Very nice bookstore. I usually prefer Powell's or Barnes & Noble, but this Borders is much closer to where I live. It has a very nice atmosphere, very friendly employees. I can easily spend hours there in a book.

I've used the Gresham Borders as my "intellectual 'man-cave'" for awhile now. It's a great place to hang around, read, and people-watch too. My only complaint is that you have to ask at the counter for a token to get into the bath-room but I suppose that is because in the past people used to stop by only to use the facilities and wouldn't browse.

I've never ordered coffee or food their - I guess I'm always too afraid I'll drink or eat up through one of the books and be forced to buy it. The staff is very nice and helpful. The only time I would avoid this establishment would be during Christmas when they have annoyingly cloying Christmas music playing that gets extremely repetatitive if you're there for more than half an hour or so. That, plus the alternate mixes of Beatles songs - they play annoy me too can't say why they just do. Otherwise, it's a great place with quite a bit of selection. Ordering anything not in stock at the store is a synch too and usually takes less than a week to get there.

I usually only write nice reviews, but once and a while something happens where you just have to say something about it. I had a really ugly experience at the Seattle's Best cafe at the Gresham Borders. Being in customer service myself, I am reluctant to complain unless the barista's behavior is really out of line. It was.

My mom and I ordered a drink that they were apparently out of. No problem. The barista said that they would be getting the ingredients in the next day. Again, no problem. I said, "We won't be here tomorrow."

The barista responded "that's okay" with a tone that implied "Good riddance, I'm glad." Then she blew us off as we were still standing there at the counter by asking the man behind us what he would like.

It was just incredibly ugly all around. I guess you had to be there to pick up on the tone, but I really wanted to say something about it. Portland is such a friendly area that when someone is that hateful, it really sticks out.

The whole incident took place around 1:15 on Sunday August 17th. You might want to avoid this place on Sundays if that barista is working. She really should not be doing any type of customer service. A very scary person....

If you want a fun place to go on a rainy day or just to relax and and sit a while and hang out, then I suggest Borders Books Music & Cafe in Gresham. They not only appeal to your love of reading and music they also have a great little cafe which serves up a wonderful cup of java and great food for your palette as well as live entertainment on certain evenings. Also a great place to relax, read and listen to good music with the kids too, they have a wonderful children's section. The staff is awesome and very willing to help you find what your looking for.

PROS: Warm, welcoming, & relaxing atmosphere great selections of books & music
CONS: more couches or comfy chairs to curl up into

They have a great selection and a fabulous kids area to sit and read for a bit. The staff seems a bit stuffy but there are plenty to offer help. I would like to see more couches to sit on. The displays are attractive and there never seems to be space on the shelves. They fill their inventory very quickly and have a great selection.

This is a bookstore I was not real familiar with, as I don't have one near my home. The closest one to me is in Downtown Seattle (over a hour away). When we were visiting Portland Oregon last year we stopped in here. It was so great that I wished we did have one near. You walk in and become relaxed instantly and the customer service reps were willing to help us find what we were looking for instantly.

Some Borders are different than others.
This one carries more metaphysical
books than some of the others which
I enjoy. The staff is always great as well.
