I've been playing for over 30yrs, and having had work done all over the city of Portland,12fret to Portland Music, and some very well known builder. and I can say you will not find a better Luthier than Jim, as well as being honest and knowing his trade. He's very helpful, he's worked on Vintage guitars well over 10K for me and his work is the best, and his prices are very fair, I wouldn't be afraid to have him refret my 59 Stratocaster when it needs it. Can't say enough good about this man.

The BEST place in town, I will never let anybody else touch my instruments. From everything to setups to serious restoration, Jim is the man.

I've taken three or four guitars to Jim for various types of work and every time, they've come back amazingly playable and exactly how I needed them. From simple setups to complex repairs, he's really the only person I would trust with my instruments. And he's cool, too, which is nice, unlike the vegetables at the 12th Fret. If you want the best, go to Guitar Works.

I own a vintage Martin D-28 that required a substantial amount of work. It had cracks in the top and needed to have the braces under the top replaced which required taking the back off the guitar. I had first shown the guitar to 12th Fret to look at and they declined to work on it. They told me it was a very difficult repair that was outside their comfort level. I then got referred to Jim by my guitar instructor, Alan Jones. Jim looked it over and quoted me a very reasonable price. I was amazed when I saw his completed work. You cannot see any evidence that the back was taken off. Jim also scalloped the new braces for me at no additional charge. The guitar looks beautiful, it plays like a dream and he improved the sound quality immensely.

Amazing! Highly recommended! I recently snapped the headstock on my beloved Les Paul Standard. I did not trust this repair to any shop I had been to in Portland. I was referred to Jim at PGW by a trusted guitar dealer here in Portland. The quality of Jim's work in truly incredible! I mean you cannot even tell the break ever even happened! The lacquer match was perfect! Jim even insisted that I bring the guitar back in a month or two to give it a final wet sand and final once over at no additional charge. When I first arrived, Jim told me ??I want you to be completely happy with the repair? and I could not be happier. Thank you Jim! I will never use any one else again. .

40+ yrs playing; 25+ yrs teaching; owned SCORES of guitars and do work myself. But when I need another pair of hands, I ONLY go to Jim Lowenherz, I have for at least 15 yrs. Jim, owner of GUITAR WORKS, as a player, repair man, AND human being is simply stellar. I can't overstate it, he's the best. jc

Jim has set up a couple of my guitars now and he does beautiful work. He is attentive to doing exactly what you want and never seems hurried to shoo you out of his workshop. Great guy, great work and reasonable pricing. Class all the way! SB
