Belmont Academy is a great school. We really love it. Our son has been there for preschool, prek, kinder, and the after school program. The teachers are very friendly, caring and well-informed on the ages they teach. The kindergarten had a small class size that was perfect for our son. With all that is going on with class sizes and budget cuts at Portland Public this Belmont is a nice alternative. We felt it was worth the money to stay there for kindergarten. We recommend Belmont Academy for childcare and kindergarten. Our only small concern was the menu. It was kid friendly, but wish they had more fresh fruit and vegetables. Also, the buildings are old, but at the same time charming so really not a big deal. The teachers and staff are why we were so happy with the school as well as our son and that was the most important thing to us.

My kids attended Belmont Academy after school and all summer for over nine years. They have formed wonderful friendships with the other children and staff, and we consider Belmont part of the family. True, it is a little funky looking, but so what? If you look around, the kids are HAPPY. Also, the diversity, sense of community, and practically non-existent staff turnover created a wonderful environment for my kids. Though we've moved away, my son can't wait to go back for summer camp, and my daughter can't wait to work there as soon as she's old enough. Gary, Claudia, Kim, Holly, to name a few, are all wonderful people who will truly care about your kids and your family.

Our child has been attending Belmont Academy for over eight years. The experienced staff has always been great and very loving towards our child. The directors and teachers have always been very open and more than willing to communicate with the parents for any reason.
The thing we love the most about Belmont Academy is the sense of community amongst the children. They really care about each other and look out for each other. Our child has been lucky to have older kids be mentors to him, and in return, our child is very loving toward the kids younger than him.
All in all, we have been very satisfied with Belmont Academy and we definitely intend to keep our child with them until he can no longer go (6th grade). The folks at Belmont are really like family to us.

Claudia, Gary and the staff are fantastic, they treat us like we're family. We were pleasantly surprised when we sent our kids to Belmont Academy, it's a true SE gem. The staff are conscientious, our kids are really happy and they're challenged by the curriculum. There's plenty of extra-curricula activities too, dance, gymnastics, field trips and vacation camps. You and you're kids will enjoy the community here.

My children are in their 4th year at Belmont Academy. It has been an excellent learning and social environment. They have excelled academically and are extremely well adjusted. The curriculum is well rounded, there are regular field trips and the student-teacher ratio is very low. It's like being part of an amazing extended family.

This school is the best daycare/school I could ever hope for, my kids have had a lot of fun here. The teachers are personable and really look out for the kids. Belmont Academy is a down to earth place, it's not a pretentious school like many others we looked at, there is real community here.
My son says, " I like doing the cool art projects and science experiments". My daughter says, "I love the Jazz dance class, and I love Miss Audra (the dance teacher)".

Pros: A really comfortable place

We went for a tour when my son was about a year old. Infants are in a basement, crawling on a dilapidated smelly carpet. No signs of anybody playing with them. Very depressing, dark atmosphere. Small yard at the intersection of two busy streets with all the noise and pollution that comes with that.

Speaking as an educator and mom, please send your child elsewhere! This day care is not staffed by qualified, competent staff. They often bring their personal problems to work with them and discuss very inappropriate things around the children. Very little planning goes into daily curriculum and there was very little regard or respect for the children's individual needs. I would stay far away from this establishment and go where the staff have integrity and where a warm, supportive, developmentally appropriate environment is created. This is NOT that place!

We love Belmont Academy. Our daughter has been there since preschool and has had wonderful teachers who are very qualified and caring. It is a comfortable place with a cozy, homey feeling. We our very happy with the school. We have gone to preschool, prek, kinder, and summer camp. It has been just wonderful. We feel our daughter has been very well cared for and learned alot! We highly recommend Belmont Academy and disagree with the previous review about the staff. They are all great - kind and confident in child development and appropriate ways to deal with children.

One good thing about Belmont -- staff longevity. They keep folks for some time. Bad part is their best staff, or ones better educated in early childhood, aren't the ones who stay around. Director is too old school for today's environment. Not a bad place if you're looking for stability in staff, but quality isn't quite up to snuff.
