I have been coming here for 8yrs and everytime it is soooo good. I've been to masu, mio, saburukos and the place on gladstone and i prefer ichiban. The quality seems just about as good as the high end places. I enjoy some dishes at ichiban more than the high end sushi joints. I've never been disapointed with ANYTHING not one single time and i've been here probably close to 100 times. Best sushi for the price by far and it is always consistent

I was very suprised at how good this sushi was. And inexpensive too. The sushi comes around on a remote controlled train which is a fun change from the normal conveyor belt.

The servers were very friendly and the atmosphere was awesome. Everyone was tattooed or pierced. Talk about my kinda joint.

Make sure you try the calimari with the sweet chili sauce.

I will come back here for sure!!!

This place is a favorite for cheap sushi. I prefer to sit at the sushi go round which is like a little train that revolves bringing sushi in a continuous manner. You can also ask the boys behind the train set up to make specific rolls for you. Certain nights are cheaper than others, which also means more crowded. The sushi makers are less than Japanese and local young men with tattoos and some with attitude

I really can't believe how good that the food is here for the price.
Everything is made fresh...they take a ton of time prepping the ingredients. Put me in coach I'm ready to play.

Unlike the sterile environs of many sushi places in Portland, Sushi Takahasi dishes up creative hand rolls and sashimi with flair and character. Fun place to take friends and grub for cheap!!

Went on a Wednesday night and didn't have to wait to get a booth, but picking foods off the train by getting up and standing by the train feels a bit akward. The large electric train is cool, the whole place had a very trendy-by-accident feel to it. An angry Japanese woman kept coming out of the back to get orders for special items, which seemed funny and fun to watch. Sushi was at rock-bottom prices and we filled up very cheaply, but the fish didn't suffer from any discount. As we left, a large crowd began to que up to get seating...seems we got there at the right time!

I've been eating sushi my entire life. Salmon sushi is my favorite food ever. For the price and quality and consistency of their salmon sushi, I consider Sushi Takahashi to be my favorite sushi restaraunt EVER! I've been to over 50 sushi places throughout Southern California, Portland, and Seattle. I've been here dozens of times and the salmon has been unbelievably consistent. Add to that the fact it's only $1.50 per order. Yeah!!
Their other sushi is also great. Others have told me they really love it. A friend calls the yakisoba best ever. The sushi goes around the bar on a model train set! Hole in the wall type of place but doesn't feel dirty or anything. Staff is young and hip and still very nice.
Can get busy on sat and wed nights because of discounts.
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: QUALITY, CHEAP, relaxed setting

Cons: streetside parking, sometimes wait, closes early

No frills, but decent sushi. Watch out, it can get very busy on the weekend nights and when they do $1.25 (or is it $1.50?) plates.

Cons: average food, hurried waiters

if you're looking for fancy-pantsy sushi, head elsewhere. this is basic, no frills stuff for way cheap. if you're just looking for a quick fix, you've found the right place!

This place reminds of of sushi for the "common" American. Not to say that the sushi isn't authentic or good, it is...but that its a no-frills joint where you don't have to put up with snobs or shell out a lot of cash for decent sushi.

I've also been to Koji (their teriyaki chicken wings are killer), but on the whole, I agree with the other reviewer who said, "Why pay more?". The value at Takahashi is incredible.

My suggestion is to skip the items on the train (that look like they never get pulled or replaced) and fill out a white card to order fresh.

I take my friends from Japan to Takahashi's because it is the best you can get in Portland. The Japanese agree. I've been to Todai, Bush, and Koji's and they are not bad but why pay more? So, if you can get over not paying a lot for sushi than this is the place for you. Oh, don't let the chefs' uniforms fool you, the chefs are top knotch.

I love Sushi Takahasi. The waitresses are always great as are the sushi chefs. It has a relaxed atmosphere. The prices are good, and the sushi is delectable! I always take friends who have never been, and have got nothing but rave reviews everytime!

The sushi isn't great, but this place is great for the low-budgeted sushi addict who just NEEDS a fix while they save up for the pricier (and better) joints in town. Although nothing special, Takahasi's got the basics covered and the fish is reasonably fresh. Also good for familieskids love the food-laden train.

Cheap sushi at cheap prices.

I tried their Wednesday Special when their $2.25, $1.75 and $1.25 plates are priced at $1.25. This seemingly great deal can be had only if you order the higher priced items, as most of the plates going around the train are the $1.25 items.

The wait was about 30 minutes inside the restaurant and you MUST sign up to be called. It was crowded, crampy and the service was generally poor. Much of the fish were stored at the room temperature and the chefs seemed young and inexperienced. One of them forgot my order so I got it about twenty minutes later. Virtually all the items I tried lacked freshness.

Throughout this dining experience I was telling myself that you get what you pay for.

This place is a Shshi Hole-in-the-wall, located in busy downtown area. Parking in non-existent and the restaurant was pretty crowded when we had lunch during a weekday. Despite constant chatter and buzz, we got a decent service and what matter the most - the food - was very good. We didn't sit by the "train station", but instead ordered bunch of a la carte items. They were all very fresh and tasty.

Complete with a locomotive that travels around the sushi bar carrying the sushi as cargo, this is a great place for beginners! The staff is very helpful with answering questions and the food is delicious and VERY inexpensive!

I love Sushi Takahashi. My only complaint is one of the waitresses is very anti social. I think all of the people working behind the train are great though and really make you feel comfortable, unlike some places where they can't even tell the difference between tako and taco.

Okay, do the people who gave this place a 10 work there? Wow, this was just terrible. The place stunk. The fish stunk. Even the veggies stunk.... While waiting for a table (and I don't know so many people go there.. amazed).. one lady who knew one of the employees, asked discretely if the salmon smelled ok? I SHOULD HAVE LEFT THEN. The revolving bar, a joke! A train that carries 8-10 plates... You order from the "sushi chefs".. They give you what looks like day old sushi, or at least the veggies are. I have tried every revolving bar, and my favorite is Sushi Town in Tanasbourne, then Sushi Land in Beaverton, and Sushi Star in Beaverton. I Love Sushi is the best sushi bar in the city. If I could give this place a negative, I would.

I usualy go to the main place out on Division but have gone to this annex a few times. It is by far the cooler of the so called "hip" sushi places in the downtown area. The train idea is very neat, I first saw this done in NYC and it works well here. The sushi was fresh, tasty and the price was amazing. My kids loved the whole experience, they are even getting into sushi past the "eww" stage thanks to this place. Run do not walk to this fine sushi place.
