I had to board my dogs there for 49 days and just got them back last week. It was an emotional trip, but in the end, Willamette Valley Dog & Cat Motel really proved themselves to me and worked with me in understanding the frustration of not having my babies for almost two months. They really care about the animals staying there, they remembered my dogs' names and knew that I would be in there almost every day just to sit with them (the dogs) because I missed them so much. The girls there are really good to animals, if you want a place that you can be confident in how well they care and treat them, this is your place. I probably could have found a cheaper place, but you may get what you pay for. I would never let my dogs (aka babies) go anywhere I didn't feel comfortable. I recommend this kennel for anyone who needs to board.

To the person that complained about your dog picking up fleas...I think you need to do some research. Fleas live everywhere. YOU have to protect your dog from picking them up, NOT the kennel. If you were responsible, you would have treated them before boarding them.....

Mr. Dickason,

Your negative review of my business was uncalled for, hurtful and untrue. I am the PROUD owner of Willamette Valley Dog and Cat Motel, Inc., and I take great pride in offering the best care of pets. I advocate not only for the pets but also for my staff, my business, and yes, for my customers, too. I am an honest person and I run my business honestly, and I do not conduct ??deceptive business practices.? It would have been better had you talked to me, when you would have discovered that most of your stated facts, probably written in anger, were absolutely incorrect.

You stated that we have a ??new policy?? of charging by the calendar day. The truth is that our policy of charging by the calendar day has been in place for many years. In fact, every single contract you signed contained this information. You may not have read the contracts before you signed them, but it was always there, nevertheless. I am enclosing copies of your past four contracts, dating back to June 2007, so you can see this for yourself. Perhaps you noticed the calendar day charges only this time because your March 23rd boarding was the first time Alfee was here for only overnight.

One of the reasons for charging by the calendar day is that each whole day is reserved just for you. You can arrive/depart at any time during our open hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some boarding kennels have narrow windows of time for pets to arrive and depart, so that often there is a crowded parking lot and lobby when everyone is in a hurry.

We did institute a new policy in April 2009, which gives customers prorated departure discounts. You actually received this discount for Alfee??s March 24th departure.

Included in boarding charges is that all dogs are walked three times a day, so that they may stretch their legs and relieve themselves. They are fed twice a day and given a treat twice a day, so that there are many opportunities for attention to our guests. We do charge extra for services that we call Fun Times: Off Lead Sessions, Office Time, Nature Walks, Snack ??n?? Snuggles, etc. (These Fun Times are similar to ordering room service or a spa treatment at a human motel, for which extra fees are charged.) We do not charge extra for food or bedding.

You say that we should ??clean the place once in a while.? Sir, you have no idea how much cleaning goes into running a boarding kennel! Every occupied kennel and room is scrubbed clean EVERY DAY and sterilized after a pet goes home, and sterilized weekly for long-stays. I take great pride in how clean my kennel is. You should come and watch our cleaning routines.

I give tours all day every day, with no appointment required, and I have nothing to hide. The veterinarians in our area take tours themselves and tell me that this is the cleanest kennel they??ve seen.

I really hope that this letter has shed a light on the situation, and that you realize how wrong were your conclusions. If you have questions or further concerns, please contact me before venting your anger in print.

Very Sincerely,
Valerie Stinson

This is a new review and things have changed if you've read the other positive reviews. The other reviews are dated and don't take into account the new changes for 2010!
I boarded my dog on 3/23/2010 and returned the next day right after noon to pick him up. I was subsequently charged 2 days! Apparently they have a new policy to generate extra income off their customers. They charge by CALENDER days only! (thereby charging for an extra day). I've gone to this facility for years, and they never had this before.
A definite "gotcha". The care is ok, but they do charge for every little thing including exercise, mat, food, "office" playtime. My dog also picked up fleas which is irritating. They should clean the place once in awhile too.

Our dog always seemed happy to stay here. Unlike another place he stayed, Willamette Valley Dog and Cat Motel was able to handle the dog, and did not lose (or let the dog destroy) his leash and other belongings.

We brought our dog in for a week stay. Their prices seem reasonable until you add in some extra services. They don't prorate your stay. If you want your dog to have free time in the office, it will cost you. They seem to take good care of the animals. We would probably only use them again if we were in a bind and found nothing else.
