Well it finally happened! The owner couldn't handle it anymore! First she sold it to a con-artist named Dave, a few years back. She was getting married and wanted out of the business. Then Dave stole the employee's money but before ditching town he talked her back into buying the business back! She agreed to it. But never really wanted it back. Sharon should have turned the other cheek and let someone with passion for the beauty industry buy it. Instead, the so called "spa" continued on with a horrible front desk, terrible manager, and a few good hair stylist that were not getting paid what they were worth. She hired a few ridiculous hair stylist that made the salon look crazy! Fired a great Aesthetician, who she was the only reason I went there. When she let her go, is when things started going down hill. Everyone, meaning clients can see when a place is barely hanging on. I've been going to Sylvie for about 5 years off and on. I can not tell you how great it feels to see someone's karma come full force!! This is for all the GREAT ones that has come and gone. She fired the wrong people! What goes around, comes around!!! I feel sorry for the few okay people who have to pick up Sharon's mess. I wish them luck and I hope they find a nice place that's not going to steal their money from them.

Hello everyone its Jessica. Sylvie Day Spa closed unexpectedly last Saturday, November 15th. Much to my dismay I do not have correct information to contact many of my clients. I am so sorry if you have called Sylvie or heard through the grapevine that it had closed without me contacting you. I value all of you and would love to see you at my new salon. It is Bouffant Salon in the pearl district, the address is 33 n.w. 9th ave, second floor, Portland, Or, 97209. Their phone number is 503-224-4099. I have started at the new space(I love it!) and would love to see all of you there. Again, I apologize if you have not been contacted. I am trying to locate correct phone numbers in hopes of reaching everyone personally. Thank you for all of your continued support. Sincerely, Jessica

I was recently in need of a change and went to see Eric at Sylvie's for a cut and color. After discussing what I was looking for, Eric sent me away with the new 'sassy' and fabulous look I was wanting! After more than a decade of having my hair colored, I've never been this happy! With his techniques - he was able to cut and color my hair in an hour. I've waited three hours in the past. Love his edgy ideas. He used Sidlab Hair Couture products - and I bought some to use at home as well - the products are GREAT! I had been using Bumble and Bumble prior to switching to Sidlab. Try them - you won't be disappointed. Sylvie is in a great location - a great spa atmosphere - and with parking, which is rare to find in the NW! Eric - - you ROCK! Thank you!!

I've been a regular of Odessa's (for brazilian waxes) for about a year now - she is absolutely fantastic! I started at university last year, and haven't been able to find anyone as nice or as knowledgable about waxing as her, so it's always a relief to come home and book an appointment with her. She's very personable and makes you feel comfortable and at ease, which I think is a super important part of having good "down there" waxing experience. She uses the blue wax, which takes longer than strip wax (an appointment is an hour) but I've had both kinds used before and I really prefer Odessa's approach. She's very careful to make sure that you have a voice while you're being waxed - always asking if the wax is too hot, if you prefer small or large sections to be done, landing strip or full monty / completely bare, etc. I'd definitely recommend her to any first timers or anyone looking for a new esthetician that speciailizes in waxing!

I have had bad experiences with Eric Alan and Sidlab also. Eric may be a good hairdresser but why does he move around so much? unreliable maybe? a bit crazy, definitely. DON'T deal with Sidlab!

Eric Alan Nelson may be an incredible hairstylist? But when it comes to Sidlab Hair Couture he and his "vice president" are much less. They offer no guarantee for thier supposed high qualtiy hair products. And just in case your not happy dont bother trying to return them...........unless your willing to pay a non-disclosed 50% restocking fee!!!!! It all seems a little sketchy to me. I doubt if this business will around long.

A very good friend sent me to Sylvie's Spa for my first facial last month. OMG, it was the most amazing experience! Odessa gave me a facial that rivaled the best massage I've ever had. I'm sold on her and can't wait to schedule my next. Odessa was fun, friendly, loves people and thinks women are just not pampered enough and all of that comes through when she is lovingly messaging your face and shoulders.
It's 10+ highly recommended!!

Pros: Amazing facial, ok massage, hair and makeup. nice way to be pampered. great parking.

Cons: expensive, noisy atmosphere in the massage area, doesn't have steam or shower facilities or they didn't offer it.

Sylvie has had many mixed reviews lately but I've got to say that my experience there was very nice. The staff at Sylvie is so down to earth and together they really make you feel like family. This place may not be perfect but you have to give a little credit to a Portland spa that's been around for over twenty years and continues to offer great services from a fun, down to earth staff. Often times perfection comes with a stuffy atmosphere which you wont find at this spa so I suggest trying Sylvie for your next spa day. You won't be dissapointed.

Thank you Sylvie for so many wonderful days and memories with my daughter. We love coming to your spa so much - from the massages, pedicures, and manicures to the hair cuts and more - that we now look for ways to celebrate, so that we have an excuse to come back!

I have been going to Sylvie Day Spa for several years and I must honestly say that the professionalism and quality has declined. I mainly went there for the spa package which included Christine doing the most AMAZING facials!! She is long gone and the current facial people dont even compare. My last visit there, I was NOT offered a robe or slippers, the massage therapist smacked her gum all through the massage (I contacted the manager afterwards and was offered a complimentary massage with someone different) the facial girl didn't do any extraction, nor did she have those nice heated foot pads. The pedicure was OK. I like that they offer you wine. Overall, it's an OK spa, but I don't think I'm going to continue to go there. I may be nitpicking, but if I'm going to spend upwards of $300, I HOPE for quality service. That's an off shoot at Sylvies.

Very disappointing experience at Sylvie Day Spa. My daughter took me for a pedicure for a birthday treat and the service was very poor. We sat next to each other for the pedicure and the two technicians talked to each other and gossiped about other customers. My daughter had arranged for paraffin treatments and they forgot them even though we were charged; when brought to their attention they did deduct the paraffin portion. The service was rushed, my daughter's nails were cut way too short. Primarily we were bothered by the rush service and then while we sat in the waiting area for our polish to dry the technicians were just sitting behind the curtained area chatting with each other in the hair cutting area. Perhaps we are spoiled, but I think that for the 45.00 they charge for a basic pedicure that you should get more than an office chair with a dish of hot water and a rushed nail treatment. I also do not like to hear gossip about customers as they could just as well gossip about me! In addition they do not use new implements so risk of fungus is more possible. Take your money elsewhere. On the plus side, they have good parking!

Eric Alan Nelson is Great! Thank you Eric. This is the best hair makeover I have ever had! Sylvie uses Sidlab products! Very exclusive! The receptionist was so kind....she brought me magazines and wine/ cookies. Parking is free. Holidays are a little hard to get in. I have been all over town and would recommend Sylvie Spa to anyone. P.s the skin and nail services were good too.

I recently went to Sylvie Day Spa for a facial. The experience was amazing and extremely relaxing. From the moment I entered until the moment I left, I was treated with respect, sincerity, and kindness. I was offered a snack and something to drink and was introduced to the entire Sylvie Day Spa familiy, including the owner. The owner took time to inquire upon how I was feeling and if there was anything else she could do to make me feel more content. My Aesthetician for the day was Kalina. She was very sweet, engaging, and assuaged all my feelings of nervousness away. She was interested in who I was and made a personal connection. I am naturally a talkative person however, that day, I was worn out and tired. Kalina must have sensed that because after a while she became taciturn and just let me relax and enjoy the service. I loved the whole experience of Sylvie Day Spa and would definitely reccommend it to all my friends and family!!!

It's really a sad story of me spending my hard earned money at such an awful place. What I know is this, the owner is aware of how unhappy her staff is that they have nothing but horrible things to say about her and each other! I can't imagine what they say about the customers! And she is okay with this?! My girl friend was in town from LA and we thought a day of pampering would be lovely. The service was okay. Unfortunately my friend had a facial by a girl who couldn't wait to quit so she could move back to Vegas and start her life over. She was so bad, she forgot to put on the mask during the treatment. I had been in there to get a specialty facial in February and the wonderful lady who gave me my facial was superb at her job. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable. And when it came to our pedicures, we just wanted to leave. That's when we over-heard gossip with-in the spa. I'm sorry but this place has some screws loose. She needs to fire and re-hire!

The Sylvie workers are so friendly and chatted with me as I waited for a relaxing pedicure. They helped me pick out some hair products and makeup to purchase and even applied a bit of the makeup on me as I waited. The pedicure was so pampering and everything I could wish for. The only downfall was the horrible parking situation, I went during the weekday before downtown business hours were over so on street parking at the curbs was so difficult. I ended up blocks away after many times around the one-way streets of this difficult area to drive.

PROS: great products, pampering and great staff
CONS: leave lots of time to park

I received a gift certificate from co-workers toward services at Sylvie Day Spa. The massage service was fantastic, but the customer service at the front desk was not as good. The girl who was at the front desk first said I owed one thing, then said another. I paid and left, then the next day I received a phone call from Sylvie's manager telling me I needed to come in that day and pay them an additional $35. I hope they've since gotten someone at the front desk who can add and subtract correctly, because it's highly inconvenient for customers to have to rearrange their schedules to accomodate employee errors.

I've had a few pedicures at Sylvie and I always leave feeling as if I was royalty.

Have a glass of wine while the pedicurist massages away any stress or pain you little tootsies have been feeling. The sugar scrub leaves your skin feeling soft and refresed and your toes have never been prettier.

Ask the staff for resutaurant recomendations, they always know the best local places!

The cost is a bit higher then the little whole in the wall place, but it's worth every penny.

PROS:
CONS: parking can be a nightmare

I found this place thru the book "Beauty" by Rona Berg for a day spa but used it for a haircut and color. I was able to get an appt within two days. Camille was great. I was one of the first appts for the day so it wasnt crowded. The salon was clean. They offered my spouse and I a drink. The staff & front desk were friendly. I loved my cut and color. The services ended up cheaper than originally quoted, but the same if I had visited the JCPenneys salon. Some of the staff seemed to wander around. A little gossip but I've encountered that at any salon or day spa I've visited. Will visit Camille again for a cut & color. Interested in trying some of their other services.

Pros: free parking, online website

Camille took wonderful care of me! As she took my coat, she offered tea, coffee, water, or wine to drink. After looking at the picture I'd brought with me and examining my current style, she worked her magic. Not only does my cut look exactly like the picture, she made sure to alter it a tad to fit my face. I am looking better than ever!

I have been a client a Sylvie for many years, and as a long time client I have experienced lots of Sylvie staff members. They haven't all been 100%, and sometimes I have shared some constructive criticism. But the management of Sylvie has always endeavored for 21 years to provide the highest quality technical and customer service. On those occasions when something just wasn't quite what I expected, the company stood behind their promise and did what was necessary to make me happy. I've sent many friends to Sylvie, and they have all come back to me and thanked me. My daughter was married last summer and we had a great spa day for the wedding party. Great fun!

Pros: Friendly, Customer First, Professional

Before you go here for "spa services" make sure you don't mind noise and nail smells. I used to go here for facials but my esthetician --the one who wrote this menu-- moved and I am much happier at her new place. I tried going back here for haircuts but the place has a bit too much of an edge, and not in a good way.

My spa day began with a massage and facial, which were good. Dim lights, soft music, nice herbal aroma from candles - exactly what I expected. Then I had a pedicure and manicure, which were also fine. Here's my complaint: I spent $16 for lunch and it was from deli next door. The food was awful. Then, my manicure was next to a kitchen area. I watched someone load the dishwasher and heard the dishwasher run. Then, someone on their staff pulled some food out of the refrigerator and I got to smell that while she ate. I spent over $250 and I was disappointed. Never again.

The atmosphere in the individual rooms was extremely relaxing. The reception area did seem to be gossip area for the receptionists and stylists. I went to get my eyebrows done and the woman who styled them was great. She was interested in what I wanted done and was accomodating.

I was given a $250 gift voucher for Sylvie Day Spa for my birthday. I went for a massage and a pedicure which was both fine. However, the reception staff had a real attitude problem and were downright rude to me. I ended up giving the rest of my gift certificate to a friend because I did not want to go back. I think if you pay that kind of money they should at least make you feel welcome!

The people who do the hair and facial are exceptional.
The only down side is the rude reception. Ignore it, it is worth it once people who actually perform the service attend to you.

I have just recently moved to Portland. In my search to find a new salon home I have tried out several spas and salons, and I have to say that the overall feeling I have gotten at Sylvie has won me over. Pauline does fabulous gel nails, and you can't go wrong with any of the aestheticians. The reception staff is warm and they make me feel like I have been a Sylvie client for years. They made a mistake on one of my appointments and they were quick to acknowledge it and make it up to me.I can easily understand their pride at being in Portland for 20 years.

I came in with my wedding party to enjoy a morning at the Spa and our experience was wonderful from the time we walked in the front door. The front desk personnel were professional and on top of it, and our facials and massages were among the best we've ever had! Sylvie had arranged brunch and champagne for us while we were having our pedicures and manicures. The perfect morning! What a treat!

Cranky receptionist, harried staff with less than spa-worthy skills; not a relaxing environment. Would not go back or recommend to anyone.

I took my sister for a day of pampering to celebrate her 50th birthday ... we had a wonderful time! The staff was friendly and knowledgable, and very professional. We had lunch included with our treatments, it felt very decadent to be eating and drinking wine while having a pedicure! I will definitely return again.

I highly recommend this spa! I made my appointment at the last minute, and they fit me in at a time that was great for me. Amanda gave me the best pedicure I've ever had!

It was a tad bit on the expensive side, but worth it!
