I've come here many times over the years.

I was saddened to read a couple of reviews on Citysearch and learn quality had declined since the change in ownership.

Not so, If anything the omelet was better than that served before. As mentioned in a previous review, there is no longer a second big plate dedicated to hash brown potatos..but I never felt the need for several pounds of potatos to accompany a seven egg omelet.

I am a very large and extremely gluttonous individual... nevertheless, I boxed up about half of my breakfast.

I am delighted that I still have a favorite breakfast place in Se Portland

New name KETTLE INN CAFE-Our Local Andy Carson from KPTV did his Weather segments from this Fabulous Restaurant, I've never been there and soon as Husband saw portions of Food and heard it was homemade food, We had to visit. We LOVED it. The Food was outstanding and the Best hashbrowns I've ever had. My husband had a Huge Hamburger loaded with the works and Clam Chowder I had Chicken fried steak & eggs and Hashbrowns with scones. Awesome friendly service, Small inside-Limited seating and they Only do Breakfast & Lunch so they close around 3pm-Priced for any budget.
Hamburger was Real Hamburger and huge and came with crinkle fries (YUM) , Also the Clam Chowder was thick and very yummy.
Chicken Fried Steak was Also enough to share, it was Giant too and had an addictive flavor. Excellent Gravy. The Hashbrowns were so so good and the eggs were too, You could tell they were cooked from a very well seasoned grill and that makes a difference. If You haven't been there, You must GO GO GO.
I think Me & My Husband just found Our Secret Place to eat-hahaha

My girlfriend and I made it a goal to dine at Pa's Kettle once a week for breakfast. We've never had their lunch or dinner, but thoroughly enjoy their breakfast. We always ordered the sausage an cheese omelette, served with a full plate of hash browns, and a side of scones. The scones were huge fluffy, soft baked doe just like an elephant ear without the cinnamon served with strawberry jam. Everything was perfect. The omelette always cheesy and loaded with sausage. It was simply the best breakfast joint in town! However Pa's Kettle was sold. My girlfriend and I were off to get breakfast at the newly painted "Pa's Place." Not only had the the place been painted, the menu had changed as well as the food. The omelette and was small, the sausage was gross and much smaller. The scones were not at all the same. It was a big bummer. :( bring back the good ol Pa's Kettle!! Please Ma, we miss the good cooking.

Cons: Changed menu, loss of food quality

Ma sold the place. Very sad. The new "Kettle Inn" took me by surprise. The new owners have painted inside and out. Nice change and should have stopped there. The menu has changed and so has the quality of food.

It is very sad to see them change the food. A staple for years for old and young now is gone. The chicken fried steak is no longer. It is now 2 deep fried patties of Denny's quality CFK. I was actually told by a employee they changed the CFK because there was not enough room on the grill!!! Nice excuse. My friend and I looked at each other and almost bursted out in laughter when we heard that! Ma did for years even with a packed house. No room on the grill? Change that to a bigger one, its the food that counts. They changed everything else. More sad changes are the famous scones. The scones aren't even close to the original. I was told they were given the original recipe but the kitchen could not duplicate it right. Portions have shrunk. No more second plate just for hash browns. Even if it was to much food it was bragging rights for Pa's and customers. There is no more choice for french toast either.

The employees are very nice and accomodating to all the new questions but the new owners could have saved them the hassle by sticking to the bones that made the place so unique and good. I totally think there will be a change over in customers. I think all the original customers including myself will not be visiting the "kettle" ever again until it's back to the good ol' way. Thumbs down, No rose, 1 Star, and a shedding of tears from my left eye.

Pros: Hmmmmmmmm

Cons: Big changes to the food does not help.

Pa's serves something they call a scone with breakfast. They are nothing like a scone, which is good...in fact, very good. Their "scones" resemble a beignet and are made with yeast dough and deep fried. they are served piping hot with honey butter and they are to die for. The other food is good too in a basic breakfast way. I have a couple of friends who look like lumberjacks and they swear by the chicken fried steak. This is one of the few restaurants where they get portions large enough to satisfy their lumberjack-size appetites. Pa's also has an incredibly friendly atmosphere. the first time I was there, a guy got up from a table, picked up the coffeepot and came over and refilled our cups. i assumed it was the owner, sitting down chatting with someone, but then later someone got up from the counter and did the same things. It seems that the customers help out here. I've even seen some of them bus their own dishes. You gotta love this place!

Pros: Big portions. Love those scones

Cons: Heart attack on a plate

.

I love the food, price, portion & the customer service there! The service is excellent, even though its very short-staffed & extremely busy for breakfast. The biscuit & gravy is awesome, but pretty much everything on the menu is to die for. The price is very reasonable & I always seem to have left-overs no matter how much I eat. I've recommended this place to several of my family and friends & they all LOVE it. The atmosphere is very cozy, its not fancy & the menu is very cute. Its definitely a family restaurant without the frills & I always try to come here at least 3-4x a month, but make sure you got room in your belly for it.

Pa's is the best. When I walk into pa's , I get smiles from every table.
We , my husband and I , and My oldest daughter 16, and her boyfriend, truly enjoy
then sense of community that the elderly and the young share. You can sit next to a table
of perfect strangers and have new friends, and new memories to walk out with along with a
satisfied stomach and left overs for later. Ma gives the place a special touch with her gentle
humor and her abilitiy to sit down and chat with everyone for a while. The sons and daughters give the place the feel of being taken back in time to home cooked meals, general talk of how the days go. Most customers share their laughs and ups and downs, and there is genuine caring and interest. If you want to feel of sharing a family table, down to earth talk, and to simply be
yourself and meet new people, well then pa and ma have it for you. And their cooking and quantity is just a bonus :) ..

Pros: Great food < HUGE servings.. family friendly.. A sense of community.

Cons: needs a bigger place, with large trestle style tables to really give it a touch of old style sharing

For those that remember the old Mt Hood Cafe, that's Pa's. Over generous portions, great prices, friendly service. Just good old fashioned down home cooking. Comfort food like Grama or Mom used to make. I can take my family of 4 for breakfast, get out for under $25 and take home enough for munching later. The omelets are to die for, but for a special treat I go by myself for steak & eggs with scones (nothing better than the ones fresh from the vat, so hot you end up with the honey butter melting so fast if just drips). Of course, if my timing is just right I'll get an extra order or two of scones to go with some chicken bisque for lunch.

We LOVE Pa's Kettle! It is an old "hole-in-the-wall" and you know that those are the best places!

The food is great! Fresh scones, which are really not scones at all, but more like deep fried donuts. Piping hot and served with butter and Pa's homemade strawberry jam, it's a decadent treat!

The breakfast special is cheap and too much for one person. Their omelets are massive (5-egg) and also enough for 2 people. Tell them you want french toast on the side, and you will get 5-6 pieces and it's included in the omelet price!

It is a family friendly place. Pa's wife and assorted sons and daughters help out and they have always been sweet to my kids. They let the kids and customers go behind the counter to get things if needed.

The only downfall is that they accept cash or checks only.

Try it--you'll like it!
