Pastini is a good, solid reliable neighborhood Italian chain that does have pretty good pasta. The sauces are well done and the staff attentive. I always get fettucine!\r

We were in the Lloyd district on business and stopped by this place on a whim. It was incredible, I had the BUTTERNUT SQUASH-GORGONZOLA RAVIOLI and I can honestly say it is the best ravioli I have ever had. I usually prefer a simple cheese ravioli but this ravioli was amazing and it was cheap too. Wow is all I can say.

I also had the Tiramisu for desert which was OK but nothing spectacular.

Overall this place was way beyond what I would expect to find in such a nondescript place but I will go back the next time I am in Portland. Wow!

Pastini has great italian food at a low cost. The service is great and the food comes very quickly. I go often and have for years and the service is consistant!

This was my first visit to Pastini and I enjoyed every minute of it. Not only was the customer service delightful but the food was awesome! I ordered a pasta dish with seafood and loved every bite of it. The portions are HUGE and I left Pastini stuffed, while paying a very affordable price. For the low prices and large quality and quality of food that you receive, I highly recommend Pastini to anyone on the fence of which Italian restaurant to visit. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with the menu considering it was my first time eating at Pastini. I can't wait to go back there again.

I went to Pastini for a quick business lunch last week and had a good experience. The service and food were both great. Our server was both knowledgeable and attentive. I started off with the Roasted Artichoke spread with Bruschetta. This wasn??t Olive Garden style Bruschetta?the ingredients were obviously fresh and not frozen, making for a great appetizer. For my main entre, I had a Tomato & Mozzarella Grilled Panini. Just like the previous mentioned item, the Panini was piping hot, and the Mozzarella was fresh. It was a taste of Italia in Portland! I highly recommend Pastini and I promise that you won??t be disappointed!

Went in here on a hot afternoon and ordered salad - I know it's a pasta joint but it was too hot for pasta. Was seated at one of the raised booths along the wall, the table was so insanely wobbly we dared not drink our water. Requested another table which was met with much tutting by the staff; moved to a regular table with comments from same staff about moving us back to the wobbly one once it was fixed . The restaurant was empty apart from 3 other tables so I don't understand what the big deal was. Salad arrived, seemed old, the lettuce was limp and soaked with dressing like it had been standing un-refrigerated for some time. Bread accompanied the salad, a piece of which appeared to have been previously half eaten by someone else. Not my kind of place.

I went to Pastini for lunch and had a warm welcome from the server. The atmosphere is always warm and inviting, and the food is great comfort food at a reasonable price, and less than other pasta places. I had the Capellini Pomodoro with fresh tomatoes, garlic and basil. The Insalata Vedure has a delicious roasted tomato vinagrette. This Pastini is close to Lloyd Center, so a quick trip to the mall is easy before heading back out to work. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for service, great food and value.

Pastini has great pasta choices at a great price! We go to the Broadway Pastini and love the inviting atmosphere. The lasagna has a hearty meat sauce with mushrooms, and plenty of cheese. There is something for everyone with lots of vegetarian options, and you can substitute wheat free or gluten free pasta, too! This local eatery even serves up local Pearl Bakery bread! Pasta plates are about ten dollars, which is a real deal!

It's nice and the food is good, but charging for bread?? How hard up are they to make a buck? This just seems wrong.

We love Pastini's! You can get a great meal plus appetizers for two for under $30. Our favorite is the Rigatoni Bolongese and the Ensalade Verde. The service is usually fast, food is hot and fresh. They have great desserts too.

Pros: Good Italian food for a fantastic price

Cons: Parking around Broadway is a pain, this location is one of the smaller Pastini's so can be kind of a tight squeeze--not recommended for a large group.

My husband and I tried the downtown Pastini?s for the first time last night and we were quite impressed. We prefer to support local restaurants and don?t particularly care for the chains. Come to find out, Pastini is locally owned & features bread from the Pearl Bakery! (And they even have a Pastini MySpace page).

Their menu & wine list were extensive. I tried the baked ziti with sausage and my husband had the spaghetti & meatballs, along with some Chianti. Yum! Both dishes had sauces that were rich & flavorful and the meatballs were nearly the size of baseballs. They do live up to their name ? authentic Italian bistro.

I'm not an Italian cuisine snob, but I know what is good Italian and when they aren't even trying. We tried this place out a few weeks ago and were not impressed with the sauces or the service. We decided to give it another chance this week thinking it might have been a fluke. This time I asked for a suggestion of a great dish with rich creamy sauce. The waitress had no suggestions. I went ahead and ordered a chicken pasta dish that was described to have a creamy Alfredo sauce with sun dried tomatoes. The chicken was processed cubed chicken, there was so little sauce that I asked the waitress if they had forgotten to put it on. She said, " oh no it's there." I then asked for a side of a little Alfredo sauce. I was brought a small watery cup of scorched milk. No apologies, no discount. The other 3 folks with us had similarly awful dishes. None of us were able to gag down even half our entree's. Why is this place often packed with customers? We will not return.

It was hard at first to decide on a Recommended rating for Pastini. Then I realized I would only be docking them points because they're a chain restaurant, a tireless machine of pasta slinging bliss. Yet, they accomplish their mission with deft organization, varied dishes, and most of all low prices. My wife got a shrimp dish and I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara. The latter of which is a white sauce with peas, peppers, and bacon. This is where their value is, even though it was between 8 and 9 dollars for each of our plates they were hearty portions. Not just a plate full of pasta, I had a succulent mound of bacon with my creamy noodles. I ate every last bite so completely that the dish washer must have been beside himself pondering whether or not the plate had been used. The only fault on Pastini's part tonight was being a chain, they do seem to cater to the standard American palate. Entrees and salads are flavorful but devoid of any kind of spice. Caesar salad was lacking in any evident garlic or sardine aroma, and my pasta which boasted of pepper on the menu was sublime in heat. I'm a Thai food enthusiast by nature and love some soulful spice. The waitress was kind enough to bring me some crushed red pepper when queried and our food was relished. The value continues when you take a peak at the wine list. They have one of my favorites in the Cascina Castl'e --- a bottle that retails between 16-20 plus at your favorite grocery store, for a 23 dollars on the menu. Glasses range anywhere from a meager 5-6.5 and they usually do a pretty deep pour. Even with a packed house, we received a 10 minute wait. We'll definitely be going back, it's somewhere ahead of Olive Garden and Romano's--- yet not quite as polished as some of the "real" Italian food in town like Nostrana or Gino's. Then again, you're probably looking for Italian inspired on the cheap, and it doesn't get any better than this.

Pros: Good value for good pasta. Quick seating. Generous portions for the price

Cons: Italian food that hides in the closet from spice. Still retains flavor.

Been here at least half a dozen times. Today we ordered spaghetti and meatballs substituting bolognese sauce for marinara. Spaghetti & Meatballs on menu is 7.95. We were charged 9.75 for the substitution and got 1 meatball less than the menu item. If we'd ordered the bucatini with Italian sausage, 2 meatballs and bolognese sauce we'd of paid 9.75. Okay, so they don't know how to price changes. When we spoke to the head waiter, he was insistent on explaining his restaurant's policy, right down to how they measure the sauces for each dish. Bottom line, he was more invested in explaining his restaurant's policy than making us comfortable as diners: "If you want, we can make an adjustment." How about, "Let me make this adjustment for you." Difference between a return visit and a flaming review.

My wife and I love going to Pastini. We are somewhat food snobs because we dine out for lunch and dinners multiple times a week. That said, we love the food at Pastini. I have eaten nearly every dish on the menu and have always found it to be delicious. Their ingredients are fresh and their preparation is perfect.

In addition to the quality food, the service is top notch and always friendly. They really strive to go beyond your expectations. As for the prices, you cannot beat them. Where else can you and a spouse have a nice, classy meal, and a few glasses of wine for less than $30? That's less expensive than groceries!!

We absolutely love it and highly recommend it to all our friends!

I was craving pasta and Pastini delivered. The waitress was friendly and attentive even after a group of 8 came in after my friend and I. I had a delicious linguine with red pepper cream sauce and chicken. My friend enjoyed his baked ziti also. I found everything to be tasty, especially the bread, and the service was good. (The price was right also.)

As the mother of two young children, I so wanted to like this local place. I've tried it 3 seperate times, but I refuse to lower my standards this much. Pasta is consistently overcooked. Sauces are watery and minimalist, with almost no flavor. Pasta with tomato and fresh basil seemed to have 2 tablespoons of flavorless chopped tomato and one slivered basil leaf on it, oh, and a puddle of water at the bottom of the bowl. The prices, while "low", are still ridiculously high for what is set before you. All the dishes lack evidence of quality ingredients (where is the fruity aroma of olive oil? the richness of reduced red wine? the snap of fresh lemon? the complexity of sauteed garlic or carmelized onion?), Heaping grated cheese over everything that exits the kitchen (even the linuini with white clam sauce!) does not mask the fact that the emperor has no clothes. Pass this place by, go home and cook a package of Ronzoni to a proper al dente texture, and serve it with pantry sauce- right out of the jar, and you will have a better meal!

Cons: terrible food quality, prices, pretentions to authenticity

Our dining experience was very disappointing. The food was bland and the meat in the meat sauce was extremely dry. Cesear salad was weak as well. The highlight of our meal was the beer and the bread, and according to the menu the bread actually came from the Pearl Bakery. I am amazed at the postive reviews this place has received on this site.

I went in to Pastini with my two daughters the other night and came out feeling very dissapointed with both the service, and the food. None of our pastas were cooked correctly and the sauces were bland. The service was not up to parr either; my waitress seemed a bit edgy. I had been into the 23rd location of Pastini two other times, and both those times were just O.K. Nothing to rave about.

Pastini's is my favorite restaurant in the Lloyd district............This is where to go when you want fabulous Italian cooking and a comfortable casual atmosphere. The recipies are delicious... many great dishes to choose from. I absolutely LOVE the bread... it's just perfect. If it's not lunch time (or maybe if it is!!), don't forget a glass of Chianti. If you care about price then you have nothing to worry about here. Well done Pastini's!

I've been going to Pastini's since it opened and it has been one of my favorites since. I think any comparison of Pastini's to Olive Garden is completely off base. Pastini's doesn't overwhelm you with sauce, and feels much more like a home cooked meal. I agree that the bread is not so great, so I think it's good that they don't serve a whole basket of it. I'd rather pay less for my meal than have that thrown in.

Although the service was very friendly and the restaurant was clean, it just reminded me too much of the Olive Garden. The servings were adequate at best and the food was good, but nothing about the standard Italian food that could served from Sandy to Canby. A good deal for the price and the take out service is great when your tired and hungry.

I've been here several times, the food is always wonderful, they have all of the normal Italian dishes, and some other interesting combinations as well. It is a good family place, with the noise, you do not have to worry about kids talking to loud. It could be good for groups if you call ahead.
Downside, it is usually crowded, but do you really want to go to a restaurant that is always empty?Parking is not very good.

Well i've been here before and ordered salads everytime. I decided to try their ravoli and when i got it there was a small amount in the middle of a large bowl. I counted nine raviolis and the a small pool of sauce. I never send things back but this was ridiculous a child wouldn't even get full off of this portion. I was honest and told the waiter this was ridiculous and she told me they weighed out all of their dishes but they give you mostly sauce.. So you pay nine dollars for nine raviolis. I was very disappointed and would reccomend ordering a pasta with an oil based light sauce like my friend did if you want to get a reasonable portion size.

Two of us shared the artichoke-garlic bruschetta and a small Caesar salad, then each ordered an entree plus one cocktail each for the amazing price of $40, including tip. Pretty amazing considering the deliciousness of food & drinks, generous portions (we each took some of our entree home), and pleasant service. We sat by the window where it's more casual, but we could have requested a more private booth. The spaghetti carbonara had lots of thick, smoky bacon; my fettucine alfredo was very creamy.

After the mixed reviews I was happy to find the pasta very good, very Italian and very hot. It is very much like a Southern Italian trattoria, no frills, just good quality, pretty speedy service and nice energy. I'll go there again.

Give the dessert a whirl, the almond biscotti ice cream sandwich with carmel was wonderful. For dinner I had the baked ziti, which is a favorite outside of the restaurant, but it was average in the restaurant. The service was average, it is really hard to find parking, so bring an umbrella. A pretty good plate for the money, I reccomend.

For dinner I had the baked ziti, which is a favorite outside of the restaurant, but it was average in the restaurant. The service was average, it is really hard to find parking, so bring an umbrella. A pretty good plate for the money, I reccomend.

Pros: near shopping, inexpensive

Cons: horrible parking, crowded

Don't expect to get giant restaurant-sized portions here or get more than one small triangle of bread with your meal. And by meal, I mean just the pasta you ordered. Salad is extra, bread is extra, extra parmesan is extra!

The spaghetti w/meatballs came al dente and topped with an explosion of fresh garlicky basil marinara sauce and two meltingly tender meatballs. The spaghetti carbonara could've used a little salt, but the bacon was crisp and the peas were bright green. The service was friendly and attentive.

If you'll pay extra for rice at a Chinese place, then you should be fine shelling out the extra $1.50 for the bread you should've got for free.

But it left me with a niggling feeling that I was being cheated somehow.

Still, I'll probably go back because the actual pasta was decent and it is close to our house.

I've been going to Pastini for over two years and there is definitely NO change in the size of their portions. In fact, I can't think of another restaurant where you get so much good food for so little. Don't believe those who tell you there isn't great value here!

Although we like this restaurant and travel from the southwest suburbs to get there, we probably won't return. The menu is good as is the service, its great with kids and the quality of the food is very high. But the portions continue to shrink to the point where it is no longer a great value.

Pastini must be the best value in Portland! We have eaten here several times now and just love the wonderful pastas and reasonable wine list. The food is first-rate with ample portions and fresh, high-quality ingredients. The restaurant is small but stylish and is always packed so it may be a bit noisy with all the energy. We now take all our out-of-town guests there!

This place conjures up bad dining flashes of Macaroni Grill. Selection? My three favorites - Carbonnara, Gnochi, and Lasagna - all absent from the menu. The Cannelloni stuffed with shrimp was weak. The interior was very Z Gallery like, and you had to ask for olive oil and vinegar. Opt for the McChicken with Marinara sauce or something real such as Cafe Mingo, Alessandros or Three Doors Down, but pass on this in-between venue.

This restaurant is not at all like those chain italian restaurants eluded to in other reviews. The menu is inventive, which is what I like, not filled with the same ol' red and white sauce choices. The antipasto platter was huge and filled with tasty treats. Our entrees were both very good, again large portions (we both had leftovers to take home) and the prices can not be beat!

Pastini is a great restaurant! It is a place to get wonderful food fast, good service, and even better value. For those of you who think that it is noisy and crowed need to realize this is not a sit down all evening restaurant and shoot the breeze. We are talking prompt and delicious! I love dining there and will continue!

Hardly worth the wait. The antipasto was good but it does'nt take much to put pre-sliced meats and cheeses together. The pastas were almost unedible
mine was way to salty I couldn't tell you what the flavor was supposed to be all I could taste is salt. On the other hand my wife's pasta had no flavor at all. Personelly I think she got the better deal. The service was avarege. Wine was good . Of course they were out of tiramisu. Agree with one of the previous rewier the place is way too croweded.

I consider Pastini Pastaria the best place to get Italian food in the city. All my friends rave about it, the food is to die for, the prices are outrageously low, and eveyone who works there is good natured a courteus. Five stars.

My daughter and I decided to try Pastini at their new location. We were quite impressed with the decor and the friendly service. Unfortunately, behind this facade we found that the food was not up to the same standard. Both the fettuccine alfredo and rigatoni bolognese lacked flavor. I realize that the concept is to offer pasta at a reasonable price. But at what price? My suggestion would be to raise the quality of the food to match the decor and service

I was surprised to see so many "10" ratings, especially from earlier, so my high expectations were muted somewhat when the food hit the taste buds and my other senses absorbed the surroundings. This is not to say that the food was bad or the dining experience was regrettable, but rather I think some reviews just had a little too much wine :D Levity aside, the place packed a good crowed even during a weekday and the chatter level was quite high. The food was very enjoyable and the service was good, despite the busyness.

A great place to go out on the cheap for good pasta. I try to go at least once a week and I'm never dissapointed. Consistent quality, service and food. If you don't mind a crowded and noisy resturaunt, it's good stuff =).

Note: Wait times are about 15-40 minutes on average, so bring a coat!

The food was good and the price is right, but I have never been in a noisier restaurant. They have packed the maximum number of people in to a very small space and provided nothing that might absorb sound, the result is a painfull dining experiance. However if you are deaf and love Italian food, this could become your favorite restaurant.

Message from Pastini-NE Broadway

Our Portland, Bend, and Corvallis Italian restaurants feature affordable fresh and authentic pastas. As owners, we are personally involved in every aspect of our restaurants. We know that using fresh, local ingredients makes a difference to our customers and to our community. Unlike the big, corporate chains, we handcraft each entrée to order. We begin with sizzling garlic and olive oil, add fresh, local ingredients, and finish with fragrant herbs and grated parmesan. We create all of our soups, sauces, pestos and dressings fresh every day. We hand-form our authentic meatballs. We make our own croutons. We bake the butternut squash that goes into our Rigatoni Zuccati. We roast the balsamic onions for our Spinach Salad Balsamico. We whip the creamy mascarpone that is layered into our handmade Tiramisu. And, we source fresh produce, dairy, artisan breads, coffee, and meat locally. Come in and experience the local difference! Complementing our pastas are authentic antipasti, crisp salads, rustic sandwiches, and handcrafted desserts. Our well-priced wine list includes bottles from both stellar Oregon wineries and small, family-owned vineyards in Italy. Or you can sip a Pastini Italian Cocktail or quaff a local microbrew.
