The Bomber is a family friendly restaurant. Free pancakes for kids at breakfast and a great breakfast special weekdays. Take the time to look through the museum.

A lot has changed since I first went to this restaurant. They have re-modeled the building, which scrapped a lot of the charm the place once had. The B-17 outside literally looks like it's decaying. So, they restore the plane on donations; I see a lot of papers on the wall from people who have donated such money--where are the donations going? Restoring the building of the restaurant? Poor choice. The place was fine the way it was.
Worse, the signature food is going downhill, as well. The 'Bomber Burger,' where you get a "prize" if you can eat it all, has undergone a huge sizedown. An average customer could eat this burger, I think. If you can eat the whole burger, you get a computer-generated 'certificate' and a free sundae. I think I could have left the place with about 4 of those certificates.
The price. Ugh. Too much. This seems to be the trend with a lot of restaurants, though, so The Bomber isn't the only one at fault here--prices go up, the food goes down. That Bomber Burger, that Art Lacey invented years ago to be on a grand scale, is now a Wimpy burger. I think Art would cry.
And that's not all he'd cry over--the waiter, a teenager, looked like he was on something, and I'm NOT kidding. He lingered at our table LONG after we'd told him everything was OK, one thing that turns me off to a restaurant in a major way. And when I say a LONG time, I'm talking approximately 30 seconds. He must have been hired from the Goodwill leftovers, or something.
I can still see the Bomber of my childhood in my mind. Giant plane, flourescent lights beaming from the bottom of the wings, the whole thing glistening wonderfully as my Grandfather pulled up beneath it to fill up with gas. It remains a pleasant memory, as does the food when I first tried this place a few years ago. Sad to see it take a plunge. I hope they'll get their act back together soon. And FIX THAT PLANE!!!!

Pros: Historic Milwaukee Landmark; Food was good.

Cons: Food portions smaller than usual; historic building remodeled; B-17 Bomber in BAD condition

Never mind the plane (real not a model) sitting out front, come here for the food. It is reasonably priced, old time favorites and very plentiful. There are a couple of daily specials, so you may want to learn when your favorites are being served. Friends claim the liver & onions are the best they ever had. The clam strips are surf clams, similar to razor clams and they are excellent. Full breakfast & lunch menus also. I can't think of anything we ever were disappointed in. Caution - there is not the place to take vegetarians or those watching thier health.

PROS: Old fashioned cooking (taste)
CONS: Old fashioned cooking (fat, sugar, etc)

Not so good trying to talk on a cell phone when the staff is celebrating a birthday of a diner and group across from us. The cymbals were the worst part. My son wondered where the usual breakfast menu was. Things had to be pointed out to him. Sometimes he is not too swift. :-) It was all there. You just have to find things buried in a large menu. Very friendly place with lots of food at a very modest price.

Words usually uttered as we roll out of the Bomber after another huge breakfast. Where else in town can you order an omelette for six bucks and get a huge plate full of food. I'm a big guy and can only eat half of the plate. I wish I could vouch for the whole menu, but every time I go, I get the same things...The ham & cheese Bomblette and the Bomber Burger....Looking for good food, huge portions and cozy atmosphere...try the Bomber.

FANTASTIC! I remember the gas station as a kid and never entered the restaurant until a friend talked me into it a year or so ago. Glad he did! Awesome portions, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, for the dollar. Excellent memorabillia on the walls, and that famous landmark Bomber outside still gets to me. My wife and I eat here at least once a month. The only problem: too crowded on Fri-Sat nights, not enough booths.

Pros: Fantastic portions, Wall memorabillia, Add'l 4sale items

Cons: Too few booths, Crowded on Fri-Sat., I can't live nextdoor
