Best Car Shop In Town!!!
by Tonja
This shop rocks!!! I have been going here for almost 3 years now. As a girl who knows nothing about cars, they are very good at explaining everything to me. Great customer service, very knowledgeable, friendly and my car is always done when they say it will be. And the price is worth it!!!!! Never had a problem with something they fixed on my car. I will always go to All Around Automotive!!!!!!
Pros: Always Honest, good communication
Cons: I live far away now

Trustworthy and Affordable
by lesaphir
I took my car in very scared about what was wrong with it and how much it was going to cost me.
The lady there is very friendly and personable. She called me a couple of times throughout the day to keep me up on the findings and made an effort to remember and use my name in conversation, she also took the time to really explain to me what was going on with my car. I walked out of there feeling good, relieved and with far more money in my pocket than I anticipated.
If you need a good mechanic, I would recommend this one.
Pros: Reasonably priced, friendly staff
Cons: None

Best in Portland for CAR REPAIR and MAINTENANCE!!
by joangay
My husband and I have been very happy with all the services and professional staff at All Around for over 20 years. We have had excellent service and fair prices. We have taken all of our cars here for many services and Lube and Oils. We would suggest this shop for all repairs to anyone in the neighborhood and beyond. It's also a great neighborhood for walking and eating while you wait for your car.
Pros: great sevice and professional staff
Cons: none

Great shop .........
by RedDiver
I've been taking both of our cars here for the last couple of years. They keep you informed about what your car needs to have repaired rather then finding out that it's $500 more then what you expected when you pick it up. Friendly knowledgable staff too!!
Pros: Experts, knowledgable staff, clean & friendly neighborhood business
Cons: waiting area could be warmer on a cold winter day

excellent, fast service
by flimp
My car was running fine, but wouldn't pass DEQ. They were able to help me right when I walked in, and then rescheduled for more work easily and quickly, working around my schedule. The repair involved replacing someone else's wrong part, which had caused the problem. They offered affordable payment options, and explained everything they were doing, detailing time spent on every aspect of the repair on the receipt. They inspire confidence-I'll be back!
Pros: thorough explanations, quick excellent repair

Not worth the money
by ArnicaMontana
I took my car here because it's right by my house and my regular mechanic is way out in Sellwood. The first time was no biggie, they job was done right and done quicky, but it cost $80 for what I thought should have been 20 minutes of labor plus a $8 part. They explained to me that it was because they charge for diagnostics. The second time I took it in, though, they quoted me $500 for a new distributor cap and all the trimmings. For another $100 they said they would look at the carburetor, but they suggested skipping that if I was worried about cash. Something smelled fishy about that so I took my car in to my regular mechanic and those guys fixed my carb for $150, no fuss no muss. I was still out the $90 diagnostic charge from All Around, though. If there was ever anything wrong with the distributor cap I would be surprised, since this was over a year ago and I haven't had it replaced.
Pros: Good customer service
Cons: Misdiagnose, charge for diagnostics

GREAT STAFF/CUSTOMER SERVICE, HELPFUL, EXPLAINS THINGS STEP BY STEP AND TELLS WHY
by MMR08
I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER FOR MANY YEARS AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. EVERYTIME I NEED SOMETHING DONE THIS IS THE PLACE I COME FOR EVERYTHING(EVEN OIL CHANGES). WHEN THEY FIND THINGS MY CAR NEEDS OR THEY DISCOVER THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM I HAVE EXPLAINED THEY GET AN ESTIMATE TOGETHER FOR ME, BUT WHAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL FROM ANYWHERE ELSE I HAVE BEEN IS THEY GO THRU IT STEP BY STEP AND EXPLAIN WHY IT NEEDS WHAT THEY RECOMMENDED, AND ANY QUESTIONS I HAVE THEY TAKE THE TIME TO ANSWER. NEEDLESS TO SAY MY CAR IS IN TIP TOP SHAPE THANKS TO THEM AND I WILL REMIAN A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE. THEY ARE ECO-FRIENDLY WHICH IS A HUGE PLUS, THEY TAKE THE TIME TO CARE ABOUT THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. THANKS.
Pros: COMFORTABLE DOING BUSNIESS WITH, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY

Less than overwhelmed
by pjjohnsen
Based on the previous review and since this place is 5 blocks from my house, I decided to give it a try for the following problems with my car:
1) fan belts were making noise on start-up
2) check engine light was on.
For #1, they did a great job.
For #2, they told me there was a $90 check-out fee. I said o.k. (but later learned that Autozone and
other parts stores will "pull the codes" (as my car is newer than 1996 and has OBD-2 system on it)
for free.
So after $90, they told me they thought it was the oxygen sensor and that the part cost $250 + around
$50 to install and reconfirm that the problem went away (pull the codes, again?).
Having done an O2 sensor by myself on a Jeep Cherokee for $80 many years ago, I thought $250 sounded high, so I called the dealer to get a cross reference on the cost of the part and they told me $140 for it.
At that point, I told them to forget it.
I took the car to another independent mechanic, explained my situation and they priced an oxygen sensor at $100 + $70 installation. They also said it is an insult to charge for a check engine light check on a modern car. In the end, the second mechanic actually found it was not the oxygen sensor but a variable valve timing sensor on one bank of a V engine. And now the check engine light is out. I am glad that I stopped where I did with All Around Automotive. They are excellent at changing belts though. They are also earth-friendly, but for me not pocket friendly.
