We've been taking dogs to Zimmers for 18 years, and have always been pleased with the high quality, low-stress service. Our current pups are oversized Russian wolfhounds, and Kelly has been really flexible about grooming them, given that they're large and difficult to handle (we promise tiny dogs on the next round, Kelly!) Before this pair, we had cocker spaniels, and Kelly did a great job with them, as well. Thanks, Zimmers!
They are very nice and doing a great job. My pup is a bit of a barker so I am always worried when she is around other dogs, but the folks at Zimmer's always do a good job at keeping my dog calm and happy.
The prices are very reasonable and they are flexible with drop-off and pick-up times.
If you want to get your dog in on the weekend, you need to call mid-week to schedule an appointment as they usually book up quickly. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
I have been using Zimmers for almost a year now, and they have never disappointed. This is actually the first place I have ever been able to take my dog where he wasn't scared to go in. They do a very thorough job in grooming him, and are incredibly sweet ladies. I can tell that they truly enjoy the dogs, and are very reasonably priced. Even though I moved to SW Portland, I'll continue to use this north Portland business!
I have been going to Zimmers with my dogs since I tried another North Portland groomer and was constantly offended by the way she treated me, my husband and my dogs. Zimmers gives you no heat if you wait a little too long and your dog is a little dirty. MY GOD! That's their job, isn't it? The other place, I always felt like the person who has to clean the house before the maid comes, so the maid won't be mad about the mess. And my dog was always super stressed when she came home from that place, like she had been abused. Give me a break! Zimmers is the place to get great grooming, friendly service and happy dogs.
i have been taking my dogs here for about three years now and i abslutely love this place. they always take such good care of my pets. they know what they are doing. they are friendly and polite and dont have high rates. they are very reasonable. they answer all my questions quick. good professional business.
Okay, I admit it. I don't brush my bichon fris every day. We've taken him to groomers who give us all kinds of attitude about his knots (which you wouldn't notice if you weren't a groomer) and then not only do they charge us extra, but one place actually made notes in our acccount that the dog had knots, so they can remember to give us flak in the future. Imagine our delight to find a groomer that's conveniently located, charges less than the attitude merchants, and actually makes us feel like they like having us for customers! We're hooked.
I've been taking my dog there for about five years. It's convenient to North Portland residents, clean, and the owner, Kelly, is nice and clearly loves dogs.
It's $20 for a medium-sized dog, and my pet comes home calm and happy sporting a bandana.
A bowlful of dog treats makes the initial separation easier. Leashes and other dog gifts are available.
I waited to write this review until my puppy could have another grooming experience at a different establishment in order to be as objective as possible. Four months ago, I took my then 5-month old puppy in to have his first groom. I emphasized how much I hoped that his first experience would be a positive one, and the puppy I dropped off was confident, happy, and used to being brushed every day, and nails clipped once a week. I was told when I picked him up that he had been very well behaved, and that it was obvious he had been groomed frequently at home. However, the dog I picked up was a nervous wreck: he hid under the dining table for the next two days, he would not allow any of the family to approach him, pet him, nor play with him. We were devastated, and could not understand what had happened during his grooming that would have elicited such a dramatic, negative response. It was as though we had brought home a completely different dog. I even took him to the vet to have him looked at, so complete and distressing was this total change in personality. The vet found him to be in good health. Over the next weeks he gradually came around to his old self, but it took much patience and gentle handling. Today I took him to another local groomer, explained what had happened at Zimmer's, and stayed with my dog while he was groomed. He enjoyed his grooming experience, was tolerant of the clippers, the scissors, the dryer, et al, and left the shop with his head held high and wagging his tail. While I won't ever know exactly what happened when I dropped off my dog at Zimmer's, I am left to conclude that, at best, the staff there treated my dog very roughly indeed.
Cons: traumatized dog, terrible cut
I have been taking my dogs here for 20 years...wow. I just did the math and amazed myself. I love these ladies, and I have always been happy with the outcome of the visits my dogs have had. and I have taken everything in from a Malamute to a Toy Poodle...currently a Rat Terrier for nail trimming. I honestly can't think of taking my dogs any place else. They are reasonably priced, friendly, and have been in the business for a very long time.
Pros: Wonderful People
I can symathise with some pet owners that are to busy to brush their dogs on a regular basis but to compare it to cleaning before the maid comes is totally ridiculus... Regular maintence inbetween grooming is an important part of owning a dog. When your matted dog goes to a groomer brushing and dematting is uncomfortable and can be very painful. Not to mention unpleasent for the groomer. As Groomers we do not want to hurt your dog. This can be aviodable by maintaining your pet or sceduling appointments sooner. DO you brush your hair in between salon visits?? If you didn't she would charge for her extra time also.
I take my teacup Pomeranian here and they do an excellent job on him! He always looks so cute! Plus, they are very affordable, and always call me to pick him up earlier than I am expecting which is nice!
I have taken many different style pictures from the internet saying 'i want this' or to try that' and they are very accommodating. He has had a lion cut and two teddy cuts, one with fluffy ears. Even had little bows when i came to get him :)
I am very happy and would highly recommend Zimmers!
Pros: Professional, Very Friendly, Loving to the Dogs
Cons: don't accept credit cards
I found the shop to be dirty and groomer's to be in a hurry to be done for the day. Drop of my dog by 8:30am and they didn't take the time to do a complete job. Had to return to have my dogs ears cleaned and still didn't get the job done right.
Would not recommend....
Pros: None
Cons: Dirty, poor grooming job
I was really dissapointed to learn that Zimmers wouldn't groom my gentle-giant Golden Retreiver. They have an 85 lb. maximum for dogs due to the owner's back injury.
I have been using Zimmers for almost a year now, and they have never disappointed. The ladies are incredibly friendly, and are great to my dog. It is the first groomer that he is not afraid to go to, and always looks great when he leaves. I moved to SW Portland 6 months ago, but will continue using this North Portland business! To be able to completely trust a groomer is truly an awesome thing.
Pros: Attention to Detail, Courtesy, Treats My Dog Very Well, Value
Cons: Absolutely None
Called this company, looking for a specific flea treatment. Was treated very rude on the phone and hung up on. When calling back, they didn't even bother to answer the phone. Guess I take my money elsewhere.
Pros: none
Cons: rude, not helpful, doesn't answer phone
The staff here was very kind and we were pleased to go to a locally owned business in our new neighborhood. Sadly, the cut our dog received was very uneven and not the appropriate style for his breed. This groomer seems to be the dog equivalent of the quickie $6.99 haircut. A good deal, but just be aware of the cut your pet will likely be sporting when they get home.
Pros: cheap and nice
Cons: poor grooming results
