Seated with menus. We were one of three tables that evening. 15 minutes before we were waited on. Our first drinks and an appetizer came out timely and it was downhill from there. No water refills, no inquiries if we wanted more drinks. A good 15 mins before they came for our dinner order. Appetizer was long gone. Food mediocre. Once is enough. Not a place I would want to return to.

Pros: ??

Cons: service/food

you want to have a stiff drink and relax a little. no gimmicks used to try to get you in, no super loud annoying underground indie crap that people only listen to because they think its cool to listen to music playing, no riff raff. good place to hang. thanks for an awesome burger and ceasar salad. mixed in a few old fashioneds and capped the night off with the butt kickin chicken wings.

Cons: cant think of one

My friends and I love hawthorne; we also love a chill venue where we can enjoy some yummy food and a stiff drink. After spending a few hours at Imbibe on sunday night we all concluded that it is exactly what we were looking for. The service was professional (not to mention the total hunks working there..meow) drinks were hand-made with precision and care, and the food was diverse and flavorful. The ambiance was low lit, comfy, and fun! Plus great music that made us feel that we had slipped into our own time. I highly recommend Imbibe, the only thing left to loose would be yourself.

Pros: happy hour, great drinks!

Cons: on-street parking

I used to like coming to Imbibe for fun music and the food was decent. Went last week for happy hour, and left feeling really disappointed. Sweet potato fries were undercooked, and didn't even taste like sweet potatoes. Also ordered the Hummus plate, the carrots and cucumbers looked at least a day old. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be going back for awhile. Hope the next time is better.

I appreciate a good cocktail, but to me a good bar is equal to it's happy hour menu.
Which Imbibe has in droves!
I went with two friends and we shared the food we ordered, all of it off the happy hour menu. One of my friends is a calamari connoisseur and says it was the best he'd ever had. The tomatoes were stuffed with cheese, artichokes and drizzled with aged balsamic, it was fantastic.
The little hamburgers were just ok, of the three the blue cheese one was probably best.
And the salmon skewers were a little 'fishy' tasting for me.
But you don't know until you try right? And it was all very decently priced.

What a nice little place. The atmosphere was great and charming. I loved the food and drinks and we had an all around good time. I think this place is a gem!

I tried Imbibe a few times, but I found the service and food to be the best around happy hour- or lunch. The food is delicious and fresh and the drinks are perfect. A different crowd at night- doesn't blend well with the Hideaway next door, and the drinks/food are considerably more expensive.

Went to Imbibe last Sunday with friends. Slow service to begin with. It's like nobody works here (maybe a Sunday thing).
Waited ages for food. Literally 2 minutes before everyone else's food arrived I'm informed they're out of garden burgers! I'm sitting there with no food. My friend ordered sweet potato fires, got regular. Second go around for me I order Mac and Cheese and fries. The Mac and Cheese was undercooked when it came (i guess no surprise as they must have hurried it) and no fries at all for me.
This performance would have merited one star only but the waiter was apologetic and comp'd my part of the meal.
We used to come here quite regularly but the quality of food and service has become so poor I doubt we'll bother again.

I went after a friend told me about their new menu, the dinner I had there was awesome. I got the halibut with saffron cream sauce and my boyfriend had a burger with sweet potato fries and both left us very satisfied. Even though we were stuffed as an introduction to the new menu the chef came out and checked on us with a complimentary dessert which was a chocolate Guinness stout cake YUM. She said she just started and we chatted for a second, and mentioned that she was using local and organic produce and vendors which is a big plus in my book.

The bar here is great..good drinks and happy hour..dinner is okay for now but I was told they just hired a new chef(a girl too which rocks!) and she is putting together a good new menu for lunch and dinner that sounds really great! Apparently, it will be in effect late this month or early next month and I am looking forward to new food to go with the already good drinks

Learn to count!!!!

Beware the bartender likes to add drinks you never ordered onto your tab. I won?t be going back there. He tried claiming I didn?t know how much I was drinking. I know for a fact I had 3 drinks with a glass of water in between. I did have to ask for water several times. They won?t be getting my business again. Lot of great bars in PDX that are honest.

Slow table service. When they overcharged us for a drink, the bartender refused to take it off and insisted that he actually should of charged us for three additional drinks. Absolutely unbelievable. I would never go there again or recommend it to anyone.

On a recent Saturday night about 6 p.m. we arrived at Imbibe and were rewarded with the opportunity be ignored for a very long time before the wait person casually strolled over to inquire if, by some chance, we would care for something to eat. Seemed stunned the answer was yes. She had to go process this notion for another good 10 minutes before we actually got to order. I thought the food was really average, my wife said her drink was good. Won't be going back.

I used to live in the neighborhood and this place was decent. Tonight I had cold (icey) mussels. My sister had a hair in her fries, and a VERY fishy tasting chicken sandwich. Another friend found another hair in her dish about 3 minutes later. On top of this, the server seemed used to this and unapologetic--although she took the mussels off the bill. After lamenting, we realized no one in our group had ever sent a meal back or complained before. Never ever go here. Maybe people have caught on, because the place was empty.

A friend of ours bought this old Chez Jose location and turned it into Imbibe. They recently sold the place to new owners but I would still recommend it for an evening out with friends. Go earlier in the evening and take your kids -- after 9ish or so, it really is best for adults.

Best bloody mary's in town (next to zell's). I made a joking passing comment to my husband - where's my pickled bean? - the manager heard me, ran to the store and presented us with a cup of pickled beans. Wow! I seriously used to come here just for a bloody mary. It's like a salad in a drink or something.

Another bartender makes the most amazing virgin cocktails, and is just super nice. The happy hour menu is pretty good too. Nice place to hang out.

I was at Imbibe on a Sunday night. The band was too loud to allow any conversation over the music. At least they were pleasant to listen to. Our server was attentive and helpful. My date's drink was great. The food was okay. Inventive recipes, with less than amazing taste. So go for appetizers! We shared the olives with bread and oil. Yum. My favorite thing about the place is the ambience. So stylish, chic, and classy!

What was good... my beverage. Maybe, maybe I would come again to sit at the bar for one, but probably not. I should have known as the bar area was fairly full and the dining area, not so much. What was bad...the food. Not just kind of not good but BAD. Expensive and not tasty. The fries had an especially nice flavor/aroma of old burnt fryer oil, mmmmmm. Did I mention the incredible disappearing server? Magic. Continuing on bad, the "music" which was probably shooting for ambient but was really just some guy alone at a computer making strange special effects sounding noise. At least he seemed to be having a better time than me. At least these are all things that, hopefully can be improved. Proceed with caution. And a full stomach.

Hello, I hear this place is really great. I have been to Oregon once but never here. This Bar used to have live music, but it seems that there was a cover of Jimi Hendrix that a band played. Some a$$hole, from the American Society of Musicians and Publishers, wrote down the names of the songs and is now suing in a federal court. I wonder if he even has standing for Jimi. No one speaks for Jimi, 'cept for Jimi, and I am for damn sure that he (or his estate) would want people jamming on his song, eating some great food ( I do not know for sure, but I heard this place was good) and drinking some beers. Also this is a dangerous slipper slope, so no band can ever cover another band's song? This does not seem like a good thing for public policy. Every time me and my band sing "Bad" I gotta pay Mike? I hope the dude who filed the suit spontaneously (sp.) combusts while listening to smoke on the water. (used with permission)

I wouldn't think of Imbibe as a place to grab a burger, but that's changed now! Their buffalo burger is my favorite and served medium it tasted great! Not dry, tough and chewy like some places buffalo burgers. Fries were delicous and the service was great as were the Manhattans. I often overlook this as a neighborhood hangout, but it's high on the list after the last visit.

Cons: A bit loud from the live music, but if that's what you're going for....

This cozy bar/restaurant serves up some of the yummiest cocktails (try the pomegranate mojito!) in town. The food is also delish, with quality local ingredients and excellent preparation. And to top it off, they often have live music.

PROS: Pomegranate mojito!
CONS: The cocktails can be spendy.

We heard that a duo we liked was playing there, so we went, never having gone before. The wine was fine, the food was great. In particular, I got this Forbidden Tofu! It was spicy, fried, and served with delicious veggies over a bed of black rice. I'll get that again, to be sure. The band, well, we knew they were cool and that's why we went. It was our anniversary, and my wife felt she had been taken out for a very romantic evening. Thanks, Imbibe.

The place wasn't crowded, and the ambiance was open and dark and fairly nice. The waitress was fine. I had a vegetable panini and it was cold on the inside. My husband had the special, "leg of lamb" sandwich. They were both on dry, stale tasting bread. The fries were soaked in grease, and there's no choice to get a salad or anything besides fries with your food. I wouldn't bother going back to this place, there are too many other restaurants out there. We didn't have anything to drink, so I can't rate the drinks.

I walked in and the door was blocked by a large party who had free reign of the entryway. I was elbowed in the stomach. My friends and I surveyed the scene trying to figure out what to do, and I finally asked the bartender if we seat ourselves and he said 'ya wherever you want'. So we went and sat in the rear room next to a larger party. We sat for ten minutes and a server came over and said 'You have to move. This section is closed, that's the owner's wife next to you.' Then he walked away leaving us to fend for ourselves again. We finally found a table that was not dirty and sat and waited. Finally someone came and brought us a drink. This was the first and only time we saw our server, except when we flagged him down for our check.

Went to Imbibe with a group of friends. Our waitress was horrible. I ordered the steak. She didn't. Everyone else got their food. 45 minutes later, we sent the busboy to find her. By now, I'm about ready to chew my foot off in hunger. I got an apology, and the joy of paying full price for my meal, plus an 18% gratuity. No bread to tide me over. No free app. No free desert. By the time my food arrived, the band was demanding we pay cover. I was not impressed. (Although the food was just fine.)

I'm sure there are good servers there, but I'll never be back to find out. There are plenty of trendy, hip places in this town with just as fancy drinks and just as good food, and better service. I'll go to those places instead.

The $7 "imbibe infusion" is hands down the best cocktail in portland - fresh and delicious every time. Happy hour serves up Painted Hills burgers on the cheap, and outdoor seating on friendly lower Hawthorne can't be beat, even by hip downtown people-watching spots.

We were shocked at the poor quality of service and food when we visited on a Thursday night. (Shocked enough to write this review, which we've never done before.) The calamari was decent, thankfully, because everything else we ordered had something weird going on-- the salad had that "funky" taste that should only be present in items forgotten in the back of your fridge, the fries were very undercooked and oversalted, and the tacos were just unimpressive. If you go, I sure hope you have more luck than we did.

The comfortable couch in the middle of the restaurant makes this place feel like a living room. With an excellent staff that paid attention to our every need. We felt like we where right at home.

The Tuna was awesome and the Mussels where piled high in a lemongrass coconut broth that was to die for.

The space at Imbibe is very cool, open and airy, and the "Imbibe" cocktail was quite good. The food we will definitely pass on next time: dry, bland ahi tacos and oysters in the toughest breading I have ever experienced served with an oddly flavorless green sauce. Perhaps the dinner menu is better...

I don't usually take the time to do these sort of things, but our positive experience at Imbibe can be attributed to one person in particular - his name was Chris (I believe he may be co-owner or manager). Instantly, during a very busy Friday night he acknowledged our presence at the door and made us feel immediately welcome! The restaurant itself is very welcoming (both visually & "audio-ally" -an excellent music mix was being played as we dined with Jill Scott, Sade & Michael Franty). We also noticed Chris' excellent repoir with his staff and customers - always laughing and looking to provide whatever help he could. He was very knowledgeable with wine as well. Portland often times can be a bit "aloof" in providing friendly service - Chris' approach to his job was refreshing and obviously very genuine. Cheers to Chris and the entire Imbibe staff!
