There is no doubt that Cascade Summit Animal Hospital delivers good care. But, I must agree with the many other complaints about this animal hospital - you end up paying for someone's mortgage payment when your pet isn't even sick.

That is the difference I am talking about here. If your pets ARE your children and cost does not matter - then, by all means... pay one of the Dr.'s mortgage payments each time your pet is not in "tip top shape". But, if you value your pet as a member of your family that does fall somewhere below your human children in priority... then find another vet.

My cat had a claw that had "punctured" the pad on her foot. After I really took a look at it - I would say it was like my son falling off of his bike and skinning his knee. Before I knew what happened - my bill included $250 in antibiotics and "flora" (to put the digestive system back in balance after those nasty antibiotics). This was after bringing my cat in for a $25 nail trim. This was the same cat that had $750 worth of dental work and teeth pulled. The same 10 year old cat that needed extensive blood work to determine if she had a heart abnormality (luckily I decided that if she had not had a heart attack by now... my odds were pretty good.) Finally, I got my head together and did not succumb to the incessant guilt wrap of "your pet is in pain and you are not going to do anything about it". My kid was in pain when he fell off of his bike - but it did not require a large chunk of his college fund to fix it. It required a band-aid!

Anyways... it became a chore to have to decifer if what they were "prescribing" was really needed.

We have not been back since.

I am very grateful to Cascade Summit Animal Hospital and I cannot recommend them highly enough. My dog sees Chris for grooming, who is excellent and very reasonably priced. We see Dr. Lawson for my dog's routine care and recently for a surgery, which turned out even better than expected. Dr Lawson is a caring and compassionate provider, who really takes the time to listen, understand and advise. She is interested in every aspect of my dog's well-being and gives her the necessary care to help her live to her fullest potential. I always regraded myself as the perfect pet owner, but Dr. Lawson was quick to point out that I was giving her too many chicken treats and needed to change her food to something better suited for her. The food that Dr. Lawson recommended was half the price of the designer food that I was buying and her blood work improved dramatically after the change. All of her suggestions are clearly made with my dog's best interest in mind, and unlike other people who have commented here, nothing that Dr. Lawson or Cascade Summit have recommended seem to be "extras" to pad their pockets...in fact, most things they have recommended have to do with lifestyle changes, not tests or surgeries or stuff they sell. True, they have recommended this recent and very important surgery as well as some preventative shots (over and above the routine shots) and annual dental cleanings, but why shouldn't they? Do you feel like your doctor is trying to pad their pockets when you are sick and they order a panel of tests? I sure hope not. I think that unfortunately, most people who post reviews are upset, and maybe rightfully so. But if all of the happy Cascade Summit Vet customers took the time to review them, I'll bet this site would overflow with positive feedback. I can't speak to Dr. Ortner's care, but I would strongly recommend Dr. Lawson to anyone. You won't be disappointed!

Dr. Ortner has been caring for our two cats in excess of 2 years. She is a caring and very professional vet. We have had nothing but the best of care from Dr. Ortner and I would not even think of going to another clinic.

I can't say enough good about this outfit. The caring support from each and every person that we interacted with there was both genuine and right on the mark. Their care of our cat (and the cat's Mom, part of the challenge too I must admit) was exemplary in every way; and when it came time to provide a necessary and timely assist across to Rainbow Bridge, all was done with sensitivity, support and kindness. Not the cheapest - but certainly the best. I will be eternally grateful to them.

Sad to say, but I think Cascade Summit Vets are more concerned about their pocketbook than your pet. Each time I took my dogs there, they performed unnecessary tests, charged large amounts and my dog left no better than when we went in. For over a year, my dog suffered with diarrhea and weight loss; no diagnosis, but plenty of tests and bills. Once I went to an appointment and had a $25.00 charge before I walked in the door as I was charged for the doctor calling us with a test result! Thousands of dollars later and no real help for our dog, we changed vets. The new vet knew immediately that our dog was suffering from a classic problem of older dogs. She prescribed an antibiotic for the bowels, Pepcid and an appetite stimulant and in two weeks time, our dog has had no further diarrhea, has gained weight, and acts like a puppy again!
Though Cascade Summit appears to be a professional vet clinic, it is just a facade to gain access to your checkbook. I will never take my animals back to Cascade Summit.
