It's very hard to read the negative reviews on here, although they're appreciated. As a long-time customer, I can very honestly say I have not found anyone I trust more than Woody with my reef tank. Small businesses are having a hard time in this economy and The Seahorse has not been spared. However, Woody remains the key link holding it all together and he will do ANYTHING it takes to make sure your tank is receiving the best care possible. The man cares so much for his customers and his hobby that he will treat your tank as though it's his own. Please give him a try. You won't be disappointed.

To help clarify..... Fish laying on their side are put into a coma type sleep. This is why fish are usually shipped in little water so they are forced on their side and sleeping. This is less stressful on the fish and creates little to no waste in the small amount of water while shipping. If you are going to comment on something first please know the facts. Almost every store recieves and acclimated fish in this way (buckets). If you frequent enough stores you will see it everywhere. For the fish a solid bucket is less stressful than being in a bag under bright lights unable to flee and scared to death! Every store will have dead fish its part of the hobby and part of being a store. May have been a sick batch, who knows. I see the occasional dead fish. If you didn't notice its not as easy for woody as it is for other people to be able to get to the tanks and remove fish right on the spot! Woody has a good selection of healthy fish and inverts and coral prices that cannot be beat anywhere. Wish you were not quite so far out of the Portland general area but its worth the drive. Friendly staff with tons of knowledge......... Thanks for all the helpful advice you have given in the past.

Pros: Large selection

Cons: location

The address is wrong. They have moved to 7501 NE 21st Ave. The website has directions. Also the shop has Woody as the only employee. Isaac is no longer there. The comment about fish in the buckets - this is the best way for fish to acclimate after a long shipping time.

There was an awesome selection of fish and coral and the customer service was great! I would recommend checking these guys out for a great selection of really healthy fish and corals. Thanks Woody and crew!

I personally think they have the best selection and customer service around.

Where do I begin?
I went in to the shop, saw some nice corals, but I looked over at their fish holding tanks and was quite amazed at how many dead fish were just lying there rotting. I didn't say anything to them, but if you spot 6 dead fish lying at the bottom of the tank in someones shop, something isn't right.
After I did some more gazing I decided to go ask some questions about a particular montipora I wanted. I approached the owner of the shop, Issac and his employee. I asked him what type of montipora it was, and he completely blew me off. I couldn't believe it! He flat out ignored me. I asked again and to my surprise it was the same response.
Like any rational person I left and will never go there again.

If you like poor quality fish, a selection of decent montipora, and to be judged as soon as you walk through the door then seahorse is just the place for you!

I will personally be shopping at Waves, Soutas Saltwater, and Upscales instead.

While shopping for an aquarium we contacted them interested in a used tank. The sales person was more interested in selling us an entire package rathan listen to what we already have and assisting with just what we need. Frustrating but affordable. Go with a strong head on your shoulders!

I went in to seahorse as a recommendation from a friend. I am a fanatic to the hobby and frequent all of the shops in the portland area. Seahorse by far has the best selection of rare coral and by far the best fish prices. The Barttlet's Anthias are exquisite. I also got an amazing acropora colony for an unheard of price. Those guys are the best. Thanks Seahorse.

I decided to check out this place, to set up my new tank, but I ended up leaving after less than five minutes. I was horrified when I saw fish in buckets without enough water to even be up straight. These fish had to lay on their sides just to be underwater. I didn't see any customer service at all. No one spoke or approched me or my husband the whole time we were there, even when I said hello walking in. I'm sure they have a good selection, but I would never buy from a place that treats their animals so cruelly.

PROS: didn't see any
CONS: how they treat their animals.

At first glance Woodys store might not get you to stop. But once youre inside youll keep coming back. Woody started an aquarium store out of his garage. There are lots of tanks with salt water fish and all kinds of other creatures you need for a salt water setup. The best part about Woodys is the service you receive. Woody goes out of his way to help you out with any problem or question you might have. Seahorse aquarium has a new location. Call for details.
