This is a wonderful vet. I've worked with Dr. Quirk and Dr. Berger, and both are kind, love animals, and are pleasure to work with. They have a beautiful office with friendly staff, free drinks and snacks for customers (2 and 4 legged) and even the dogs love going there!

We take our 2 pugs to see Dr. Quirk who we are told is a "pug" specialist. He's great, the staff is kind and courteous. Seems to be a bit expensive, but I know my animals are in good hands with them.

The stay is very caring and kind and I am comfortable with my animals there. i have personally known a number of the staff who work there and i believe they treat my animals the same way they would treat their own animals.

I like the vet at this clinic and she seems very thorough. They have a play room for children in their waiting area. They are on the expensive side. It's easy to get an appointment. They have a good selection of pet food and treats in the waiting area. The doctor was very clear in her explanation of treatments and my options.

Love this place! I wouldn't have my dog stay anywhere else. My dog goes into a deep depression for at least 24 hours after coming home because she has so much fun at Safe Journey

We have taken all of our various Scottie dogs to Rose City Veterinary for close to twenty years and have found the care, the facilities, and the staff to be among the best in Portland. We suggest you access their kennel web cam so you can see pets during boarding. Also, the building itself is a gorgeous remake of the much older and rundown clinic it replaced. The medical lab is one of the best in the state and we have always gotten quick and accurate diagnosis and prescriptions with same day service. Great people!

I began taking my three animals to Rose City Vet about six years ago. Although the doctors' exams were somewhat rushed, I was generally satisfied with the service and care received. Things went markedly downhill last year. After an annual wellness exam, the price quoted to me at the register seemed high and I asked for a printout. The doctor had pre-charged me for a fecal test (about $40), which I was supposed to bring in later. I requested the charge be removed and that I be billed at the time of sample drop-off. I asked that a note be included in my file for a printout prior to payment at every visit. (The fact this was not customary procedure should have been a red flag for me earlier.) This happened again during a subsequent visit when the doctor pre-charged me a comparable fee for a urine sample. In both cases, I was never told by the doctor or office staff that the charge was being added to the bill. Fortunately I had the statement to review and asked that it be removed. I often wonder how many other untold charges were included in previous bills that I paid in good faith based on the doctor's instructions.\r\n\r\nDuring another visit, the doctor came back into the exam room and told me she had also completed a titer (vaccination test) for my dog because it was listed as overdue in the medical file. I am on a severely limited income and the additional $50 charge was neither discussed beforehand, let alone approved. I particularly felt taken advantage of because the doctor was well-aware of my financial situation. I am still flabbergasted that the doctor would perform a test without the pet parent's knowledge or permission. \r\n\r\nI also echo the sentiments of other reviewers who felt they were held hostage to prescription refills by the doctors' requirement for unnecessary and expensive tests. One prescription did have a federal requirement for regular testing, but not at the frequency required by the doctor. \r\n\r\nFinally, there appears to have been large turnover in office staff and the poor quality of service is a direct consequence. During every visit over the last year, there has been a negative incident: numerous billing errors at the register, inaccurate recordkeeping, forgetting to provide purchased products before leaving...the list goes on and on. \r\n\r\nLike most pet parents, the relationship we have with our vet is important and hopefully long term. At some point, however, it comes time to make a change because the relationship is not what it was. That was certainly our case with Rose City Vet, and it appears we are not the only customers to finally say ""enough"" and move on. It's sad to see them change from a neighboorhood clinice to a corporate-like, money-focused organization.

I brought my two cats for wellness exam. The vet reported the results of exams quite well via the phone. These seemed pretty nice. But the price were very expensive!!!\n\nOne of my cats' profile results looked strange. I was not sure about the test. So I repaid for some of the exam to confirm my cat's symptom. At that time the cat was brought to take blood sample and urine for check. After they returned the cat to me and told me about the day to call to inform the results. I paid and went home. The vet called the next day and left a message to the phone that she could not get urine sample from the cat on that day. I thought that they didn't inform me about not getting the urine sample which I paid for it already.\n\nOn day the vet called to follow up the symptom of one of the cats. I went to the hospital with the cat to have some checks. While I was waiting for the cat to be checked, at the front desk workers at the hospital talked and laughed so loud, very annoying. After checking, they said that they could not get urine sample from my cat and told me to pay again if I would like my cat to have urine check because they will provide checking within a period of 1 month after paying only. Is this fare? I did not say anything much. I think I am done with this hospital.\nThey never told me about this stuff. They just let the time go after getting money from customers, then told the customers that this was your fault, it was your cost. It seems like they don't care. Your money, not mine. I will never return to use the service from this hospital again.

Pros: The examination service seems nice and sympthetic vet.

Cons: The communication after examination were incomplete.

I've been taking my cat here (he is over a year old now) since he was a baby, and I haven't had any bad experiences. He was neutered there, and I felt very comfortable leaving him there while I was at work. The front desk staff is very friendly, and the very first doctor I worked with (Can't remember her name) was the nicest lady ever. I think she is quite possibly even more friendly than my OWN doctor! \r\n\r\nAll and all, I will continue to go here, although a little more pricey than I would like to pay, it's worth it.

I have been going to Rose City for over a decade. I have loved their services and all the staff until this past 18 months. There has been turn over of the front desk staff and they are no longer able to read a record on the computer, find a chart, or provide the most basic functions. I have sat for 15 minutes with an elderly cat while they tried to find my chart, then had to goto the front desk and demand my cat back as they left me waiting for her for over 15 in the exam room.\n\nThe reason I will no longer go back is that they are now requiring unnecessary exams and tests. My cat is on medication and they refused to give me her refill unless I brought her in for a 6 month ""wellness"" exam. Although they know the status of my cat and my wishes that at 22 she be allowed to live out her remaining time in comfort and that there is nothing they can do for her beyond what we are already doing, I had to argue to get her medication and still had to make an appointment.\n\nI have moved to another Veterinary Hospital which understands animals and heeds the wishes of the owner and the best care for the animal. Rose City seems to be only about the money now. Which is a shame.

I have used the boarding service for my two scottish terriers for several years now. I have never had a problem with the service. I always paid what I expected to pay. The staff has been upfront, proffessional, and courteous to me. Most importantly, my dogs got service in facilities that are clean. The kennel webcam feature is very innoviative. The thing I would say is that Rose City Vet Boarding Service cares for my dogs with the same level of detail that I provide.

dr. quirk has been seeing my dog zoe for a few years now, and tolerates my nervous-dog-mom moments so well, with compassion and care. upon moving to portland, i shopped 5-6 different vets, and wouldn't ever dream of taking zoe elsewhere. i'm SO glad my friends referred us to rose city vet - the entire staff has been super-attentive and responsible, the office is lovely (coffee, soda, and COOKIES (for both people and dogs)) and the docs great. hands-down the best vet experience i've ever had in years of pet ownership.

I did a lot of research to find a great vet in the Portland area for my new dog. Dr. Lisa Berger is a fantastic vet who is so incredibly thorough! She takes all the time that we need to go over questions and she couldn't be sweeter with my dog. The waiting time at the office is minimal - I don't think I've waited to see the doctor for more than 5 minutes!\r\nWe've had to go to the office a few times over the past month because of food allergies and Dr. Berger has gone above and beyond, even calling me personally to check in on Quinn (my pup). The entire staff is wonderful and the facility is gorgeous with tons of state-of-the-art equipment. I highly recommend Rose City Veterinary Hospital!

We boarded our pet with Rose City Vets recently and everything was clean and friendly and I'm sure our pet received great care but when I first called they told us one price and then when I made the reservation it was another, higher price.\r\n\r\nWe were also told our pet would need a shot that would be one price, but when we went to pay it was another, higher price. We also were told (after the fact) that they had done (and charged us) for an exam. It makes sense to check out an animal before you administer a shot, but no one told us about it and if we are going to have to pay for an exam we'd like to at least know about it so we can be there to hear what the vet has to say and ask the general health questions we have.\r\n\r\nThe whole process was so frustrating. Every time we turned around it was costing us more than we were told and the only apology was pretty bland with a defensive tone, like we were in the wrong somehow. \r\n\r\nSeems like a nice place and I get the sense that the animals receive great care, but there is no way we'll use them again.

Cons: Administration process needs an overhall

Dr Quick is thorough, professional and relatively conservative in his care. I expected to have a ton of recommended services and labs when I took my 7 year old cat for a checkup, but he did a thorough examination, found her in good health, and put her on a 3-year rotation for her vaccinations, which I thought was excellent since she is an indoor-only cat who is never exposed to anything other than our household. When I later had to bring her in urgently, it was easy to make an appointment, and they even have Saturday hours. The bill both times was quite reasonable. The clinic itself is beautiful. My only complaint is that it would be better if there were separate cat & dog entrances--my cat got pretty terrified of all the dogs coming in. Other than that, I'm very satisfied.
