HORRIBLE.
Unknowledgeable demeaning rude staff. Got over rang. called the manager then brought in the recipt to show him and go called a liar. No aplogies for the worst service i have ever recieved, only insults! This is no way to run a business. THEY ARE THEIVES. No bike store in all of the portland metro area ive been to has been worse than this. I have gone all over with my bike and never had a worse experience. I left the store in tears after being verbally assaulted and called names. I will never go back here, and neither should you. We had work done that ended up BREAKING when we got it home and NO OFFER to fix it or refund our OVER CHARGED fees. We were charged nearly triple the price we quoted. I cannot say enough to how horrid my experience was. I will be reporting them to the BBB and possibly to the nonemergency police for theft.

I am a new fan of Sunset Cycles. They have knowledgeable, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. I have had disappointing experiences at many shops in Portland but left Sunset feeling great about my purchase. I highly recommend this shop!

I ride a lot (no appologies). Commuting, recreational riding, OBRA races etc. And I spend a lot too. This is the one shop I've found where I haven't been treated like crap. (Well, to be fair, Bike Gallery on NE Sandy was pretty good too. But just the one on Sandy.) I'm not a hipster. I'm a busy person with normal obligations and a rather humble fleet of bikes. Sunset Cycles totally gets that. Roger, Chris, Aaron, and Matt understand that I need reliability and performance at a sensible price point. When my race bike developed a crack in the frame early this Spring...they went out of their way to contact the manufacturer and secure a replacement within a week at almost no cost...it was a significant upgrade AND it was all for a bike I bought somewhere else before I knew about Sunset Cycles! One more thing; I'm not one of those customers who subscribe to bringing beer to the bike shop to persuade the mechanics to work on your bike. I mean come on. At Sunset Cycles they don't work that way. The irony is that at Sunset I would indeed like to show that appreciation.

Pros: Great people: mechanics and owner !

Cons: None ...really

Ehem...SIR you illustrated my point for me. As a WOMAN I did NOT get the special "take the bike for a spin and warm friendly greeting." NOPE, not going to buy the "slipped through the cracks"...heard this from 4 other women that went their too. WE were the wrong gender for the service you received.

Guess the old saying is true: How can you understand until you walk a mile in a woman's moccasins?

I saw the first review and can't help but think how this person slipped through the cracks and didn't receive the same welcoming smiles and help that I received. I'm sorry that it didn't workout. My experience and my wife's experience with Sunset Cycles has been so great that they will definitely be my first point of contact for all service, purchases, and information. They really know what they're talking about and one thing I do agree with is that sometimes you do have to ask a few more questions to get simple answers because they do know bikes so well, that they talk in a language that can be foreign to newbies, but you just have to ask better questions. They will definitely get 100% of my business. In fact we're getting my wifes bike there this weekend and buying a trail behind bike for our 3.5 yr old son. Extremely pleased with this company!

Pros: Great technical knowledge, allow you to ride the bike around before you buy.

Cons: MSRP Pricing, but that's pretty much at any bike shop.

I went to Sunset Cycles with the intention of spending up to $1,000 on a bike.

I walked in and greeted them with a smile and hello. I received a blank look between the two workers (owners?) as if they were debating who would talk to me. I was greeted with a hesitant and unfriendly, "Em, can I help you?" I explained that I wanted to purchase a bike for riding trails, since I knew my 10 speed bike was not appropriate. I let her know that I knew nothing about the bikes and thought that a hybrid was what I wanted. I was on a fact finding mission and this was my first stop because I wanted to keep my dollars as local as possible.

I went in to get expert guidance and advice. What I received was buzz words that I had to keep asking, "What does that mean?" Each question was like pulling teeth and it was obvious that she wasn't interested in talking to me in a level I could relate to. Instead of showing me what a hybrid or other bikes consisted of I had to ask each about the details one...by...one. It was like pulling teeth. Rather than being enthusiastic that I was ready and excited about getting a bike to explore Oregon I received a very dull, and uninspiring experience.

Being that I worked full service retail for years, I wondered why that was. I was wearing moderately dressy work clothes and polite. The thought that came to mind was I wasn't wearing "road gear" and I am not a man or hard core rider. The "geared out" riders got all kinds of enthusiasm and commeraderie from the man behind the counter.

I have since gone to another bike shop and the guys couldn't wait to get me on board with the equipment to keep me safe and give me the best riding experience. They took me seriously and showed me what I need to do to choose a great bike and how to maintain it. They were able to treat a novice with respect and relate to my needs.

I am really sorry that Sunset Cycles doesn't understand the concept of true, unbiased customer service.

Pros: If you are a "gear head" in full attire...GREAT!

Cons: Unwilling to treat non "gear heads" or women as good customers with $$$$ to spend.

This is a great little bicycle shop tucked into the Bethany Shopping Center. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. When my daughter started riding her bike to school, they helped outfit her for safety.
