I read the reviews but attempted to sell some items and check out this location. Waste of my time.

Doesn't matter the quality or brand name if it isn't hipster they don't want it.

I'm shocked, I had numerous items of quality including 2 brand new Armani items with tags that they refused.

Apparently if it isn't faded and looks like it came out of your granny's closet, they don't want.

Save the time and energy, go elsewhere.

I have tried to sell merchandise to this store twice. Last month I brought in 3 pairs of new addias tennis shoes and was told there was a surplus of tennis shoes in the store?

Today I brought 2 pairs of jeans in the store. They had no holes or tears in them. I was told by the sale clerk that they were a little worn and not slim cut or a darker color? Naturally, they are going to be worn since they are used???

Brought new merchandise and was turned down. Brought in good shape jeans size 12 and was turned down??

I feel Buffalo Exchange needs not be so ridgid when buying mechandise. Not all women can fit in slim cut jeans or want to wear a darker color? Need be more open minded.

Pros: Friendly staff

I'm glad that there's a BuffEx up the street from me. Selection is good, but since it's smaller than Hawthorne, yadda yadda. One person was a little offputting, but it's bound to happen in this town. Everyone else for the most part is friendly. The men's dressing rooms are not substantial, unlike the women's.

To the girl accusing BE of being racist, maybe you shouldn't bring in generic mall clothes next time.

Cons: Cramped, crowded, and smaller than Hawthorne

i always find something special here and for a low price. it's a great place for retail therapy!! i can find some really unique items here.

sometimes i feel like they look at me before even looking at the clothes i'm going to resell. i guess it's like a job interview-dress to impress they are your client at that point they are shopping from you..but, i still don't really like that aspect of it.

Pros: more diverse selection than a typical store

Cons: they rarely buy my clothes when reselling

Though not as heraled as the Buffalo on Hawhthorne, this downtown location seems more dependable to me. I always have good luck both buying and even selling used clothes there. Not super into the new clothes they have for women, but some of the new items for men are nice. Great purses and scarves as well, also hip shoes (like boots and flats) in many many sizes. Jewelry selection is sort of cheesy but if you are into costume jewelry and fake gold, this could be your thing. Employees are nice and not intimidating or too hip to talk to you.

I first discovered this glorious clothing and accessory store a few years back on a romp through the downtown area. Now,I've been to a few cute stores before, and I love them dearly, but I have to say that Buffalo Exchange on Burnside is my absolute top pick.
It's the first place I go to when I'm downtown and I never leave empty handed.
They have a great selection of clothes there, really great fashions and I even found a brand new pair of designer jeans for 42 bucks, that were retailed at 180 dollars! I really recommend shopping here.

This place would be great if they replaced the IGNORANT staff. They seem to stiff anyone that doesnt have white skin. Maybe they should hire someone ethnic to add some sense and flare to this place! Other than looking like 80's grunge/punk groupies, the staff doesnt have a clue. I brought in a bag of mostly brand new items from places like Banana Republic and Gap, most still had the tags on them but of course since I am not the same skin color as them, they didnt take a single item. Thanks but no thanks. Better selection, service and value across the street at Red Light.

Buffalo functions as my closet. I'll run in if there's something I need, and I'll take clothes I'm no longer wearing there. Everything is well priced, great condition, organized--and it's rare that I leave empty-handed. Fun stuff, well made, seasonal...and they support others in need.

And their biggest asset: the staff is friendly (they all remember my name, even if I haven't been in for a while), professional, clear, honest if you ask 'does this work?', and upbeat.

I'm an advocate of recycling and buying used, so this resale clothing store appeals to that side of this mom/baby boomer. I can barely get my teen to step foot in Goodwill, however, she thought Buffalo Exchange was "awesome." This store caters to the younger crowd looking for a hip bargain or vintage. It's Goodwill fashion slapped in a downtown location, but the kids seem to love it. Hey, I'm all for saving money and buying used.

PROS:
CONS: can be crowded on weekends

Buffalo Exchange is a resale clothing store that specializes in name brand clothing, trendy, retro and funky styles. You can find everything from mainstream Gap, Banana Republic and Levi's to more funky brands that I quite frankly don't know where to find in regular retail. The clothing is in great shape with lots of styles to please, everything is well organized by size too. Shopping here is fun if you like shopping for clothes to be like a treasure hunt and like to dress with personality. You can find good quality plain ol' jeans here too. Shopping resale clothing is always an adventure but at Buffalo Exchange I always find something fun to bring home.

PROS: Fun clothes
CONS: parking can be tricky during peak hours, street parking only

So I have some clothes that i don't wear anymore, but i don't want to throw them away beacause they're nice clothes and I only wear them very few times. I saw the Buffalo Exchange under consignment shop in the yellow pages and i give them a call. turn out, it was close to my place of work, downtown portalnd. So I call them and they said they'll take my clothes and sell them for me (at first, i have no idea what consignment mean, I just guess i has something to do with donations) and i would get 50% of the profit, they'll get the other 50. sound great. i turn in all my clothes, most are brandnames. At the end of the week, the store call me and said that two of my items was gone. how great is that? they said i can come pick up the check now or i can wait to get it in full when all my other items are sold. I can't believe I was able to get rid of my junks and still get money for it. Thanks

The Buffalo Exchange is a fun store to browse through if you enjoy poking around looking for bargains and your taste in clothing runs to the eclectic. For the most part, their items are "pre-loved" and vintage, but there are some new things as well, most with a retro-feel.

The prices are pretty good here - you can definitely find some great deals. The quality of the items are quite good, better than I have found at many other consignment or thrift stores in the local Portland area.

If you're looking for some fun and hip "new to you" clothes, this is well worth checking out.

The indier-than-thou staff can leave you a little cold, and the racks are filled with their visions of fashion-at-the-moment. The store could use a more diverse selection, but on the plus side, you can easily find good brands in good condition at utterly reasonable prices. Their womens' jeans section tops out at twelve with a scant few offerings for anyone larger than that, though tiny pants fight for space in the lower ranks. Too, the larger shirts and sweaters tend toward the dowdy and shabby, which is disappointing.

The Buffalo Exchange is located in downtown Portland off of Burnside and is a trendy alternative to shopping at the Goodwill or Value Village. They sell vintage and gently-used merchandise that includes popular fashions and shoe apparel. You can find real bargains and walk out with some unique items.

This place is great for selling AND buying. Check out the one on Hawthorne too. I love the clothes, and especially the shoes. One man's trash is another man's treasure!

They usually have a wide variety of consignment clothing for men and women. If you have a limited budget then this is the place to find a great deal. If you are on the smaller side, they have a lot more choices and quality items. You can bring in your old clothes to sell back to them and recieve money or a credit. Fun.

Their selection of used or "vintage" clothing is diverse and underpriced for the most part. You could probably find something you'd adore for less than you'd expect to pay...Nice feature eh? On more than one occasion I have attempted to purchase an item only to have a staff member tell me that there is another item just like the one I have, only priced slightly less...and then they retrieve it for me!!!
Great place!!

A very busy new-age consignment shop that buys and sells new and used clothing. Sell back all of your designer clothing, shoes and accessories, and get a discount off of your next purchase or cold, hard cash. Find some unique pieces on their t-shirt racks and be sure to look at their jeans section

Like single speed bicycle enthusiasts and religious ascetics, hardcore retro shoppers know that the best path is the one that hurts the most. That's why true indie cred only awaits the thrift store shopper: the apparel junkie who is willing to dig through junk for treasure.

For the rest of us, there are used clothing stores like Buffalo Exchange. They pay people to dig through junk, and the shopper reaps the benefits. This particular store is B.E.'s newest. Compared with the more popular store on SE 37th, the Burnside location is pretty small. Pickings are slim--particularly in men's clothing, a section in which you will frequently pick through the same shirts for weeks on end before finding new inventory.

And by the way, you're paying the wages of the people B.E. hires to sift through junk: prices at these stores are much higher than thrift stores. (You expected them to find you the cool clothes at no additional cost?)

One more tip: check the tag before you try on the clothes. B.E. often mixes new (and appropriately priced) items in with the used stuff. You know that once you try it on, you may fall in love with it--and once that happens, you're done for. So if the tag reads thirty bones, why try it on in the first place?

PROS: Central location, good shoe selection, gender-separated dressing rooms
CONS: Clothing selection is slim, parking is nonexistent

Even a novice when it comes to fashion could easily become the hippest, counter-culture frontman with a few items from this store. One can exchange well-taken care of items for store credit or money and the employees only accept what's truly incredible so the selection is fabulous. The female section is more bounteous than the male but both are great. New finds each week from alligator boots, pretty embroidered peasant tunics to Wheezer t-shirts--something certainly to please everyone. Going to the store is a delight, I fall in love over and over again. Although prices are cheaper than a store at full-price, often-times the new store's sale rack is cheaper but when you find that amazing piece it's worth it, plus recycling clothes is earth-friendly!

I can usually always find something worth buying at the Buffalo Exchange. There aren't a lot of hardcore vintage items here, but decent used stuff. Some items are incredibly overpriced, but overall, not too bad. It can be crowded on the weekends, I tend to avoid!
Also, I haven't had much luck with selling my own clothing items there. Typically, they won't take any of it. But, other places will.
