Thinker Toys is not fun

The toys selection is average and the staff is not great with kids. My son was lining up a few stuffed animals on a bench while I was pondering a purchase and the worker scooped them up and through them back in the bin without even acknowledging us. Really rude. Needless to say I left without making a purchase and have not returned.

Last Minute Help

I called as they were closing and I was already late for a six year old's birthday party. They not only stayed open, but selected the gift and had it waiting for me.
They have a great selection and offer the customer service and personal care that you can't get at big box stores,
THANK YOU!

They don't bill themselves as "Portland's Most Hands-On Toy Store" for nothing: most of what they carry is on-hand and available for your kids to test out (though hopefully not destroy). Founded by a couple science teachers, this store might remind you more of a museum of science than a toy store, which is a good thing. Not as large as chains like Toys R' Us, it doesn't have to be, since this is a more personal experience.

Thinker Toys is a relatively small toy store in Multnomah Village. The location is great for browsing in the Village. The store tends to be crowded with both people and items. There is a good selection from dolls, dress-up, Thomas the Tank Engine, Melissa and Doug and Kettler Trikes.
One drawback is that they really don't have any of the toys out for the kids to try out first as so many other toy stores do. This store is also pretty crowded because of it's great location. I have never been offered assistance either the times I have shopped. There are other toy stores around (Mudpuddles for one) that have similar items/prices and better service. I for one want my son to be able to play with an item before we buy it, especially when the toy is $100.
PROS: selection
CONS: prices, service

It has been a year or so since I was in this place. The last time I was here the staff was rude and just plain snobby. They were not helpful at all. They acted like were were going to break or steal something in their dirty little store. This was the first and last visit. What a STINKER!!!!

Great independent toy store!

This welcoming little independent toy store is one that you should definitely visit if you long for quality, handcrafted, wooden toys rather than the plasticy offerings typically found at most large toy chains.
They have lots of great wooden toys for babies and young children, including wooden dollhouses, play kitchen items, and a variety of different educational supplies for building and creating. My kids love to play with the toys here and I love that they challenge them to use their brains!
The store is located in the quaint Multnomah Village area, within easy walking distance of lunch, coffee (both local and Starbucks), and a wonderful bookstore (Annie Blooms). It is a great place to spend a few hours of your day and take home a fun new toy to entertain your little ones.
