialties, it's a better bet than ordering combinations by the number.

Average Tacos and burritos but the seafood entrees are the best I have ever encountered.
