This place is lucky their desserts are delicious! We were told to sit and wait for our order to be taken once we knew what we wanted but It was uncomfortable to be asked to sit down and look at the drink menu when all my party was there

Fourth visit. This was to be our first time "to go." The over-tattooed "help" at the counter asked if it was here or to go and we both responded "to go." She said, "look in the case and then I'll come to your table to take your order."

Pros: desserts are good

Cons: overpriced, identity problem, always bad service

Lady behind the counter really copped an attitude. We paid for the 2 samples after dropping a couple hundred dollars on the order. No issue with this, although a "congratulations, thank you for your business, don't worry about the samples" would have been nice, but they charged our card, then lost the order. Complete idiots. We'll see if they can pull their collective act togethre long enough to come through . . . We've been working with them for 2 days to try and get the order placed again.

Pros: Great quality

The Shazam! is one of the best desserts I have ever had. I have not been disappointed by anything I have had here, and it has a nice after dinner atmosphere. I would go here everynight if I could!

This is the best dessert place ever. The desserts are artistically and wonderfully made. The pricing seems high until one bite is consumed and the richness of flavors slams your palette. A must go place in Portland.

We have had a great experience with PIX. Everything is awesome! We did have one bad experience at xmas we ordered the coffee log cake. It was not their usual quality and the flavor was off. This was not typical.. so we called. The immediately gave us a gift card and invited us back! We have yet to use that but are anxious to get back in there... You really can't go wrong with any dessert from this place. The homemade ice cream is also fantastic!

Cons: busy, loud, not very many seats

I agree, the service isn't great. It's sometimes a hassle to get anybody's attention. And yes, sometimes the cakes can be a little on the dry side. But they have a great beer selection, and I'll continue going just for the macarons. Convenient area, too.

Honestly, I have never written a review before, but I have never felt more compelled to complain of my service. I fell in love with Pix on Division years ago and was excited to see that Pix had arrived in our N. Portland neighborhood. When my partner, daughter and I finally got around to venturing in for a late night desert and coffee, I was looking forward to the same sweet experience I had had in SE. I couldn't have been more disappointed. I would echo many of the same complaints of other customers. I was made to feel like an idiot for perusing the display case. When we sat down to order, my tart was practically slammed down on to the table, no silverware, water, etc. The waitress was very abrupt with us and took forks and food off the table before we were done with them. I understand it was busy, but we were paying customers and had hoped to spend a good twenty minutes languishing over our deserts, coffee and conversation. Instead, our bill came 10 minutes after being served and when we didn't get up right away, the waitress had the nerve to come to our table and say, "Didn't I give you your bill and pick up your payment? Yeah, ok, that's what I thought." We were disgusted and her attitude definitely worked, we got up and left and will never return.
I'm a "hipster" myself and won't rag on hipster attitudes, but if you're in the service industry, you need to stop and think about the atmosphere that you are creating and what your patrons are hoping to experience. It sounds like she (or maybe there are others) is ruining this experience for several people. I'm surprised it was so busy!

What a pleasant surprise I found Pix to be, I can't wait to go back! We went there for New Year's Eve and though it was busy, we received excellent service, the staff was top notch and the artichoke panini was to die for! I can't wait to go back and try out some desserts!

Too crowded, uncomfortable seating. Too few real choices. The cakes are not moist enough. Too many hazelnut options. Everything is hazelnut. Not enough other real choices. Ice cold milk (even fat free) should be a staple. Over hyped.

My wife and I recently moved to Portland two years ago. we have been trying to find the time to make it to pix for a romantic evening. Well we had our anniversary dinner the other night and since the kids had grandma we decided to drop in for sweets. OH MY GOSH!!!! I honestly have no clue what others are saying about this place, it is really just heavenly. Our waiter(I think his name was Eric) was more then helpful and very nice. He helped us wade through the immense selection and even recommended two dessert wines that we had never even heard of. THE EVENING WAS YUMMY. We received excellent service and thoroughly enjoyed the desserts.
I am so glad we made the time to go to pix because it is just a great place, hopefully it wont be two more years until we return.
If you go get the shazam or the lemon tart they are both divine!!!!!!

I fell in love with Pix upon moving to Portland a few years ago, I relished their flavorful creations and dreamed up reasons to frequent them. Now I'm having serious doubts. I recently brought my sister-in-law there. When our desserts arrived, the Jane Avril had a portly fruit fly stuck to the top layer, which I deftly removed before she noticed. The Jane Avril cake layers were tasteless, gummy and rubbery, resisting the fork. My Amelie had seen better days & didn't have the pungency of times before, it simply tasted overly sweet. I wanted to give Pix the benefit of the doubt and shrugged it off, no one is perfect all the time, why a patisserie? This last time was worse. I've often observed the bizarre flow at the NE location. People crowd the case, eventually they're told to take a seat, eventually a waiter appears, or alternatively, people take a seat, expect to be waited on and then have to go up to the case to look at the desserts and hunt down a waiter. Well, I wanted to be helpful so I alerted a waiter behind the case that I was sitting down outside, as the sign on my table had indicated that I do. She said she would be with me shortly, no one came by to ask my drink order. 10 minutes went by, I felt forgotten, so I went up to the case again and explained that I was still waiting. I was asked if I had told someone I was there, and was asked if I had asked the right person: the lead waiter, which I had. I was told they were busy and that they would get to me. I said okay& I just hope you don't forget about me! Then the waitress said, oh, well, fine, I guess I can wait on you now (as I made my way to the table) When I got to the table she accusingly said: You don't have water yet? No, not yet...I got the Royale, which was a stale dome of chocolate-colored mousse covered in a rubbery skin of chocolate ganache. Oh, the disappointment! Don't go there if you expect service under a reasonable time frame! Beware the stale desserts!

My husband took me to Pix on N. Williams after our anniversary dinner, and we had high expectations. We walked in and began perusing the display case to see what we might want. The girl behind the counter asked if we were getting something to go or staying - when we told her we were staying, she told us to take a seat anywhere and someone would come to our table and help us. I felt like we weren't "allowed" to look at the display! (My sister had a similar experience at the Pix on Division - why have a display case if you don't want people looking at it!!!! At least put pictures on the menu!) We obediently took our seats and someone did come by with drink menus and water, but then NO ONE came back for at least 15 minutes (and the place was not that busy - plenty of open tables). Meanwhile, I took a trip to the bathroom, slowing down in front of the display case to catch a passing glimpse of the seemingly forbidden desserts. Finally, just as we were about to leave, someone asked us - "oh, have you been helped?" The dessert I ordered was good, but the experience was lacking. I would definitely give Pix a 2nd chance, but I just felt like I had to write down my displeasure with last night's service!!!

I came to pix several times and sampled various concoctions before discovering their heavenly macaroons which seem to come in rotating flavors, all of them equally delicious. Unfortunately I have to echo some of the sentiments here that other desserts do not live up to their price tag, however the macaroons sure do. Make sure you get them to go though because this place seems to be run by indifferent hipsters who scoff and get upset when you interrupt their novel reading by coming into the store.

I went to Pix expecting slightly pricey, but to-die-for desserts. We tried three different items, with a total of around $18. The service was OK. The girl attending to us was nice enough, but moved at a snail's pace while putting our small order together. Sadly, the desserts did not live up to the expectations I had for them, and were definitely not worth the money we paid. The portions were so small that the dessert was gone before my palate had adjusted to the taste. I won't be returning to Pix.

Horrible service!!!! we walked out without ever being spoken to. They cleared our table, then brought us some tepid water in dirty glasses after waiting WAY too long. Sorry! were we not cool and hipster enough? Too bad for you, we're EXCELLENT tippers.

I've came back and tried almost all the dessert at this place since it's down the block from my house. My favorite is still the royale with cheese, everything else was too sweet for me(instant cavity). Their truffles are good they are made the traditional french way, their mango friut pate is refreshing when they have it in season. Otherwise a chill place to stop by and have a cup of coffee. I've still yet to try their Carmen Miranda, they always run out then I go there.

I've never had anything here but their chocolates and to be honest - the waiter could have been on fire and i'd have not noticed as i was with friends and we were making our own fun. The chocolates were wonderful and unusual. I cannot remember what my friends tried, but they loved everything and i think one of them did in fact have the hot chocolate someone else besmerges on this site.

I've only been to the hawthorne locale and i've found it a fun little corner for a quick sweet treat, but maybe my expectations were not too high

My first (and last) time at pix was an utter disaster. I was so excited to try it out as I had heard great things about their desserts. I went on a date, and we were seated promptly...and then forgotten. When the surly, holier-than-thou waiter finally deigned to notice us, we had been sitting over 30 minutes without even a glass of water. My creme brulee was torched at the table, and while it did have some flair, the end result was burned in most places, but still raw sugar in others. Ick. We had to get up from our table to request coffee after dessert, and when the check was delivered half-way through our cup of coffee, the waiter asked us "To hurry up and finish because other people were waiting" Seriously? The only thing slow about our table was the glacial service, and there were only 3 people waiting. No thanks. I'll never return.

This is a cosy little spot, a bit run down, a little funky (considering the prices for the sweets!) but a romantic spot, if you want to be left alone, and don't care for a fashion show of uptown proportions.

My only plea: Stay away from the Hawthorne location of Pix (their newest, which does not yet have its own review on CitySearch): This is Pix's Black Hole- since its inception, acouple of years ago, consistently staffed by surly, or indifferent, but always aloof and incompetent, service personel. And if you believe, like me, that Pix serves the second best Hot Chocolate in town (after Cacao on SW 13th) don't bother at the Hawthorne location! It's plain awful, and way worse than at New Seasons (which I thought could not be topped until I went to Hawthorne.)

Pros: Cosy, romantic, good deserts

Cons: Deserts are overpriced for their quality

.

The popularity of Pix speaks more to the dearth of good pastries in Portland than anything else. Many of these desserts look the way they should, but are a disappointment when it comes to taste. The Big CherylsGhetto cake was probably the worst thing I have ever had here. It was rubbery, tough, and bland. The Amelie had some very nice flavors of chocolate and orange, but the pieces of praline crisp were a bit of a shock in a jaw-breaker way, because they were huge and hard. This dessert would have been delightful if the praline pieces had been finer, providing a subtle crunch instead of a jolt. The Jane Avril, which includes raspberry mousse and pistachio cake, sounded wonderful, but ended up being quite bland. The presentation here is always wonderful, and I would happily pay the high prices if the desserts lived up to the expectation. Oddly enough, two of my favorite things from pix are the least beautiful. I buy the pixies on a regular basis. The pixie is a pistachio bar with almond paste and raspberry jam. It is simple and delicious. The macarons at pix, especially the creme de cassis ones, give the Parisian ones a run for their money.

I went in not knowing what to expect. Well actually, I went in expecting great desserts and snobby crappy service. I was wrong about the latter. I didn't get his name, but my friends and I, walked in about the time some police officers where outside asking a man to move on as he was loitering and once we went in, the server was pretty busy. As we were looking at the menu, he was handling some irate teenagers who were angry about something. He was being very apologetic and calm. Turns out these little brats where upset with him because he would serve one of them alcohol with his fake id.

The server was friendly and not worried that we had come in a half hour before closing. He kept a smile and made us feel welcome...as if we were old friends. I go on and on about the service because I find many places here with terrible miserable people giving you a terrible miserable experience. I've been in the service industry for over 15 years, so when I find a place which has a good product AND good service, I make sure to spread the news. If we had gone in and the food was good but the service was snotty, rude, too-cool for school, and such, I would have never gone back. I've just had it with bad service and have made a very black and white stance on the whole issue....even if a place allows even one bad server/barista/cashier...whatever.

Enough about that. The desserts were obviously rocking and thecoffee was excellent. It was expensive. Whatever. You know what you're getting into. I recommend getting vanilla ice cream on your Queen of Sheba Truffle Cake when offered. Will be back! Thanks Awesome Pix Server!

Pros: desserts, service, late night

Cons: small uncomfortable stools...I don't care how small your butt is

.

The Division location trumps the Hawthorne one, especially if you can grab a table in the late afternoon. The service is usually good and as long as they're not "out" of everything, it's a very pleasant experience to dine here. The beer is particularly good but steer clear of the bacon/ham sandwich; it made me sick later on. Their trademark is the Goat Cheese/Onion Tart and their variety of chocolates, of course. The Shazam isn't bad, either. Overall, good. Somewhat pricey, but good.

Deliscioso treats in abundance. There was so much to choose from eventually you just have to wing it. They nicely pair deserts with liqures and coffees to really round out the evening. Sit indoors or on the sidewalk when the weather is nice. Friendly atmosphere and fabulous suggestions.

Pros: Beautiful and Deliscious

Cons: Limited Seating

I love this patisserie. Perhaps, it is because I am obsessed with anything French. Perhaps, it is because the thought of doing nothing, but sitting around all day eating desserts from this place makes me rather content. No, it is because this little gem of a place, w/ its decor and delicacies, is a little jolt of sugar-laden joy. Prices are reasonable for what you get. On summer evenings, there may be a bit of a wait, as the Division location is rather small. But there is a new Williams location, so the problem is solved.

I have been to Pix on Division 2 delectable times. The first was after dinner at Lauro across the street and the second was for an afternoon chocolate fix. The after dinner event was wonderful, we had a split of a delicious dessert wine ($15) and berry creme brulee and a uber moist chocolate on chocolate cake. The afternoon event was equally wonderful. I ordered some type of mango wonderfulness and then asked if I could get a hazelnut espresso. My waiter said they didn?t have that on the menu, but would see what he could do. I had no idea he would put hazelnut cream in my espresso to make it lke a dessert upon itself.

Pros: a sweet-lovers dream come true

Cons: small size

The Sheba cake must be the most fantastic creation in all of Portland. I love this place. They also have beer floats. Chocolate ice cream in dar dark beer. Yum.

My sister told me about this place called Pix, she said they surved their deserts with shreds of gold on it. I'm not sure if i believe her, so i guess i need to go check it out for myself and fined out....

I stopped bye with a friend after dinner. It was great to find such a cool place open. I have the Royale - they were out of cheese- and a latte. It was very good. If I lived in the neighborhood I would go often and I plan to stop bye when I near. However, I would not drive in from Vancouver just to visit Pix. The selction was great and the atmosphere was the best! I would love to hang out here if I were closer.

Pros: Selection, Quality, Late Night Hours

Cons: Limited Coffee Bar

.

Four of us had dessert there last night. We sampled six different desserts. The lemon tarts were wonderful - although the crust was fairly difficult to cut through. The creme brule was very nice. Two others were so-so and the other two? Not so much. Our first cups of coffee were barely half filled and we had to ask a couple of times, and many minutes of empty coffee cups later, for refills. It was an average experience. While we may stop in again, I can't imagine going out of our way to go there.

This is my second review of Pix. We have now been to the Divison store and the new store on Hawthorne (next door to Pastaworks) at least 10 times. It seems that they do more business at the Divison store, as the pasteries at the Hawthorne store sometimes seem a bit stale. Both my wife and I both still love the place, but the fact that Petite Provence on Division has excellent pasteries (and the best almond croissants in the city) at half the price makes that a place we visit far more frequently.

This place has desserts to die for - expecially if you like chocolate. The Concorde is so very yummy. It's a great place to have dessert and coffee on a date night. I got a small taste of an onion tart once and been meaning to go back and order one. Haven't been there for lunch yet but I'm looking forward to it.

The time I ate at Pix on Division I really enjoyed the unique desserts. Another time I got the individual chocolates and they were excellent. However my most recent trip to the N. Williams site
was not pleasant as the place was overcrowded and noisy. Service is affable but very rushed and pressured. The desserts LOOK great but they don't taste great. They are overpriced too. Very cramped seating.

The chocolate desserts were yummy, but were they worth the inflated prices and clausterphobia-inducing crowd? My vote is no. Getting a table was not a problem, flagging down a server was more difficult. The place was so crowded we could barely move; perched on our bar stools I was afraid of being knocked off of. The desserts were beautifully presented and creatively named, but priced about $2 a bite. I expect a lot more of service and customer comforts at these prices, the cramped and kookie atmosphere did not live up to my expectations.

It's too bad that the folks below me had such bad service. Our server was awesome! He recommended some great drinks to match with our dessert that we never would have tried otherwise (raspberry beer and blackberry izze). I was so glad to find another cafe/ restaurant that stays open late! We were here around 11:00pm. We did find a table, but they were still quite busy. I didn't find the dessert to be any better than other popular dessert places, but the ambience was definitely more my style (young, hip, and unpretentious).

I have to say that the service we experienced at Pix Patisserie in North Portland was bad. Our waiter, dark haired girl with big gaps in her teeth was extremely rude. She was very unpleasant from the start and literally scolded us for taking a chair from an open table. I'm sorry, did she prefer that 1 of us stand while several seats remained open? She was just very miserable to deal with. We had to ask another waiter for a chair and thankfully she took over. What kind of business allows staff to treat customers like that? They really need to evaluate this. The desserts are very good. Unfortunately, I think that the owner needs to realize that if they have that level of service, customers will not come back. It is really the customers that keep businesses open, not the unpleasant wait staff. I am not high maintenance at all, we go out to restaurants all the time, I just couldn't believe that we had service like this. I was just very disappointed, especially since we went there for a birthday celebration.

Rude and dirty is not the same thing as eccentric, something Portland hipsters have a hard time grasping.

The Pix is always a hotspot on weekend nights, I usually order dessert to go; it's a great place to stop by on the way home after dnner. The desserts are very tasty, rich, and have a great visual appeal. I like the "Jubilee," but everything I've had there has been great. A great date spot.

This proprietor presents a unique offering with creativity, skill and charm. My friends and I have tried all but a few menu items with consistently luscious results. Go early for the best confection selection, easiest seating and most attentive service, but you're not going to find a sweeter late night spot even if it gets crowded.

For those having recently deboarded the spaceship, welcome to Portland. Expect rain, the high cost of living, OLCC regulations and surly-yet-amicable service all over town. You're prolly going to feel better as soon as you have some ganache!

Pix is my favorite dessert place in town, it is, indeed, like stepping into a small cafe in Europe. On my first visit, I had the dobros torte, which was interesting, but not my thing. The recommended sherry was excellent, however. The last time we went, we asked our extremely friendly waitress for recommendations. I would suggest this as the staff is very knowledgable and all have their favorites. We tried the menage a trois tart, which was incredibly delicous, with the tawny port wine, which was also great. For my birthday this past spring, a friend brought me a couple of their treats boxed up, unfortunately, I don't know which ones they were since they were already boxed when I got them. One was a tropical fruit mousse-like concoction and the other was like a cream puff, both were terrific.

This is worth every penny and more! I find it completely reasonable to pay $6 for the unique and indescribably, perfect melody of flavors each little dessert packs in. It gets really crowded in that little place when the after-dinner crowd shows up, so be prepared to stand or get your dessert to go.

Pix Patisserie is a really fun place to take those you love, for some really amazing desserts, good music, and good ambience. The desserts never disappoint and the staff has always been very friendly. Sometimes it hurts to drop $6 for a little pastry, although I suppose a taste of heaven is worth it.

Where do I begin? Their desserts are divine and reasonably priced. I personally love the Amelie ( a creme brule covered in chocolate). There is always something interesting to look at in there. It is decorated with such eclectic charm and to top it off the service is wonderful! Great date place!

Upon reading several of the reviews of Pix on this site, I felt at once compelled to add my opinion. Pix and Papa Haydn should not be compared, as their concepts of dessert are quite different! Pix is a European patisserie with beautifully crafted morsels of rich sweetness not typically found on this side of the Atlantic. My husband and I have literally tried each of the creations at least once. I can not say enough about the Royale with cheese! I particularly enjoy the Dim Sum evenings as well (roughly once every 4-6 weeks, check the website), as you have the opportunity to have smaller portions of several desserts all in one night!
