Kudos for being open on Mondays! This is one of the only places to get my pup's nails trimmed on a Monday. Plus, they carry specialty dog foods - a nice bonus. Parking is easy on the street in front.

Loved it! Jake showed up a dirty 11 year old mutt and went home a dapper young show dog, down to the bandana around his neck.

During the past 10 years I've taken two dogs to Townhouse for grooming and boarding. Both were a bit neurotic and didn't do well at other places. But each one ran to the entrance when I brought them to Townhouse, which told me all I needed

I am willing to bet half of the negative reviews are from people with personal problems and if not, I'm sorry you had a bad experience! Me and my wife have been taking our dogs there for 10+ years and never had a problem. Ive even got cards in the mail with pictures of my dog and staff playing together! The staff is both courteous and caring. Love their service and couldn't ask for a better enviroment for my pets while we are out of town!

Reading the review below me inspired me to write a review myself. I had a verrry similar experience with Kim at the front desk being rude and confrontational when it came to my dog, and also treating him poorly as well. They have been a great place to board cats over the years and we have never had a problem, but the way she behaved was ridiculous and we will not be back. She's obviously a well established employee there, and that is all the more reason to find a new facility to bring our pets.

Cons: horrible customer service

Been taking my dog to townhouse for several years but unfortunately for Townhouse, we will no longer be back because of their substandard front desk helper named Kim. She is snippy, rude, and unprofessional. We've had issues with her before--but the straw broke the camel's back recently. There are so many great, reputable facilities for boarding and grooming in PDX--we really don't need to waste our time at Townhouse any longer.

My grandmother's Samoyed was pretty badly hurt by one of their groomers. They stripped the undercoat out and left 40% of the dog bald! The dog was so traumatized that my Grandma thought that it had had a stroke. Then the manager had the gall to tell her that she was wrong and that it was probably her fault! We are so angry at this place. Townhouse should be shut down.

I use to like these guys, but even still with that I had to make sure I gave them very specific instructions on how to groom my dog....?? Even for the breed of dog usually there is a specific grooming technique... started leaving there just baffled and worn out. So.... I think I as well will be going else where. Just please use Townhouse with caution.. I'm sure there are others out there that are long time users and have had a taste of what most people are gripping about and don't like change but when you look at your beloved animal and they look back at you looking like a rat ugh!!! you can only be a bit P.O.ed

We have been taking our terrier to Townhouse for years. She is very old (almost 21), and the staff are very gentle with her. When she had trouble eating, they hand-fed her. They take her out for play time. They make sure she get her medications. She has been skittish about other kennels, but she does great at Townhouse.

I don't live in Portland but in the DC area, and would never have come across Townhouse Pet Care Center, had it not been for a relative (who did live in Portland) passing away suddenly. His dog was being boarded at Townhouse, and over the course of several weeks, Stacey and her staff worked diligently with me to find Darby - the female German Shepherd - a new home. You can read the full story on my blog (CitySearch is not letting me publish the URL, but if you Google "Waxing UnLyrical" and then search for "Darby" on my blog, you'll find it).

I can't thank Stacey enough for everything she did for Darby. Even when we thought we might not have a home, she never once implied that she would no longer be able to care for Darby. Since I live across the country, that meant a lot. It's my opinion that there's probably no better place in Portland to have your pets cared for than Townhouse. Stacey and her staff rock.

Pros: Personal attention and care

Cons: None that I know of

My wife and I have a poodle with very curly hair. Sometimes it gets matted, especially in the summer. We took him in to Townhouse and he came back completely shaved. When we told them this wasn't what we asked for, the owner blamed us and said my wife was a bad dog mom.

Another time our dog scratched his paw bloody in the kennel. The bag we sent with him was streaked with it. When we brought this to their attention, we were met with blank stares and an overall negative vibe as if we had done something wrong. Classic psychology of the unaccountable. I would have been satisfied if they showed some concern. They didn't. They acted like it was our fault.

After this last time at Townhouse, our dog began acting skittish and fearful. This is not one of our lively and gregarious pet's traits. It took about a month for him to get back to his normal self. This left a very bad taste. We never went back after that.

Now we go to Beauty and the Beast across the street. They are kind and gentle with the pets and the owners. On top of that, they're cheaper too. Go there instead. Townhouse is not the place for your beloved pooch.

We have been taking our giant Labradoodle, DeeOGee to Townhouse for grooming for over 3 1/2 years. On our initial visit, we provided the groomer a picture of how we would like him to look and what we expected. She did a wonderful job and has been consistent since then with the cut, nail trim and inside ear cleaning. Based on the time of the year we do vary the length of the cut to accommodate the weather. We are NEVER disappointed!

When we take DeeOGee in for his seasonal haircut, we always receive rave reports from the groomer and the staff on what a ??good boy? he is. That always makes us proud of him, not to mention confident, knowing that he??s well taken care of at Townhouse.

We often get compliments on his cut, especially from other Labradoodle owners.

We would highly recommend Townhouse Pet Care Center to anyone!

I have continued to use Townhouse so many times because I keep hoping that if I try harder and am more explicit, they will eventually give my dog a good cut (I like the price--forty buck for grooming). I have a miniature labradoodle with long fleece coat. I was very explicit with the groomer that I didn't want the nose shaved (because they always do a weird shave that no other groomer does). I also wanted a long cut.
What she did instead was shave my dog to 1/4 inch, and then she shaved the nose to the skin to look like a poodle, and also shaved the top of the tail but left the end swishy long---it looks like a feather duster. I have no idea what she was trying to accomplish. And there are a couple of places where she must have slipped with the clippers because there are bald spots. literally. The dog looks awful--even my six year old in front of the lady said "that's a really silly looking haircut!" Awkward. It isn't worth the savings to go there.

And on to the boarding--i have used them four times now. This last time, when she was going to be there from 8 until after work for the grooming, I asked them if she could be let out of her cage to go in the run, and they told me no because she would be busy all day with grooming. I said "it takes all day to groom her?" and she said "yep." so, i decided to get off work early and picked my dog up at 3. The second they brought my dog to me, she peed like a race horse....it was obvious that they hadn't let her go out ALL DAY! And that is consistent with the other times we have picked up the dog. They have small wire cages and a tiny run, and I honestly doubt that they take the dogs into it. I will never use them again.

I board my dog at Charleton Kennels, and love them and will continue to use them in spite of the hike out to Sauvie Island. I haven't found a replacement groomer. :(

i brought my dog here for boarding for 4 days over xmas. i thought the staff was rude and the care was terrible. when i came to pick up my dog she felt dirty, something which she hardly ever is, the staff handed me her bed which i had broughten from home in a plastic bag soaked in urin. my dog is 4.5 yrs old she doesn't have accidents on her bed! they said they would be close an xmas and i now believe they were not around to take care of the dogs and this is why my dogs bed was soaked in urin and she was dirty from laying in her own urin. i was very unhappy with the service and care and would not bring my dog back to this facility. i would look around to everywhere else before taking your pet to this place!

I have never taken my cat to the groomers before. But she is mentally disabled and at the age of 3 she has the motivation and cleanliness of a 13 year old cat. I could not keep up with her matted hair, her constant dandruff, her everything that comes with a cat not cleaning themselves (I bathe her biweekly to keep up, brush her every night etc) so I thought I would try a groomers to help. I spent 60+ dollars. They bathed her, and didn't even finish grooming her because she was scared of the blowdryer! Well let her air dry and then brush her out! I picked her up and she was shedding I sneezed all the way home. when I took her out of the carrier she was shedding more than before. I was so upset! I spent so much money and being a college student I don't have that much. And it was wasted! I spent 30 minutes brushing her out, and she still was shedding. I felt like I was robbed. I would not recommend this place at all. I have been scared to go to a groomers since.

I want to say this is a great place because it's been around for such a long time (just look at the sign) but truly after 6 years of service I've finally called it quits. I'll miss the cute bandanna's they put on the dogs but that's it.
Staff is so rushed and grouchy. Always taking phone calls while you're trying to pay your bill. The grooming is marginal at best. I've had a cat who came out BAD, VERY. Mostly, I'm tired of their judgment of owners. Life is too short for that kind of nastiness and quite frankly my pets are pets, I love them for the beasts they are but make no mistake, they are not my children. So, go to Beauty the Beast, just down the street. You'll get a better cut for less money and a much more enjoyable experience.

I had my persian cat groomed here recently. The grooming was not good and did not compare with other groomings she has had in the past. The service also cost $20 more than many other places I've been to or received quotes from. Usually when the cat is groomed all of her hair is clipped and evened out. When I picked her up she looked as if someone just simply shaved her. That's it. The hair she does have left didn't even look brushed. I paid $62 for grooming because I thought that it would better than the job I can do myself or any of the other cat groomers who charge $40 could do. It wasn't. My girlfriend actually cried when she saw the cat.

I have taken my Maltese, Merrick, in to be groomed at Townhouse Pet Center three different times, and all three times he has come back absolutely beautiful. The groomers are truly professional and are far better than any other facility I've ever been to (and I've been to MANY). Merrick is excited every time we go, and it is easy to get an appointment. AND their prices are very affordable. They are always willing to take the time to talk to you and assure you that your dog will be in good hands. I would recommend them to anyone.

We've been bringing our dogs in for the last year or so (grooming only). Love the little report cards they give out. This last visit we had some minor irritation on our dog. They not only called and urged us to take the dog to the vet (on their tab) but they called to check on him and went above and beyond to make amends. Very much appreciated. Their attentiveness to their customers and dogs is evident.

This is in response to the previous posting detailing the recent grooming experience where an owner's pet was injured in a grooming kennel. I am an employee at Townhouse and felt I should let you and other readers know that this truly doesn't sound like our facility. I have asked the owner and all other employees and they do not recall an incident such as yours. Also, our kennels are not designed like the ones you described. Perhaps you have us confused with another kennel? I would encourage you as we do with all our "extended family/clientele" to please contact us with any issue no matter how small. It is a huge responsibility to be entrusted with the care of your family member and we do not take that lightly. Come down for a visit we'd love to show you around!

When I called, the person who answered the phone acted as if I was an inconvenience. I gave her the benefit of the doubt; maybe they were just busy that day. When I arrived with my dogs, I was treated as if I was interrupting business, not as if I was adding to it. Not even 5 minutes after dropping my dogs off, I got a phone call that my dog had gotten his foot caught in the cage and had BROKEN OFF HIS NAIL, which was bleeding profusely. Had I realized they used such horrid "kennels" (really just wire cages with holes, apparently) I NEVER would have left my dogs there! They didn't even do a good job grooming my dogs; I had to take them to another groomer. THERE IS NO WAY I'LL GO BACK.

IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I HAVE TO GIVE THEM ONE STAR -- THEY DESERVE ZERO STARS!

I brought my dog here for the first time today for grooming- the staff were GREAT!

Super friendly and knowledgeable, even giving me info on what type of dog my mystery mutt might be.

My doggie looked great, all shiny and happy when she came out- Candice (who did the grooming) listened to what I wanted for my girl and did a very professional job- I'll definitely be back!

To be truthful... I don't normally take the time to write a review, but unfortunately after the way I was treated when I called the Townhouse Pet Care Center for the first time, seriously prompted me to write this negative review about their business.

I was actually looking to schedule an appointment for my 10 year-old pug to be groom. We've never been to this place of business before, so I was calling to inquire about their prices, availability and what other services they might have there to offer their customers.

However... After speaking to one of their extremely rude employees who appeared to be very impatient and not willing to take a little time to answer a few of my questions, really actually shocked me. She was antagonistic and cantankerous, instead of being friendly and courteous. They definitely lost our family as future customers.

I decided NOT to bring my dog to theTownhouse Pet Care Center whatsoever. I would feel absolutely unconformable in leaving my dog (whom I love with all my heart) there because of their irritability as well as their unprofessionalism towards me over the phone. I would sincerely worry way too much about him, and I'm definitely not willing to risk the one I love because they're having a so called bad day.

I would NOT recommend this business whatsoever, so I'm giving theTownhouse Pet Care Center a BIG DOUBLE THUMBS DOWN!!!

I have been so impressed with townhouse pet care center and their staff that I thought compelled to write a review. (which I never do)
I love that every time I come in the staff recognize me and my dog, jake. He races to the door when we get out of the car which is a huge plus for me. I love that they have steady staff and don't have to see a new face every time I come in for grooming. Their great! They make you feel like a dear friend and genuinely love animals, which suprisingly is hard to find.
I bring my havanese, jake in for grooming and boarding and have been so happy with their care. It's hard to find a grooming/boarder that goes the extra mile but they are it.

We've been using Townhouse Pets for two years now. I've finally given up!! This is the most uptight groomers I have ever been to, and my dog comes home looking different each time, and never what I asked. I am so sick and tired of the horrible attitude that the staff has. It is very close to home, so we just sucked it up, but I'm done. Never again.

I have been taking my dog, a shih-zhu, there for boarding for many, many years. It gives me great peace of mind that he will be well-cared for. When I drop him off, he seems comfortable as he strolls right to the back where the kennels are without looking back at me. I do purchase the playtime options which also gives me peace of mind. A couple of times my dog had a small medical issue and thankfully there is a vet clinic right next door-again, peace of mind.

I used to get him groomed there a long time ago, but got very annoyed at the comments on the groomers card about his behavior.

But, for boarding-I highly recommend it.

I was so happy to find townhouse as an alternative to assembly line pet care and the way over priced boarding care at the vet. I have a 19 year old cat named dustin. I know my cat is very old and also is diabetic so my husband and I are always hesitant to take trips, especially long ones, until we found townhouse. My vet would charge me 53.00 dollars per day for boarding and insulin injection charges on top of that. I started looking around for alternatives and was happy to find a kennel that was knowledgeable enough to handle dustin. When I checked in at townhouse they took all my information and wrote down everything in front of me. I have boarded my cat several times and have never had a negative experience. Our jack russell terrier, milo, has also boarded there and we even used their trainer, who was fantastic!!!
I recommend them every chance I get.
