I took my dog who has hip dysplasia to doctor Ulbrich for the first time last year to manage her symptoms. I have been happy with the care that I received from Dr. Ulbrich and his staff.

After 4 short months of being on the treatments he reccommended, she has improved to a level where I am now able to maintain her improved state myself. It is really great to see my girl be able to run again without limping for days afterwards.

I was also really impressed by the wholistic appproach and have changed my dogs food and flea regime based on his reccommendations. I honestly didn't find him to be more expensive than other vets, but definately more effective.

I have been taking my dogs to Dr Schaeffer (used to be Mannette) for several years with good results. I like the body work she does and we have had good success with homeopathy and herbs.

The principles this clinic was founded on are superb. But, while I appreciate the modalities of medicine offered at this clinic, it is increasingly difficult to get an appointment or afford it. Four years ago I was paying $100 an hour willingly to be received by warm and compassionate staff who were knowledgeable about their craft. Now I am being asked to pay almost double to be treated superficially and often rudely by staff that seem to have just rolled out of the bed, are possibly hungover and know very little about the products they are selling. The new doctor spends a lot of time with us, but seems to feel guilty about the charges. The staff takes forever to check us in and check us out. Bottom line....the increased fees would be easier to swallow if customer service was increasing proportionately. We miss the old office manager and staff. Dr. Ulbrich should stop cutting corners and riding on the laurels that there are no other holistic vets for miles around, because this is becoming less true every year.

If you want to take the holistic approach, as opposed to the standard must-vaccinate-regardless, buy-your-pet-canned-food, then this is a good place to start. The vet talked about tittering, where they measure the number of antibodies, and only vaccinate where that level is too low. (Except for rabies, which is mandatory). We also liked the fact that he won't administer the entire vaccine dose. I mean why does a 14lb dog get the same dose as a 70lb dog? So he gives half or a third of the dose to smaller dogs. He also mentioned the benefits of a natural diet, which is useful if your pet has allergies, stomach ailments, etc.

PROS: Good place to start a holistic approach.
CONS: Initial consultation is pricier than regular vets.

This veterinarians here are really holistic and are very helpful with nutrition. They have many skills, from acupuncture to chiropractic, Chinese herbs, homeopathy, etc.

When my cat had been in a collision with a car and ended up with congestive heart failure from IV fluids in the ER, they saved him with herbs! The other vets who had seen the cat couldn't believe he survived, especially the cardiologist.

I had to give a one star raiting to publish this, but they should get none!! I took my Yorkie there to help give him a healthier and longer life, but instead he died a short few months later. I had all his records sent to them so they could review his health history because he had a collapsed trachea, hip dysplasia, congestive heart disease, and heart murmur. The first visit the Dr. gave him some holistic supplements, and the dog started feeling better. I made an appointment to take him back to have his teeth cleaned six months later. At that time I asked the Dr. to renew his heart meds. and he told me the dog did not need it anymore and was doing just fine. He said his heart mummer was gone. A couple of weeks later the dog started to have serious problems so I took him back and the first thing the Dr. did was check him for fleas!! I told him the Yorkie's tongue was blue and the whites of his eyes were blue. He said nothing to worry about and sent us home with more herbs!!! Later that evening the Yorkie got much worse so we took him to an emergency hospital where they told us the dog was in cardiac arrest and they tried their best to save him but by that time too much damage was cause and the dog died early the next morning. I would never recommend this clinic to anyone who has a pet with serious health problems.

Here's a few sentences of an e-mail I just finished writing to them about our horrible experience.

"...our older and larger cat, was uncooperative and nervous. Your vet told my girlfriend that she was holding Fluffy incorrectly (she was holding him by his scruff and with her free arm she wrapped it around his body and front legs) she then told her assistant to pin him down in a very awkward way and hold his mouth shut like you would an alligator, which only made Fluffy more uncomfortable. She never finished the check up."

"We also got absolutley no help with Max which was our main reason for coming in today. He had some brown build up in his ears and my girlfriend had cleaned up the majority of it with a q-tip the night before. Your vet told us not only did she not see anything but she had no information or helpful words to offer us on how to prevent ear bacteria in the future or how to identify natural wax from a potentionaly bad build up of bacteria."

"What we got was a half-assed check up on Fluffy, which was actually never fully completed yet we still paid full price ($30 because it was his second time). And absolutely no help with Max and his ear bacteria."

"I will never bring my pets into your clinic again, and I will also go out of my way to tell anyone and everyone that I know with a pet to never bring their animals to your clinic. I'm extremely disapointed with the service we received (or didn't receive) and your uneducated and imcompitent employees. You wasted our time and our money, both of which we have very little of."

Pros: Some employees were genuinely nice and helpful.. some...

Cons: Very poor help from the "professional" veterinarians
