I was training to walk a marathon and started having a joint issue. Someone recommended I go to Fit Right for some help. The salesperson put me on a treadmill and saw that I was pronating and recommended several different shoes in different price ranges. Of course, it was the expensive one that felt the best. But as I could see the difference when they videotaped me I was sold. The staff is extremely knowledgable. But it is sometimes understaffed when there are more than a couple of people in the store.

Whether you are looking for shoes, sports bras, or other athletic gear, this place has what you need. The clothes are moderately priced, brand-name, and the staff is helpful and educated; many of them are runners themselves. You can also sign up for various running and walking events. There are two locations, one in Portland, the other in Vancouver, WA.

After wearing out pair after pair of department-store running shoes, I decided to go to the experts. Their free gait analysis was awesome, and their sales staff were very friendly and helpful. They didn't try to push one brand over another, and they let me take several pairs for test run around the block. I couldn't be happier with my Sauconys!

I've never seen a store with so many knowledgable employees. They put me on a treadmill and video recorded my walk. They chose the shoes for me and fit them to my foot. I now have a higher expectation of shoe stores after visiting Pace Setter Northwest.

Cons: too easy to spend $

More about Fit Right Northwest

Our Fitting Process [free gait analysis center] Fit Right NW sales associates perform a complimentary video gait analysis for every new customer! This process allows the sales associate to accurately determine the mechanics of your walking or running stride, focusing on the heel contact, mid-stance and toe-off phase of the gait cycle. After videotaping your stride, the sales associate can replay the video so that you can see for yourself how your feet function dynamically. Gait analysis has proven successful in identifying a customer??s ideal support category. Following the video analysis, the sales associate will measure your foot length and width using a Brannock device, the industry standard for a hundred years. Next, the sales associate will perform a subjective evaluation to determine volume, identify pressure points, and identify individual problems such as bunions or black toenails. Finally, the sales associate will have you put on a shoe, check a series of points to ensure a proper fit, and ask you to perform a shoe test run. The test run allows you to evaluate the overall comfort and fit of a shoe outdoors and on our in-store treadmills. Upon completion of the fitting process, Fit Right NW will give you 30 days to run or walk in your shoes. If you provide us with your email address, our customer service representative will also follow up (in store purchases only) with you within 30 days of your purchase to make sure that the product is working out well for you. If you??re not 100 percent satisfied, you are welcome to come back and exchange your shoes.
