Timberline is always my first choice when going up the mountain. The terrain is great, the price is reasonable, and the food is good too. It's a little further drive to get there, but well worth it.

I so love going up to Timberline Lodge during the winter. I dont ski but i've heard skiing here is great. The lodge itself is amazing. it's 2 storys. The bottom story is for eating dinner, kinda like a restaurant feel. We were there one time while a dinner party was going on and it was amazing. The top level circles around the downstairs and has these big comfortable couches that are right next to these gigantic windows. It's so relaxing sitting there watching the snow fall while sipping a warm drink and having a piece of pie. They also have rooms for rent which i've also heard are very nice. One day we plan to stay in one. They also have a place for smokers to go smoke without freezing there butts off. It's a heated room far enought away that it wont botter the non-smokers but close enougth where it's no inconvienent to walk to The only bad thing about getting up here is when it's snowing and your driving up steep steep hills. I love this place

Timberline Lodge Ski Area has the only year round ski season in North America!!! It is only closed for about 2 weeks in late September. It also is home to the longest continually run ski race in the country called the Golden Rose Ski Classic in June of every year. It is extremely well kept, beautiful area, and just gorgeous in the summer! There are over a thousand acres of skiing land and over 3500 feet of downhill land, the most in the Pacific Northwest! Obviously you can see why this is considered one of the most famous and well visited ski areas on the west coast!

PROS: Year round skiing!
CONS:

This is a must-see, must-do if you are in the Portland area. Timberline was built by the WPA in the depression area and is just a testiment to good old-fashioned common sense building. The common area in the lodge has a wonderfully wooden beamed area with a massive fireplace and cozy chairs. Check out the 2nd floor bar/lounge for a quick lunch or hot drink. The restaurant is more formal and has some excellent dinner fare. The rooms are not high class, but more bare bones rustic. Oh, and you have to go swimming in the outdoor pool during the winter. Make the dash for the water, but keep your head down lest icicles form on your eyelashes :-)

PROS: Rustic Resort with Outdoor Pool
CONS: rooms are not out of Architectural Digest if that's what you're looking for
