Its the best thai in the area. Red Onion Thai is just not authentic tasting, Tara Thai is inconsistant. Beau Thai is always good and they give you a lot of food and its a nice place to dine. Left overs reheat nicely. They are super nice there also.

i ordered pineapple Fried Rice with chicken. My mom ordered pad thai noodles. Both dishes were not the greatest in taste, but average I would say. "Not worth going back" were my thoughts when I was leaving the restaurant. AND 5 HOURS after I got home, i had my head in the toilet. My tummy was doing summer salts all night to say the least. This review won't allow me to type food p___, but you get the idea. My mom was also sick!!!! Do Not Eat At Beau Thai.

Heard they had the 'best pad thai' around. Not true. Bland and had a fishy taste. Very nice people work there, but not worth the food, unfortunately.

Disappointing food. Ordered one of their star dishes, a seafood item. It arrived cold and not freshly cooked. The other two dishes we had lacked the intensity of flavors usually associate with Thai food. Pricey for the quality, but quantity was ample.

Pros: Waiter was very attentive, and immediately took back the seafood dish.

Cons: Food did not seem freshly prepared.

We stopped by Thursday night at 8:40pm looked at their window plenty of people inside, and and their hours said they were open until 9:30pm. They told us they were closed and couldn't seat us. Now I understand a lot of places stop seating a little before closing time but an entire hour is rediculous. If they want to be out the door at 9:30 then they should say they close at 9:30 they should say they close at 8:00.

As someone who loves Thai food -it is my favorite and I try to eat it as often as I can, I was excited to check out this restaurant, after hearing good reviews from others. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Beau Thai for a nice dinner before our move, and were terribly disappointed with not only the service, but the food as well. I will admit, the salad rolls were good (seems to be the common opinion) but my entree left much to be desired. I ordered the same sweet basil with tofu dish that I typically order at any Thai restaurant, but this time, it tasted very fishy, like there was too much fish or oyster sauce in the dish. Also, the basil in the dish tasted like cleaning product. Not a very good combination. Needless to say, I only ate a tiny bit -enough to figure out that the tastes were very strange and pinpoint what they were. Also, for a medium spicy dish (my usual), the entree left my mouth on fire and my nose running to the point where I had to excuse myself to go to the bathroom and get some tissues. This whole time, no one came by the table to check on our food or offer us refills on our glasses of water, which were long gone after being poured as we sat down to eat (and after the spicy food). My boyfriend ordered the crispy crepe dish and requested tofu for his meal, but when the dish arrived, he had chicken and shrimp in his crepe instead. We waited for ages for anyone to come and clear our table and bring our bill, which was much too pricey for the food and service we received. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant, nor will I ever go back to give it a second chance.

Pros: salad rolls & peanut sauce

Cons: bad service, too much fish sauce, staff doesn't listen and are inattentive,

Another reviewer mentioned that they were pushed out the door; the exact same thing happened to me! It must be the same waitress, but since it is a family run business don't count on that person moving on. If you get the right staff the service is great, but if not then look out!

On my most recent visit we had a decent meal, but it was long because the waitress brought the wrong food and had to go back to the kitchen and order the right dish. So the person who had the wrong dish had to watch the rest of us eat. When we had finished our meal we were getting ready to leave but were still winding down our conversation. The waitress came over and said "We are trying to close if you don't mind...". We weren't too put off because we were getting ready to go anyway, but it seemed odd since there were a few other tables and they weren't asked to leave. Its not as if we were the last ones there.

That was my third visit to the place and I haven't decided if I'll give them another chance yet. I live nearby but there are several other Thai restaurants in NW (Typhoon is one). The food at Beau Thai is good, but if I'm going out to eat, I don't need a side order of attitude with my peanut sauce.

All I have to say is that I am a professional chef and I have been to this restaurant over thirty times and it has been excellent each and every time. They have the best salad rolls and peanut sauce in town. The thai chilli jam is made in house and is hot a delicious! Get anything. Extra spicy of coarse.

My friends and I entered the restaurant at 9:00pm with a warm welcome and a quiet atmosphere. We were hungry and ready to order. Our server initially was pleasant, but seemed rushed. Once our food arrived, we didn't have any complaints, and enjoyed our meal as we had a fun conversation. 3/4 of the way through our meal, the waitress stated, "Not to be rude, but we want to close our Visa machine so we can go. Are you paying cash or credit? Can I have your card now?" It was a little after closing time at that time. We gave her our card and finished our meal. During that time, the wait staff was standing over us, watching our last bites and pushing us out the door. Keeping in mind, this was not long after they closed the doors to any new customers. The waitress grabbed our leftovers from the table, put them in a bag for us and handed them to us and pushed us out the door. A friend had to use the bathroom before we left, which seemed to inconvenience her. We left willingly, knowing we would never be back. There are plenty of good restaurants in Portland. I know the owner of River and Sushi is always welcoming customers in for a late meal and is very friendly. I don't recommend going here if you plan on a later dinner, when they are closing. I will NEVER return to Beau Thai!

I have to disagree with some of the other posters... one of the things that keeps my boyfriend and I going back to Beau Thai is their staff, who are consistantly warm and sweet. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the prices are reasonable. The garlic chicken dish is delicious and the spring rolls are our favorite in Portland!

Beau Thai is my favorite restaurant. Being away from home (Thailand), it is a treat to come to Beau Thai. Authentic ingredients, generous portion, great menu. Try it yourself. The restuarant gets busy because of the great food/popularity. That might compromise the service, but it is sure worth it.

I had lunch with my boyfriend today at that Thai restaurant on NW 21st Avenue. We had a horrible experience when the waiter came back twice with my debit card. He stated that it did not work even if there were sufficient funds.
It is the first time that I have felt so humiliated in a public place. Also, I tried to solve the problem with a short lady, who was standing at the reception, but she was not receptive at all. She may be the owner. My boyfriend went to get some cash somewhere around the corner with the same debit card, which strangely worked.
At the beginning of our lunch, my boyfriend complained to me that the food was cold, but I told him not to pay attention to it since I wanted to enjoy our lunch.
I will never ever set foot in that restaurant again. Our experience was traumatic and not enjoyable at all! As a business owner in permanent contact with the community, I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone because of the very bad service we have experienced.
Cold food, bad service, dirty corner table.

The food might have been good (we would not know), but the reception is not child friendly. We ended up not eating there due the unwelcome attitude towards children.

Beau Thai is great in several ways. First off, it's super convenient if you're in the NW. They have warm sake (!!), which is a great way to start. The woman who usually greets us at the door is sooooper friendly. The salad rolls are extraordinary. The prices are fair. The things that aren't so great are the waitress who's always surly (although we've come to appreciate her bluntness), and the CONSISTENTLY undercooked veggies. Each time we go, my boyfriend gets Pad Thai, I get a veggie dish, and I spend the evening gnawing on undercooked, tough cauliflower and broccoli. Like every time. Still, I wish them the best.

In our experience Beau Thai is a far from average restaurant with prompt and always polite and gratious service. The servers and staff seem to want to go the extra mile to please us.
It is also a pleasure to experiment with the extensive menu. Just remember: Hot MEANS Hot!!
We look forward to the specialties menus that seem to be offerred around many holidays.
We highly recommend Beau Thai to those we know and meet and we will continiue coming back here again and again even though we live across town.

Over-hyped. We've tried Thai restaurants in Philadelphia, Portland, and Washington DC. Beau Thai's cuisine is average, but the service leads much to be desired. On a slow Sunday night, the waitress quickly became frustrated as we tried to find 3 sauces that did not include fish or oysters. Later we were told "it's too busy" to accommodate a special request. There were only six tables occupied?!?!?!? At that point, we stopped eating, paid the check and left for Typhoon on 23rd street.

If you are in Nob Hill an in the mood for Thai, skip the attitude.

This place is great! The food is healthy and delicious, and the owner and staff are very friendly and personable. Beau Thai is hands-down my favorite restaurant in NW neighborhood -- I eat there at least once a week! The atmosphere is comfortable and nice -- it's very tastefully decorated, but doesn't make you feel like you're out of place if you show up in jeans. It's a good low-key date place, but also nice to go solo or with friends. They're usually pretty busy, but the service is always great. This place is not to be missed, especially if you live in NW!

Beau Thai has great salad rolls and Tom Yum soup, but I usually call for take out there. The portions are really big and flavorful, so I enjoy the food, but have never had very good service when I went there. Call ahead and walk over there if you live in the neighborhood, because parking is tricky.

Fantastic salad rolls punctuated a fine meal. After sampling many of the Thai restaurants in Portland, Beau Thai is very very good. Second only to Mai Thai on 18th. Service was excellent and all food items were very good, with Salad Rolls standing out as exceptional.

Beau Thai. The name always seemed slightly too-cute, the external ambience, too quiet. But when we finally ventured in on a Saturday afternoon to fortify ourselves for a sunny Saturday night, we were wide-eyed-stunned. Visually, Beau Thai is a house of vivid colors, egg yolk yellow dominated with lots of natural warm wood. We were between rushes so had an unhurried look at the landmark, though we were seated next to one of the only other parties in the place. That seemed strange, our conversations wove through each other to an extent even though ninety-percent of the tables were unoccupied. Proper spacing in a garden and restaurant lower the pressure, as it were, though compromises must be made and even enjoyed during a peak. Anyway, that aside, the service was attentive and consistent, the food absolutely artistic. What's more important, it lived up to its voluptuous color and content in flavor and freshness and degree of doneness. The Tom Yum Seafood Soup was spicy hot with a swirl of flavors that made that slight sense of regret inevitable: It had to end at some point. Until the next visit, that is. There's something timeless about the room, it's neither new nor old, but comfortable and designed to accommodate common areas while providing semi-private dining areas for groups. Lemongrass and citrus, pepper and salt, pungency and sweetness, this richly textured cuisine never fails to deliver smart nutrition that borders on a full sensory experience. One's face is flush with the capsaicin, one's tastebuds dance, enamored with the interplay of textures, flavors and je ne sais quois. This beau will be back...

This is the best Thai I've had in Portland. I spent four months in Thailand eating local cuisine and this is some of the best Thai I've had. Period. The prices are completely reasonable, especially for the location - I hope they keep it that way. Great ambiance, very friendly waitresses, awesome all the way around. I highly recommend this place. Quiet, very peaceful inside. Not once have I been disappointed.

First off, this is the best Thai restaurant in the city of Portland. I have eaten there literally every day for the past 3 months and I have tried just about every thing on the menu and several times. The sauces are perfect, the vegetables are perfect and the timing is perfect. You will never wait for exagerated amounts of time for your food. The ladies who work there are excellent, your water is never empty. The prices fit the bill, excellent food in a great neighborhood. I have been to culinary schools all over the United States including the Culinary Institute of America and I am extremly well versed with food at home and abroad. This is the best.

I might be a little biased since I only eat pad thai, but with that said, I KNOW my pad thai and this is not the place to go for authentic pad thai. I was highly dissapointed in the taste, service (I asked for no peanuts and my meal was COVERED with them!), price (too much for the quality of the food I recieved). Save your money and go somewhere else for your pad thai.

Went to enjoy some great Thai food with my parents and girlfriend, but left unsatisfied. Portions were large, but service was a little suspect. I have had better Thai in Vancouver, and I think that speaks for itself! The food lacked flavor and was less than impressive. Maybe i'm crazy?

I have never had Thai food before. For some reason, I thought that it would be overly spicy and I tend to shy away from that. What a delight the food was here! I had the special, a lightly breaded eggplant, (perfectly cooked), with fresh, high quality basil, perfectly cooked prawns and red peppers, (not the cheap green ones). Every ingrediant tasted so fresh. We had the combination platter appitizer, wonderful!. There was some spice in my dish, however it was a mild sauce, so the spice did not linger and there wasn't too much heat. I loved that! They do let you know which dishes are hot and let the customer choose how hot to make it. Very nice music, prompt service, friendly staff. I would like to see more of a variety of wines. Still, it won't deter me from going there, the food is just soooo good!!!

Beau Thai is one of Portland's best Thai in Portland and one of my overall favorite restaurants. I can't get enough of their Crab-Meat fried rice! They also make the best salad rolls in town. Service is excellent and they're always friendly and accomodating. I've dined with a large group, with kids and just the wife and I and we've always received great service!I have to admit I didn't like it the first time I went in 2003 but, in the last 2 years the place has made a change for the better. They have really done a nice job of updating the appearence and they've improved the menu and the quality of the food. If you've been before and didn't like... try again and I think you'll be surprised.

FIrst Thai restaurant I tried and really fell in love with the food. Their salad rolls are yummy, along with the peanut chicken, over rice. Hard to find parking around there, but its worth the walk from wherever you may find parking.

PROS: great atmosphere, relics
CONS: parking

Reading the reviews and seeing that I wasn't the only one unimpressed with the service. However I don't go out to eat to make friends with the servers. I go for good food and that is what I got. Excellent vegetarian options as well as meat lovers delight. It is in the hot spot for shopping, night life and overall Portland mayhem which makes the parking annoying but the atmosphere lively. NOT romantic by any means but great for a group as they have long tables. Sorry about the kid review I hate when people act like having a kid is a disease. So being nice isn't their forte but Thai food is so go there anyway, just don't take your kids and don't expect to invite your server over to your house for dinner.

I love this restaurant! I think that they have the best salad rolls I have ever eaten, and the yellow curry is delish! I have to admit that sometimes the waitresses can be surly but they are usually prompt. I have never had a bad meal here and I have eaten at Beau thai dozens of times.

waited forever to get our drinks. ordered the spring rolls (which to me are not fried) and the waitress brought out what looked like spring rolls. half way through eating them she takes them away and says she made a mistake ( she had brought us salad rolls) and brings their version of spring rolls (fried). i got my entree 10 minutes before my husband got his entree, and mine wrong. his shrimp and pork dish had ALL of the shell left on it.

We met some friends here and took our 15-month old. After reading the reviews here, we saw that it had a "good for kids" rating that was somewhat favorable. Not the case. We had the ice queen for a waitress, rolling her eyes at other patrons every time she walked by our table. The manager was rude, and service was snotty at best. And no, our kid was not out of hand (he threw some food down -- we cleaned it up). On top of that, they crammed 4 adults and a baby into a tiny corner table, repeatedly placed hot plates of food in front of a one-year-old, and generally acted like they didn't want our business. No worries there -- we won't be back. Oh, the food was fair. Try Thai Ginger, where the food is excellent, parking is reasonable, and the service is top of the line.

Chic and cheap. The service doesn't hover. Flavorful options for vegans and carnivores. Surrounded by cute bars to spend the evening if things go well. They also have tables for large groups. Your pickiest friends should be able to find something they could eat here.

Beau Thai in NW is one of my wife and I's favorite restaurants. While it does not always adhear to its posted hours, the food is good and the service is consistent. A great place for Thai Coconut Soup!

My husband & I dined at Beau Thai last night; while some facets are stellar, others are questionable. Service was prompt if curt, food was hot and fresh. We got the combo appetizer plate and it is a great deal: decent-sized samples of several of their appetizers (the curry puffs are amazing, as is the peanut sauce and the plum (?) garlicky dipping sauce). For the rest of the meal, nothing tasted as we expected. The tom kha gai could use more coconut milk and is a bit too salty from too much fish sauce. The Duck with Panang curry was good, but an odd mix of flavors (heavy on pineapple) and the Pad Kee Mao was a bland and tasted more Italian than Thai (better with some peanut sauce the next day).

The sticky rice, mango and coconut desert was perfect after 4 courses of incredibly tasty dishes.
Can't remember a better Thai dinner!

This Thai restaurant is as popular for take-out as it is for eat-in, but that's certainly not because there's anything unpleasant about the dining room. It's a peaceful, pretty space with Asian carvings, dark wood and striking blue…
