A friend and I went to a restaurant called Vietnam on west 11th across from Staples in Eugene Oregon. He cracked open his fortune cookie and a mouse dropping fell out. He contacted the waitress and explained that he felt he shouldn't

I have been to Vietnam restaurant with my friends several times because they say it is the only place in Eugene for pho. I do not eat the pho but have ordered a few things off of the menu before and have enjoyed them. Yesterday, we sat down and were greeted by an unfriendly waitress. I asked her to have the cooks make my vegetable chow mein just A LITTLE BIT spicy and I made this very clear. My egg rolls came out DRENCHED in grease and were dripping and had no flavor. Then my plate came out and it was the spiciest food I've ever eaten and everyone at my table agreed. I couldn't even consume the food because it was so spicy, my mouth was on fire and my lips and tongue were NUMB after 2 bites. I drank everyone at the table's water before the waitress came over later to refill all of our waters. I asked if there was anything they could do to fix my order because it was too spicy to consume. She ARGUED with me and said I ordered it that way and it was my fault. She also stated that it "didn't look spicy to her". She then asked if she could sample my noodles and asked me to give her some of my plate, which I did in shock. She never returned to our table once after that and didn't ask if we wanted any boxes and we never received our check. I was so enraged that I told her that I would not pay for the plate because I did not eat any of it. She argued again and told me I ordered it that way and that I had to pay. After arguing with her for a few minutes she told me she wouldn't charge me this time because the owner was not in today but next time I shouldn't order anything spicy and to mix it myself at the table (I wouldn't touch those spices/sauces because they were crusty and sit out all day and night). I told her there wouldn't be a next time because I won't give a business my money when they don't deserve it. Beware of this establishment with poor quality of food and high prices for pho!!

Pros: Only pho in Eugene

Cons: Lacking severely in customer service, bad quality of food

This is my first review, but I wanted to take the opportunity to praise this establishment. They deserve all of the business they can get.

Contrary to what some would say, this is not a hole-in-the-wall in the true sense. It's actually a fairly decently-sized restaurant (probably converted from a Denny's or something like it) with plenty of adequate seating. It's open and airy, as well as bright, having lots of large windows all the way around.

I haven't had too many dishes off the menu besides the french-style iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk, fried tofu and the pho, but I was absolutely thrilled just to find a restaurant that had the real thing. They're a teensy bit more expensive (around $8/bowl) than I'm used to from my days in Seattle (where you can get a gallon of the stuff for not much over $5, along with free cream puffs), and they don't have nearly the variety of choices for what parts of the cow you favor that a restaurant devoted solely to pho would have, but it is the first authentic pho I've had since leaving Seattle.

As an added bonus, they're on a major bus line that I can easily walk to and from.

Pros: reasonably priced, large menu, on the bus line

Cons: not as many options for cuts of meat in the pho, no free cream puffs

The food here was cheap (3 ate lunch for $25) and the service was good. It is definitely a dumpy hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but the food is worth it. The cold rolls (goi coun) were fresh. The peanut sauce was not that great, but it probably would have been better if we had added some hot sauce. The Pho was not greasy and was served with fresh condiments. I had the tofu which was crisp on the outside without being greasy and the sauce was spicy and flavorful.

Pho shouldn't be expensive and hence this place is of no exception. The food is priced so cheap that some wonder how they even make money here. The service is very nice and the place is not as hole in the wall as some may imagine. The food tastes about as cheap as it costs unfortunately.

About the only place in town where you can get a bowl of vietmanese pho noodles. the flavor is alright but it is overly sweet and not strong enough on the spice. but for the price its okay, don't expect spetacular service
