Reviews for Wan Q Restaurant

Ratings_icons NOT EVEN REAL CHINESE FOOD

Atm a.

I started serving chinese food way back in 1985 at a very upscale restaurant. The first time i tried their food at Wan Q's i ordered kung pow chicken. Not only did it not taste like kung pow but i have never seen kung pow served with vegies in it. Next time you are there take a look around and count the number of chinese people you see eating there. If there is less then 80% then the food is no good. If you like good chinese food, PLEASE don't eat there.

Ratings_icons worst Chinese food & stale smoke smell to boot

Avoid this. No imagination, no service. No flavor. My husband and I usually like the "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurants & this one was awful. Hot and sour soup was neither. about 5 basic sauces that they filled the menu with by changing the meats. I wouldnt cross the parking lot to go here. You shouldn't either. I have no idea who wrote the good reviews, but I'm wondering if it was the owner.

We've been eating at this Chinese restaurant for the past 18 years and haven't found another that we like better. We enjoy the cozy atmosphere and dimmed lighting. Their food is always great and there's always some to pack up to take home. The wait staff are very friendly.

PROS: You Always Get Great Quality

Ratings_icons Worst Chinese food ever

My husband and I live in the Bethany neighborhood. We decided to try Wan Q for my birthday dinner. I'm not a Chinese food expert but good authentic Chinese is my favorite.
We got to the restaurant and the place was packed so we took a seat in the bar. The waitress was prompt and wonderfully friendly. I asked her about the house white wine and she made a face and shook her head. I ordered a drink instead. I ordered basic dishes to see how they did on the simple stuff. Honestly, We could have saved the money and went to Safeway for Chinese out of the Deli because the food at Wan Q was that bad. I'm pretty sure everything I ordered came out of a can. Everything was sweet, even if it wasn't suppose to be, and nothing had any spice, even if it was suppose to. Even the fried rice was crunchy and cold. I might go back for a drink in the bar at some point, but eating there again is out of the question.

Pros: service was very good

Cons: food was very bad

Ratings_icons Very friendly people, but lousy food!

Okay, I don't consider myself a food snob, but I have to say the one time we ate at this restaurant, *nothing* was good. I take that back ... our server was very friendly, and we were seated promptly. After that, everything went downhill. Three of us went, and none of us managed to order anything decent! The fried rice was old and crusty, and you couldn't cut through the sweet & sour pork to save your life. It left such a horrible taste in my mouth that two days later I was still grossed out. Had to go to another Chinese restaurant just to forget! Ordinarily, if I order something at a restaurant and it doesn't turn out well, I'll give it another go. I mean, you can have an "off" night. But each of us ordered a different dish, and all 3 (plus rice) weren't good at all. Overcooked, no flavor ... things that are staples at every Chinese restaurant were just not good at Wan Q, sadly.

Pros: Friendly service

Cons: Food was lousy

Ratings_icons Always very good food!

I've dined at this restaurant for 27 years now, and I declare myself an expert regarding their food. Since the new owners have taken over, the food is mostly consistent. The flavor is excellent, the pricing reasonable, and the quality is always very good. Once lately I've had tepid food, but only once in hundreds of dining experiences is a pretty good statement! I highly recommend.

Pros: Really good food

Cons: a few service people aren't as good as the best they have

Wan Q lounge has the very best spanish coffees in the neighborhood!! Add to those coffees their fried shrimp and the best value on steak and lobster in town. Yes, steak and lobster to die for at a chinese restaurant!!

Pros: friendly, & quick, video poker in bar, family restaurant

Cons: heavy smoking in bar

This is the third time I have been here, and it's probably the last. It's too far to drive for just average Chinese food. This is clearly a Chinese restaurant for Americans, with a low expectation, for how Chinese food should taste. The food is not bad. It's just not very good. The barbequed pork has a funny taste, not good. The portions are a little small, as compared to Chinese restaurants. The prices are about 30% higher, than a good Chinese place. The pork noodles are good, but small quantity. In the three times I have eaten here, the place was almost empty, even at the peak of the lunch hour. There is a much better Chinese restaurant, directly accross the street.

Pros: Parking is ok.
