We discovered Watchworks last year when I was in the market for a fine automatic Swiss watch. Sales and after sales service have been excellent.
From my experience, Alex stands behind his products and truly wants to make his customers

I have been coming here for years to repair family heirloom watches and regular watches. On the last visit, Alex pointed out that the watch had four batteries and advised me of the cost prior to the repair.

Honest service, I will

I originally went in to Watchworks to get a birthday gift for my husband (he has always wanted a Hamilton) and discovered that they also had a custom jeweler! I had some old, out of date items I had inherited but I didn't know what to do

I have been a customer for 15 years and always had great customer service and been treated fairly. I have bought many fine watches from Watchworks and their prices are very fair for the high quality watches they sell. I just had my watch

My first experience here was nice but the 2nd time around was terrible. The guy told me my watch would probably need 2 batteries/ -Who ever heard of a watch needing more than one battery. As I've replaced this watch battery several times I

Purchased yet another watch from Watch Works. I love the watch, and I loved the service. Still need to collect on my previously offered watch buffing, but overall it's a great shop.

I found this store while on vacation in Portland. I've always wanted a Panerai, and there it was in the window on display. I walked in and George was so helpful in showing me the watches. I ended up with the Panerai luminor with power reserve. If you are into watches, and want a fair price on the watch, this is the place for you. I looked on ebay, but I'm still the type who wants to see it first, touch it, and then buy it from a real person in front of me. I will be back, and I will buy again. Duncan was very helpful also. I can tell these guys share my passion for watches.

Pros: selection of watch brands

Cons: none

I have been a customer of Alex for over 20 years. First in the little store and now in the larger location. I have bought and sold many items over the years. Alex knows and understands all of his merchandise and knows the true value of each item.
It is not a transaction sale it is a relationship sale. A truley unique place to shop and just stop in to visit.

Pros: fair price and good advice on what is good and what is not

Cons: none

Great store, would love to support. But I can't risk being served by their up-selling, inaccurate, rude, (seems to be) youngest member of staff anymore. A complete tosser, always tries to sell me something I didn't ask for when I get in there. I won't be back. Not good enough for such important purchasing decisions.

Upon entering, the service was prompt and sincerely cheerful. I needed a watch band adjusted, and for a fair charge I was on my way out with an exact fit. I wish that every business, especially restaurants, could possess Alex's level of pride in their service. This is the place I will be purchasing my next time piece. Carter rocks.

Pros: Top level of knowledge, service and expertise.

Cons: The MAX station freak show across the street.

On January 4, 2007, I purchased an early 1950s Hamilton "Railroad Special" pocket watch from Watchworks. The watch is working perfectly, and I am truly enjoying it. This is the type pocket watch I have dreamed of for years, and it was my good fortune to walk into the Watchworks store on a beautiful
evening while on a business trip to Portland.

Mr. Hofberg, the owner, spent 15 or 20 minutes with me explaining the history of railroad
watches. He explained the history of these special pocket watches and the history with the railways in detail. I was impressed me with his knowledge, and he did not use any pressure sales technique (he is simply an avid watch man). It was a memorable experience, and I will enjoy the watch for years to come.

I would highly recommend this watch company to anyone looking for a new, used, or collectible watches. I am not a collector myself, but he carries a broad product line and happened to have exactly what I was looking for.

Pros: Nice downtown location; highly knowledgable staff; excellent selection

I'm not an avid watch collector, and in fact have only one "nice" watch (due to lack of disposable income, not lack of interest!), but I do know a fair amount about them, and Alex's has a very decent mid-range selection (in the four-figure range, give or take a little). They do offer some pre-owned pieces as well as new ones. Yes, they can be a bit more expensive and have less of a selection than if you shop online, but their prices are certainly lower than jewelry stores in the area. Besides, it's unfair to compare a bricks-and-mortar business to an online shop for reasons that should already be self-evident. (In case they aren't, I'll point out the most significant one -- overhead). But what you may give up in terms of a slightly lower price you'll gain in personalized attention and the security of knowing exactly whom it is that you are buying from. I suppose that where you choose to shop depends on which of those is more important to you.

Their service is impeccable. I took my watch in to have two links removed from the bracelet, and the gentleman who did it was efficient and professional. He didn't even charge me, and simply wished me 'happy holidays'. It's interactions like those that will bring me back when I'm in the market for another watch.

Pros: service, quality

I have shopped at Alex's for 18 years...having collected Rolex for more than 20 years. I have always found an unbelievable variety of new and top condition, previously owned watches (every QUALITY brand you can think of). His prices are always off-the-hook low!!!

As for service, Paul has been working with Alex since a long time ago (twelve years or more). This guy is a watch MASTER and he is always glad to take a look and fix it while you wait.

The combination of these two boils down to a kick-as.. pair of sales and service that you cannot replicate on the west coast. Want more? Call me...503.936.8879

I came in to get some links removed from a brand new watch I bought online for $2K, their price for a similar used one was $2K so shop online first. They did have a decent selection of used Rolex and Omega as well as a couple of Panerai watches. Fairly quick service, I winced while watching the watch "repairer" removing the links since he was undoubtedly scratching up my brand new watch. The bracelet was pretty well scratched up when I got it back, no big deal for me since I was planning on wearing this watch daily. I won't go back there for work on my more expensive watches in the future though.
