Wow! I love this place! The staff was friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in my animals. Dr. Nell was very knowledgeable about both traditional vet medicine and holistic care. There was no pressure to buy anything at all, and the prices are great.
Dr. Nell, her assistant and the front desk staff are all friendly & informative. My cat had a skin problem that required treatment & diagnosis -- she received high-quality attention for both. Being on limited income, I appreciate the itemized list of expenses and the explanations of what is intended by procedure or medicine. The advice I received from Dr. Nell has led to the clearing of my girl's condition and we are both grateful.
Dr. Nell and her staff are the epitome of professionalism and compassion. They took such good care of our Lucy at her worst, and had the utmost empathy when we had to let her go. I would never take my animals anywhere else. We've had great experiences with every member of their staff. Although they are primarily western medicine vets, they are very open to, and even suggested and helped us with eastern practices, such as acupuncture. Our sick cat was treated like part of their family, and we can't thank them enough.
Even when we were just bringing in our foster kittens (and the doctor's time was voluntary) we received the same excellent service and dedication. We had one foster kitten who had a very tough time with URI and an eye infection and with their help she was able to keep her sight. It's no wonder that when we finally adopted we chose Lombard Animal Hospital as our veterinary provider!
We've had a great experience at Lombard and with Dr. Nell. They've been very up front about our pet's health and have always checked with us about the costs in advance. They give lots of information in order to make decisions, do great follow-up and are much more personal than the experiences we've had with other corporate businesses. We would highly recommend them.
Dr. Preston Turano is one of the most compassionate people I know, so I find this very hard to believe. On the other hand, each is entitled to his or her own opinion.
However, regarding diagnostic tests and treatments, all clients at Lombard Animal Hospital are given an estimate detailing these procedures and their cost before any are performed by the doctors. It is our policy and usually prevents misunderstandings. I am sorry one must have occurred, despite our efforts, in this case.
Of course I consider our hospital 5 star :) and all are welcome to come by and meet our doctors and wonderful staff. We truly have the best intentions while working with you and your pets!

If you are able to have your pet only see Dr. Nell Ostermeier, you can be assured of a careful, caring examination and a sensitivity to client's budget. Unfortunately, it is random as far as who you will end up with on a given day. Dr. Preston Turano is prickly, tends to sermonize and proceeds with multiple tests without checking with the client first. Be prepared for an unpleasant interaction and a whopping big bill!!!

My wife and I have been bringing our dog and cat to Lombard Animal Hosp. for 7 years. We've always had good experiences, particularly after Nell and her husband took over the practice about 1 1/2 yrs ago.
More importantly, when we recently had to put our dog down, the staff and Dr. Nell were fantastic. All the staff had hugs and comforting words for us (we were basket cases). And the next day we got flowers and a card from Dr. Nell and the staff. I can't say enough about this wonderful treatment.
