In 1979, Huber's celebrated its 100th anniversary of continuous operation. During this year, Huber's was also designated a historic landmark on the local level as well as on the national level with the National Registry of Historic Places. The arched stained-glass skylight, the solid Philippine mahogany paneling, and the terraczo floor are original fixtures from 1911. So are the brass cash register behind the bar, the brass ship's clock above the door, as well as the pewter wine bucket and its silver wine stand.

In Short
This space allows regulars to choose their dining milieu. One side offers a cozy, understated atmosphere, while the other section provides a romantic setting with gothic, arched doorways and a vaulted stained-glass ceiling. Northwest cuisine dominates the menu with dishes such as the Gorgonzola filet mignon atop whipped potatoes and smoked-salmon fettuccine in basil-pesto sauce. The pork and grilled halibut are popular among the low-carb set. But dessert lovers save room for the bread pudding.

Key Points

  • Famous Coffee Drinks
  • Wonderful Prime Rib
  • Traditional Turkey

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - The famed Spanish coffee is a must. Each fiery ambrosial drink is prepared tableside by the dizzying hands of a talented bartender.
  2. When to Go - The bar on the old side offers a lively weekend and after-work scene. Go for the eye-candy but stay for the ambience.

Salad was a disaster

by jewelbeetle

Had lunch at Hubers yesterday. Unfortunately I ordered the Greek Salad which was a complete disaster. No resemblance to a Greek Salad at all - cardboard canned olives instead of Kalamata olives, some kind of honey/mustard dressing, instead of oil/spice/vinegar, lots of lettuce and almost no olives. I pointed this out to the waiter and he agreed 100% - said it was very americanized. However, service was excellent, and ambiance is pleasant. Good beer on tap.

Drinks to die for

by thesunshineking

I LOVE Hubers. They have the best Spanish coffee's on the planet!!!! Their appitisers are mouth watering. You can't go wrong by starting you evening out here. The lunch menu is good as well, but the drinks and atmosphere are the biggest benifits to Hubers.

Pros: Quality

Fun place if you love crowds and noise.

by chowhound369

It didn't bother us, though I think our 6-year old was overwhelmed by the above. The food was good, hearty fare -- the kind you'd expect in an American restaurant. We had the turkey dinner with crab cake appetizer, all delicious. The martinis were pretty good, too. The server was friendly and extremely competent navigating the chaotic and cramped dining area. We're glad we went but if we return we'll try it on a quieter night, if possible, due to our son's young age. And yes, the spanish coffee presentation is not to be missed. :)

Pros: near hotels, good food, good service

Cons: , overcrowding

"Spanish Coffee and Turkey"

by UP2SKI

The atmosphere is the 'best', the crowd is cool,- the place is awash in Kahlua and the Turkey is tops. I mean man if you like Turkey - this is it!

Pros: Parking across street, Great Magician, Spanish Coffee

Cons: Get there early

Two words: Spanish Coffee

by Ranada

There is nothing like wrapping up a night on the town with a tantalizing Spanish Coffee. If Huber's served nothing else, this would be enough. The preparation is an art, and the taste is divine! One of my favorite last-stops in downtown.

Higher-end nightspot

by yazfan

It's been difficult to find a nightspot that's geered to the dressy late 20's and 30's crowd. For those tired of the all black-local band-local beer scene, here's a bar and restaurant with history, beautiful women, and decent food. Drinks are creative, but just a tad pricey. Armando, the door guy, is way cool. If you enjoy a lively scene, you can't go wrong here.

Pros: A bit older crowd, No fleece, outside seating

been awhile, need to go back

by mitt

i love this place. what a great loud main room full of people. i guess the noise factor comes from maybe a few of those yummy-make-your-tummy-warm spanish coffees. gotta love the presentation of them of course, not to mention the attractive people that seem to permeate this place. entertainment in the lobby while you wait has always been a draw (and wait you probably will). i prefer this place in the winter months. it's got that homey kind of atmosphere.

Love Huber's

by gonzoqb

Portland's oldest restaurant is certainly a great stop for anyone in the Portland area. They serve great turkey, ham and anything else on the menu is solid. Great stuff!

If you like good turkey..

by Illiad2u

Awesome turkey sandwiches--best in town!!! Add great 'old Portland' atmosphere to your turkey san and voila, you have the best lunch in town! If you don't have to work, take in one (and if you can, take in 2) of their "to die for Spanish coffees"

You'll then know WHY you live in Portland!

Pros: Atmosphere, Great service

Not worth a long wait

by shaft28

I like Huber's, I do. But I just can't justify waiting more than 10 minutes to get in.
It is like the back side of Huber's can't make up it's mind if it wants to be a bar or a night club. Patrons look confused about that too.
I do like to go there for after dinner coffee or drinks with friends, but then the club hopping set shows up. There's no dance floor and such a small stading area that I just don't get it.
Huber's should get wise, take out 1/2 the tables and give the patrons room to stand.
Getting too trendy, which is too bad as I do enjoy it at times.

Pros: drinks, bartenders

Cons: no room at the bar, crowd at times, cleanliness
