Yummy Garden is a great place for Chinese takeout. The prices are low, and the staff are extremely friendly. The best thing about this place is that they are open till eleven p.m. so when I get off work late I call them and my food is ready in ten minutes! I recommend the General Tsao's chicken, which is especially "yummy."

I am a transplanted east-coaster perpetually looking for chinese food like that which can be found in NJ. I ordered pot stickers and sweet and sour chicken from Yummy Garden. The food was surprisingly similar to NJ chinese food. Over-fried white meat chicken, dumplings with greasy dough and inedible pork inside. However, I felt really gross afterwards (not usually a by-product in NJ) and there were some questionable parts in my chicken. This meal cost me $15, which was way too much for me to go back again. I wouldn't recommend going here.

We are regulars at Yummy. We went there yesterday for an early dinner, and were appalled to see how filthy it had become. Just two guys working, and one of them was absent most of the time, hiding in the back on the telephone. The salt and pepper , soy sauce and table condiments were filthy to the touch!
This place needs some serious cleaning and sanitizing attention!
Also, most importantly- the bathroom has NO soap or paper towels, ever. What does that tell you? The food server should not be handling the cash or lottery machine if they are serving the food, with dirty hands on the serving plates. Enough said!!

I've only eaten here once, but it was great. We ordered some take-out and the server that helped us was extremely friendly and chatty. Since it was my first time she recommended a vegetarian dish (bean curd family style) that was super delicious. The husband had General Tsao's Chicken. Both were great dishes that fed us for three meals. That's a good deal for less than $20.00. The fortune cookies are home made and superb.
Next time I would like to dine in because they have a whacky movie theme throughout the store. Lots of random autographed memorobilia to look at. Cool figurines as well. Love the yummy garden.

Yummy Garden is great. I eat there at least once every other week. The staff are super friendly and quick to serve. I love the General Tsos chicken, Orange Beef and Moo Shoo plates. Like everyone else is saying, its a great place to eat if youre in the neighborhood.

I am a regular customer at Yummy Garden because it is near where I live. The food is good, if you are in the mood for chinese food. The service is fast, excellent and friendly. My boyfriend is a picky eater and they always try to accomodate his picky tastes. The prices are good. There are plenty of booths and it is rather roomy if you just want to sit and read a newspaper. There is also outdoor seating in the summer and there is plenty of parking. I cannot say that I would drive from outside of Portland to come here, but if you live in the Sellwood/brooklyn/hawthorne area, it is a good place when you get the craving for Chinese food.

Pros: Friendly service and customized meals.

Cons: The food is Chinese food and if you are in the mood for Mexican, it won't do.

I have seen horror movies. I have seen the one about the killer doll. I have seen the one about Freddy Kruger. Neither of those films were as scary as the chinese food that was given to me by a man who smelled like old sardines. The establishment itself reminded me of a dogs rear end. All puckered and gross. For your saftey, don't eat here. (PS. there are broken windows all over the place. I bet it's been held up like 10 times.)

Neither "Yummy" nor a "Garden"... My roommate and I actually had to compete not to become ill for hours after the meal. I seriously considered issuing a charge back on my credit card. The presentation of the fried rice nearly made me lose my lunch on myself in the restaurant. I know it is hard to find good Chinese food in Portland, but no one should lower there standards this far... How this got 4 stars I'll never know.
I would rather eat pig slop out of a trough than ever go back to the "Yummy Garden"
Please don't ever go here.

This is a wonderful chinese restaurant. Truth be told, it is hard to find a decent Chinese Restaurant out of the masses. Most of the time, I am left extremely disappointed. That is not so regarding Yummy Garden. It is kind of a "hole in the wall" but the food is tremendous. I have been a return customer many times, and will continue to be forever. The Hot and Sour Soup is incredible, the Crab Puffs are to die for, etc. etc. etc. Staff is wonderful, and service is quick. How can you possibly go wrong?!?!?

I ate at Gold Bowl on Powell and Yummy Garden three days later. Gold Bowl is maybe 5 times as good. I think Gold Bowl has real Chinese chefs. I would not recommend the Yummy Garden to a friend. Instead, go to Gold Bowl and get their sweet and sour chicken. I've never had sweet and sour chicken that tastes so good.

Yummy Garden is a very nice neighborhood restaurant. I really like their movie theme in the restaurant. It is famous for its General Tao's Chicken, which is cooked in very special sauce. My friends highly recommended that dish. We love it!!! Yumm.....Definitely the best in town. Their Potsticker are homemade, big and fresh. A must try item too. If you want to try different items in one plate, their special combination would be a good choice. It is served in a huge plate with four or five different items, and the price is very reasonable! (All entrees come with free soup, I love their HOT and Sour Soup!)
