Been to Clarks twice in the last month, the reason for the second time......honestly, was hoping the first experience was a fluke!! Food was sub par, then when the food came out wrong.....the chef (also the owner) was not happy with us!! The issue quickly became our problem!! The 2nd visit we came with our two teenage boys and when they ordered the 13.00 cheeseburger we were told we could not sit in the dining room and had to move 15 feet away to the bar area!!!! Really!! We asked why? The answer was- the chef/owner said so!! Ok, so we moved.....then ordered the 13.00 burgers, they were small and tasted terrible...for some reason the chef/owner thinks it's a good idea to put garlic in the burger and in the mustard!!! So, 4 drinks, 4 crappy burgers, 3 small Caesar salads, being moved from the dining room to the empty bar area and a bill of 115.00.....the experience was ridiculous for the 2nd time!!

This is a quaint restaurant with good food that always seems to be busy when I am there. I highly suggest that you make reservations if you don't want a long wait. Reasonable prices.

A great restaurant with an intimate setting. We went there with 3 other couples and had an amazing dinner. The polenta was great and the wine amazing.

I'll start by saying that I'm a food snob, so if I give a restaurant 5 stars it probably deserves it.

We started with a basket of bread, and it came with butter and a blue cheese butter which was quite tasty.

After reading about the lobster & shrimp risotto from other reviewers here, I just had to try it. It was excellent. I'm glad I ordered it even though I had a bit of shrimp in my entree. It was more on the rich side but somehow went down easy, so you could eat the whole thing (some rich dishes you just can't finish).

For my entree I had sauteed free range chicken breast with bay shrimp in a madeira sauce. It came with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. This was just as good. The chicken breast was so tender and not dried out at all (quite moist actually). My friends ordered the risotto cake and "noisettes of salmon & sole a la basquaise" (see their menu on the site for details), and both were also great.

As for dessert, I think it's safe to assume it would be as good as everything else was, especially with what I read on the dessert menu. Unfortunately, I didn't have any room after the risotto and healthy portion of chicken. I can highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning (probably for the halibut and dessert).

Clarke's is a prissy little restaurant with great food. They do take reservations and the wait at lunch can be discouraging so make a reservation. The service is wonderful and the food is far from ordinary. It is flavorful and unique.

I have eaten here for lunch several times and every time has been terrific. They have an innovative menu at reasonable prices and a friendly staff. The ambience is great. The noise level is low so you can have conversations in a relaxed casual manner. Go to Clarkes and enjoy.

Clarke's Restaurant has reached the pantheon of fine dining in Oregon. Chef Jonathan Clarke presides over the preparation of a wide range of contemporary cuisines - French, Italian, and American. This family-owned restaurant dishes up food that covers the gamut from simple to esoteric and absolutely sublime. There?s a menu choice to reflect many culinary moods or needs. In a word, Clarke?s delivers a consistent quality of excellence.

I was stunned the first time my wife and I visited Clarke?s by the originality and the sheer array of splendid tastes that confronted us. And we are still stunned, literally every time we dine at this exquisite restaurant.

The appetizers are thoughtful and beautifully executed. I highly recommend the Lobster & Shrimp Risotto. All of the entrees at Clarke's exhibit a variety of preparations and flavors that will appeal to the most discriminating diners. Yet every dish is approachable: no pretense here. My three favorites are the Grilled Beef Tenderloin, the Muscovy Duck Leg Confit & the Fishermans? Pie. People who dine here are as passionate about eating good food as a restaurant like Clarke?s is about preparing it.

The service is always, gracious and impeccable. In summary, this restaurant is the complete package...Excellent food and wine, a professional wait staff, dedicated owners and the feel of international influence in the atmosphere. Dinner at Clarke's is almost always not just dinner, but an event unto itself. And that speaks volumes.

We would have rated this restaurant three stars except for one complaint: we were asked to leave. We were a very quiet party of five for dinner starting at 5pm and we politely obliged the request to leave at 730pm. We were asked to leave with the explanation that there was a party of 12 that they wanted to seat. There seemed to be plenty of room in the restaurant at that time at several empty tables.

The food was good but not great, except for the special appetizer of halibut cheeks which was excellent. The wine was delicious - our party tried a bottle of the house pinot gris and petite syrah and both were excellent. The service was very good and all of the courses were well timed. If you have your heart set on losing track of time and getting lost for three hours of dinner and conversation, this may not be the place for you, but otherwise the food and service are good or better.

David and I have eaten at Clarke's before and loved it! So, we reserved the entire restaurant for our February 9th wedding reception! It was absolutely perfect thanks to Laurie, Jonathan, and the staff there. Our guests are still raving about the shrimp and lobster risotto, the sea bass, the tenderloin, and the incredible wine choices. Laurie was wonderful to work with during the months leading up to the reception, as she was incredibly helpful in menu selection, wine selection, and room setup, as well as really patient with a first time bride! Laurie and Jonathan also baked and decorated our cake, and that was really great as well. Everything was well organized and we had a great and friendly wait staff for our guests. Our guests commented on what a great choice of locations, and they plan to return to eat there in the future. David and I will be back soon too!

a Good meal with very good service. My mother has a cinnamon allergy and the waiter went to the point of calling the pastry chef at his home to determine if there was cinnamon in the desert my mother wanted. truly exceptional service. Not a restaurant for children or the picky but they do a good job of catering to customer wants and modifying their food. For example i had a Caesar salad with steak on top and it was very good. also very good is the selection of house made gelato and sorbets.

One of the best qualities of Clarke's is that the food is always exceptional. The lobster risotto is a must. But, you can't go wrong with any of their five-star dishes. The atmosphere is extremely cool and comfortable, you'd never know that this beautiful food haven existed looking at Clarke's from the street.

Despite the amazing food, there is one item I've noticed to be very consistently awkward. The people. The staff at Clarke's never feels very genuine or outgoing, and I always feel awkward going there. I crave the risotto, but not enough to endure the somewhat cold staff.

Also, when you sit at the bar, suddenly the charm is gone when you watch the bartender pour your wine or cocktail through an elaborate pouring system. Its too mechanical, exacting, and adds to the coldness of the place.

My husband and I had a great dinner at Clarke's on Monday night. First of all, there is no corkage fee on Mondays so we brought our own favorite bottle to enjoy. Second, the service was excellent. Our server was Dana, he was as professional as they come, very helpful and friendly. I asked him about the Risotto appetizer and he told me it was worth a try. They were OH-SO-GOOD! We loved them. I had perfectly cooked steak that I keep thinking about. My husband enjoyed his pork tenderloin with an awesome side of spatzle. We had loved Clarke's before the remodel and we tried it afterwards but it was still daylight outside and felt it didn't show well in daylight. Last night, Clarke's was SO redeemed it looked great. It is still one of our favorites and the food is excellent. Great espresso too!

Was just there Friday for a birthday dinner. Not having been before, my wife and I guess things have changed a lot, provoking some of the recent reviews - certainly the decor is not much like pictures on the website - there were no table linens, lot of glass partitions, the whole place is very bright.

BUT, thankfully the food was very good, a short, good menu, big wine list, good desserts and drink pairings. Service was good, eventhough the place was packed, we weren't rushed.

I was kinda worried I'd picked the wrong venue, and yes it was more casual than I'd expected, though I think we'll be more likely to revisit because of that.

We use to come to Clarke's for romantic, quiet dinners, the food was great and the wine list even better! They have done an extensive remodel and expansion and in my opinion they have ruined the restaurant.

It was very noisy and the staff was rude. I asked if they could hang up my coat, the waiter was doing something on the computer and left me standing with coat in hand for 5 minutes while he finished what HE WAS DOING!

We ordered our entree's thay arrived cold. The menu has changed and is not nearly as interesting as it use to be.

It is very unfortunate, this use to be one of our favorite restaurants in LO but we will not be back.
Dinner for two with one glass of wine each + tip was $100.00. It is definitely not worth the $$$ anymore! It use to be!

If it were quieter and the guests were not allowed to bellow at the top of their lungs, it may not be enough to bring us back. We belong to a wine group and have been coming for several years, but the atmosphere and quality has just slipped too much to reconsider. The food was hastily prepared and yes, there were cold, overcooked dishes at the table. Some entrees were excellent, but it was not the majority. It is not romantic, nor does it resemble an adult-like atmosphere, unless you are into high-fiving at the tables around the crowded dining rooms. Clarke's lost our wine group's business, as well as dining/catering business. Management was non-receptive to our concerns and that is not acceptable.

Pros: Parking, dessert

Cons: Dinner entrees-cold and overcooked, wine list full of holes (aka out of many), NOISE

.

We are not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. Since the recent building remodel, Clarke's has become sort of a clip joint. While the food is still fair, it is NOT consistent, entrees were not hot and over cooked at times. Service is "fine". Our biggest complaint is the extremely loud, non-relaxing and non-romantic environment. We left feeling that we were taken, as for two, we paid over $200 for a bottle of wine, 2 entrees, starters and dessert and it was only mediocre quality food; not to mention the deafening noise coming from the multitude of other loud-mouthed patrons. Sad to say, we will NOT be returning. This place needs some serious over-looking by management or they will be back off the map, once again. It is too loud and sloppy! No wonder they almost went under a year ago.

Cons: Noise and Food

.

In short: the lamb was excellent. Snapper was over cooked and dried to jerky-like consistency. We had the unfortunate experience of sitting in a room near 9 of the loudest, most crude people to inhabit this earth. We mentioned the noise to our server, but they kept serving the loud table vino-which caused them to become louder still; all this despite our having to plug our ears to avoid ruptured ear drums. I have never spent an evening at dinner in a noisier environment, even at the Chuck E Cheese with toddlers. Management did absolutely nothing and since it was Weds, 25% off their over priced wines, there were no other tables to move to. When we left our ears felt like we just listened to a rock concert and we are in our 30s, so we are not old people making a complaint, this was vulgar and disrespectful. DO NOT dine at Clarkes if you want a peaceful, romantic or good meal. Not to mention their wine list is over rated and over priced. This was a huge disappointment. We will NEVER return and warn all of our other Lake Oswego friends, family and neighbors of the same.

Cons: noise, management, price and lack of class

We dined at Clarke's with our wine group. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, the wine was so so and over priced and the most difficult part was trying to speak over the noise. Yes, we expressed our heartfelt concerns to our server, but they did not have any other place for us to move to that was quieter; their only attempt was to "let us know the sound proofing panels were on order". We left early because we could not even talk without screaming across the table to hear one another. Also, the food was not what we were lead to believe. We had 4 of the 7-8 starters and most of the entrees between our large table and only 2:8 starters and 3 entrees were rated above average. Mostly "overcooked" was the main complaint, improper temperature (cold) and basically thrown together for presentation. Out table spent over $2k that night and it was the worst evening we have ever spent. Clarke's lost our business forever.

Cons: food, loud environment, service and wine list

Clarke's is now one of our favorite places. The new remodel is very nice but it's the food that brings us back over and over. The salmon dishes they serve are out of this world! Plus the presentation is always first-rate. Never had a meal there I didn't like. And if you have wine questions, Andrew is the waiter for you - always recommends us wonderful wines.

Most restaurants have their ups and downs. We have never had other than a great meal at this restaurant. Jonathan and Laurie clearly strive for (and almost always reach) perfection. From the relaxing but sophisticated atmosphere to the superb food to the top notch wine list to the sumptuous deserts to the professional but friendly service, this place never disappoints. The braised meat dishes aren't found like this anywhere. The lobster and shrimp risotto always inspires. Lake Oswego now has other nice restaurants, but none of these match Clarke's for consistently exquisite cuisine.

We have been eating at Clarkes since it was first opened. This is a wonderful, family-run restaurant with warm, witty service and great food. Go local and support this "non-chain" for great atmosphere, great food and fabulous service! I loved the suggestion of champagne for an appetizer. The food was so subtle and tasty. It was so yummy! We took our whole family and had a great time.

We couldn't get into Tucci's (still looking forward to trying them) so we tried Clarke's, which is nearby. We have eaten there before, but it had been some time. This was a perfect evening in every way. Service was personal, casual, fun. Each of our entres deserved a 10. We needed to be reminded that this is probably LO's best restaurant - so thanks to Clarke's for the reminder!

This was a perfect evening in every way. Service was personal, casual, fun. Each of our entres deserved a 10. We needed to be reminded that this is probably LO's best restaurant - so thanks to Clarke's for the reminder!

Pros: Super entres, Good parking, No wait

.

My wife and I have been trying many different restaurants in the area, and we always end up comparing them to Clarkes. The food is great, and the service is also super. I've had some main dishes that are perhaps too subtle in flavor for me, but everything I've had has been good.

The desserts are basic, but really delicious - save room for them!
