We take our 2 pugs to see Dr. Quirk who we are told is a "pug" specialist. He's great, the staff is kind and courteous. Seems to be a bit expensive, but I know my animals are in good hands with them.

The stay is very caring and kind and I am comfortable with my animals there. i have personally known a number of the staff who work there and i believe they treat my animals the same way they would treat their own animals.

I like the vet at this clinic and she seems very thorough. They have a play room for children in their waiting area. They are on the expensive side. It's easy to get an appointment. They have a good selection of pet food and treats in the waiting area. The doctor was very clear in her explanation of treatments and my options.

Great atmosphere
by sru88
I've been taking my cat here (he is over a year old now) since he was a baby, and I haven't had any bad experiences. He was neutered there, and I felt very comfortable leaving him there while I was at work. The front desk staff is very friendly, and the very first doctor I worked with (Can't remember her name) was the nicest lady ever. I think she is quite possibly even more friendly than my OWN doctor!
All and all, I will continue to go here, although a little more pricey than I would like to pay, it's worth it.
Pros: Complimentary beverages, comfortable waiting room & exam roo
Cons: $$$

Bad service and unnecessary exams
by blackstar66
I have been going to Rose City for over a decade. I have loved their services and all the staff until this past 18 months. There has been turn over of the front desk staff and they are no longer able to read a record on the computer, find a chart, or provide the most basic functions. I have sat for 15 minutes with an elderly cat while they tried to find my chart, then had to goto the front desk and demand my cat back as they left me waiting for her for over 15 in the exam room.
The reason I will no longer go back is that they are now requiring unnecessary exams and tests. My cat is on medication and they refused to give me her refill unless I brought her in for a 6 month "wellness" exam. Although they know the status of my cat and my wishes that at 22 she be allowed to live out her remaining time in comfort and that there is nothing they can do for her beyond what we are already doing, I had to argue to get her medication and still had to make an appointment.
I have moved to another Veterinary Hospital which understands animals and heeds the wishes of the owner and the best care for the animal. Rose City seems to be only about the money now. Which is a shame.
Pros: They used to be the best in town.
Cons: They no longer care about much of anything

Best Boarding in the City
by hbm32000
I have used the boarding service for my two scottish terriers for several years now. I have never had a problem with the service. I always paid what I expected to pay. The staff has been upfront, proffessional, and courteous to me. Most importantly, my dogs got service in facilities that are clean. The kennel webcam feature is very innoviative. The thing I would say is that Rose City Vet Boarding Service cares for my dogs with the same level of detail that I provide.
Pros: The best facilities
Cons: not the low cost provider but you do get what you pay for in this case.

EXCELLENT, empathetic vet
by reasonablefoodie
dr. quirk has been seeing my dog zoe for a few years now, and tolerates my nervous-dog-mom moments so well, with compassion and care. upon moving to portland, i shopped 5-6 different vets, and wouldn't ever dream of taking zoe elsewhere. i'm SO glad my friends referred us to rose city vet - the entire staff has been super-attentive and responsible, the office is lovely (coffee, soda, and COOKIES (for both people and dogs)) and the docs great. hands-down the best vet experience i've ever had in years of pet ownership.
Pros: staff, doctors, office, everything.
Cons: can't think of one.

Excellent veterinary clinic that I highly recommend
by JuliaCecil
I did a lot of research to find a great vet in the Portland area for my new dog. Dr. Lisa Berger is a fantastic vet who is so incredibly thorough! She takes all the time that we need to go over questions and she couldn't be sweeter with my dog. The waiting time at the office is minimal - I don't think I've waited to see the doctor for more than 5 minutes!
We've had to go to the office a few times over the past month because of food allergies and Dr. Berger has gone above and beyond, even calling me personally to check in on Quinn (my pup). The entire staff is wonderful and the facility is gorgeous with tons of state-of-the-art equipment. I highly recommend Rose City Veterinary Hospital!
Pros: Easy parking, superior service, very little waiting time, beautiful facility, boarding
Cons: None that I can think of

Terrible admin staff and customer service
by waywardp
We boarded our pet with Rose City Vets recently and everything was clean and friendly and I'm sure our pet received great care but when I first called they told us one price and then when I made the reservation it was another, higher price.
We were also told our pet would need a shot that would be one price, but when we went to pay it was another, higher price. We also were told (after the fact) that they had done (and charged us) for an exam. It makes sense to check out an animal before you administer a shot, but no one told us about it and if we are going to have to pay for an exam we'd like to at least know about it so we can be there to hear what the vet has to say and ask the general health questions we have.
The whole process was so frustrating. Every time we turned around it was costing us more than we were told and the only apology was pretty bland with a defensive tone, like we were in the wrong somehow.
Seems like a nice place and I get the sense that the animals receive great care, but there is no way we'll use them again.
Pros: Clean, friendly, animals seem well taken care of
Cons: Administration process needs an overhall

Great vet care and reasonably priced
by gkeyt
Dr Quick is thorough, professional and relatively conservative in his care. I expected to have a ton of recommended services and labs when I took my 7 year old cat for a checkup, but he did a thorough examination, found her in good health, and put her on a 3-year rotation for her vaccinations, which I thought was excellent since she is an indoor-only cat who is never exposed to anything other than our household. When I later had to bring her in urgently, it was easy to make an appointment, and they even have Saturday hours. The bill both times was quite reasonable. The clinic itself is beautiful. My only complaint is that it would be better if there were separate cat & dog entrances--my cat got pretty terrified of all the dogs coming in. Other than that, I'm very satisfied.
Pros: Quality care, reasonable prices, nice clinic
Cons: No separate cat/dog entrances
