We have been eating here for years and always enjoyed it until recently. The people at the front are always playing on their electronics and can't seem to get an order right. They were rude when I called them to tell them they got my order

We ordered three main dishes. One had the worst scallops I've ever seen, tiny and overcooked pieces of rubber. One of the three dishes was acceptable but not good, the rest was the worst Chinese food I have ever ordered and for about

Sometimes you just want to taste American Chinese food from the 50's and 60's. You get a craving for the tastes and sauces you grew up with -- sweet/sour sauce, Americanized dishes... and that is NOT a bad thing.Nothing is cutting edge

I LOVE their fried sesame chicken. It is the perfect match with the red sauce that goes with it. The combination dinners are really good, too. They give you a variety of choices to chose from. The waitresses are really friendly. They always have this really pretty smile on their face and they take orders really fast and efficient. I just love this place.

Pros: Best fried sesame chicken in town

It was my first time going to this place last week, and I loved their sesame chicken. I also like their house special fried rice. They are awesome. Talking about these dishes makes my mouth water.

I have been to this restaurant for the past 5 years and I have been loving it. There food keep drawing me back there even though I live all the way in Portland. Their food is fantastic. I especially like to order their eggrolls, pork fried rice and medallion beef. The beef is really tender and their eggrolls are big and delicious. All the waitresses there are really nice, especially the main waitress lady. They recently remodeled the bathroom, and it looks good.

The fried chicken and Shrimp are the best with their special red sauce. Their fried stuff are freshly made, unlike other restaurants where they just reheat the fried foods. Also I love their house special fried rice. One of the best fried rice I have ever had.

From the outside you can see smushed, dingy stained curtains in the upstairs window--take that as a beware sign. Hopefully my review will help you decide to go somewhere else. I would rather eat MickeyD nuggets with sweet and sour sauce (which are horrible enough!) than ever go back to Golden Crown. The food was horrible, the presentation (dishes, arrangement, color) like a school cafeteria, and the place was DARK--you could barely see. My husband and I were very disappointed and want to share this so others wouldn't bother to waste a meal out here.

We'd been here a few times and food was pretty good. We usually order lemon chicken and almond chicken subgum chow mein with pan fried noodles. The 'hostess' has never been friendly but waitresses are pleasent and service was good. Twice, when getting food to go, we'd arrive home and discover there weren't any almonds on the chow mein. We went there Sat. night (3-21-09) to pickup a to go order. We'd decided to try pork egg foo young and our mainstay, almond chicken sub gum chow mein. The pork egg foo young was horrible, like ground up soy , texture of sawdust and glue! And our favorite chow mein was mostly celery. That is the last time they will disappont us. Now we are looking for a GOOD tasting Chinese place to eat in WA. county.

The quantities of food served were quite generous, however the quality and taste were lacking. Pot stickers were large, but bland and doughy, shrimp chow mien was tasteless. Their house specialty dish - pan fried shrimp as featured in their television commericals must have been a "bait and switch" gimmick because the shrimps were small and the preparation was very bland. The service was poor and matched the food.Having lived on the west coast in San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland we are accustomed to good Chinese food. The Golden Crown is a poor substitute for a Chinese restaurant.Jerry/lake oswego

It is one of the best restaurant that I have been to. Don't let the price on the menu scare you. Though it may seemed expensive at first, but it is actually a decent price for the food. They give you a big portion for your money. The waitress are also very nice and the atmosphere is perfect. It has a retro elegance to it. I would highly recommand anyone who wants to experience a great atmosphere while dining on the delicious food.

If you are looking for something really look like American Chinese but not real Chinese (I am not talking about the food at all, only the look), you can come here. But if you are Chinese, please don't even think about coming here because they don't serve Chinese food (not at all Chinese food). It looks like Chinese food but taste really bad. I am a Cantonese and they claim to serve "hong kong and Canton" food. This is really bad since I never eat something so bad before. If you are really thinking about coming here and looking for American Chinese, panda express is better.

******At least, anyway, DON'T COME!!!!*********I waste my time, my money and had a very bad stomach yesterday.

My family went to this place because my niece remembered going when she was young. Oh YUCK! I should have guessed from the outside it would be bad. There are stained, disgusting curtains on the upper windows that probably have been there since the place was built. Then, upon reaching the front door, there was a side door opened with cardboard etc. spilling out from it. It reeked of stale smoke as we entered the main foyer. Still, I didn't want to dissapoint the other five people (three of whom were already seated) by leaving immediately, so I bravely led my husband and son in. We were seated in the way back so the smoke smell wasn't so bad. I had hope. I've seen commercials for this place recently and it looked yummy. We ordered from a lady who probably had worked there for many years, she was barely able to keep herself at our table long enough to take our orders, didn't even ask if we wanted beverages, I had to stop her from leaving in order to do so. My niece had to go the restroom, so I accompanied her. Holy smokes, too disgusting for words, peeling wallpaper and all. I cannot believe they are in business. After that I was scared to eat the food that was on it's way. The appetizers we ordered were greasy and bland. The food looked like it was all previously frozen. I barely ate a bite from each just to be sure I wasn't in a bad dream! It was expensive, gross, and tasteless. I will never return and even checked to see if they had complied with the food police, unfortunately they had not had an inspection recently. DON'T GO!! It's awful.

This is a very large restaurant and have never had much of a wait if any. We usually prefer to eat in the lounge due to the atmosphere. It is a little darker than the main restaurant and more intimate feeling. They have a full service bar. Prices for both food and drinks are fairly reasonable. They have a wide selection of foods. Recommend it highly.

After my experience at this restaurant, I feel compelled to tell others as a warning.

First off, this place is kind of spendy for a Chinese restaurant, but you figure if it's expensive it might be good right? That's what my husband and I figured. We ordered plate of Mandarin beef for $12.50. What was brought to us was not Mandarin beef, but some kind of horrible TV dinner meat swimming in gravy and onions. And a small ice-cream scooped slab of rice. And it looked so disgusting. It appeared as though dead slugs were simmered in pudding gravy juice. And it tasted that way too. The waitress even came up to us and said that the Mandarin beef didn't look right. She was nice so I didn't have the heart to tell her what a poor excuse this was for food and how I wanted my money back. We took a couple of bites and promptly left mentally scarred.

While there I had my husband look up what was actually in Mandarin beef. Ginger and various other Chinese spices. What they did to this meal is what Jeffrey Dahmer did to little boys. Please, for the love of God, do not go here.

We have been going to Golden Crown for over 25 years. We have gone with large parties (20 people), with kids, and as a couple. We have also gotten take-out MANY times. I love their Pork Fried Rice (I don't think it's dry, I think it is refreshingly NOT greasy), the sweet and sour sesame chicken, Subgum chowmein, and Fried Shrimp. My husband loves the General Tso's Chicken, mandarin chicken and the potstickers. In reading most of the other reviews, it appears that people love it or hate it. WE LOVE IT! I will say that their biggest negative is the smokey smell. We frequently order take-out so that we don't smell like an ashtray when we leave. Otherwise, I think the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. Most of the employees have all worked there more than the 25 years we have been going.

This restaraunt makes my mother's favorite Chinese food and, well, mine too. Apparently a ton of other people like it too, because the parking lot is almost always full. The fried rice is not greasy (other people here have said it's dry, but probably because they're accustomed to greasy fried rice), the barbeque pork (and everything else I've tried) is superb. The french fries are obviously what you could get in the freezer section of any grocery store, but hey, it's a Chinese restaurant! Eat the chinese food!

This is my favorite restaurant, hands down. When I have Chinese elsewhere, it does not compare. The service is excellent, and I love the atmosphere--mellow and comfortable, but classy at the same time.

I recently turned 21 and must say the karaoke in the lounge is a blast! Everyone is really friendly and you can have your yummy food and enjoy karaoke and cocktails.

All in all, Golden Crown rocks! Try a #1 and you'll never be able to eat other Chinese!

I liked how spacious the restaurant felt. We went in the afternoon, so that might have had something to do with it. I think there were only four other parties dining at the time. The food was pretty good. The prices were a bit heavy on the wallet for decent-but-not-spectacular food. I liked how we sat near the windows which looked out onto a tranquil pond. They were pretty slow in refilling drinks and getting our check, but overall I'd say the experience was decent.

This is the worst chinese restaurant I've ever been. I've gone there 3 times, tried different (chinese) food, and they were either okay or way below average. One night for their karaoke, and our french fries were one of those freezer-to-oven crinkle cut fries, served pretty cold and soggy. Don't go there for food...you've probably had better at another restaurant.

This is one of the worst chineese resturants I have ever eaten at, as far as the food is concerned. If you like piles of mediocre chineese food, this is the place. The rice was dry and a bit under done, all of the food tastes the same. I couldnt tell the difference between the chicken and the beef and all of the vegatables tasted the same too. Avoid this place.

Uninspiring is probably the best I can say for Golden Crown... Greasy egg rolls, vegetables stir fried to the point of flaccidity, tasteless dishes, mediocre service, dark atmosphere, and high prices all combine for an interesting (in the Chinese sense of the word) dining experience. If this is one of the best the city can offer, best get a copy of The Classic Chinese Cookbook by Mai Leung and go it on your own

I live in SE Portland and I've been going to the Golden Crown for years and I must say that I love it.

It starts with the totally cool round building and unintentionally retro decor and continues with fast, friendly service.

I'm one of those people who sticks to the same thing but I must say, the food I DO get is terrific. I usually get the #1 combo which consists of pork fried rice, chicken subgum chow mein, fried shrimp and sesame chicken.

Now, ya know how a lot of Chinese food places give you that low-grade fatty chicken? I HATE that! The sesame chicken here is lean white meat chicken breast. It's crispy battered with sesame seeds and is A D D I C T I V E!

I've never had a bad experience here. I don't usually write reviews but this place is worth it.

This place is great. Try going on a weeknight and it's like you have the entire place to yourself. The food is good and you get alot for your money. The main waitress is nice and the building is massive! I recommend this place to anybody if you want a quiet relaxing place to eat Chinese food. The food tends to be on the salty side, but that is minor compared to the portions and the ambience.

After seeing all the glowing reviews, my wife and I decided to head on down the street to have dinner here. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken and my wife had the Mongolian Beef. When our food arrived, the only way we could tell them apart was by cutting it open and guessing as to chicken or beef. They had the same sauce, and boy, was it a lousy sauce. We each took a few bites, then left - quite possibly the worst Chinese food (or restaurant food, not sure) that we've ever eaten. Maybe the drinks are good, but eat somewhere else.

Since this place is in walking distance of my house its great for getting trashed, a little karaoke, some cheap bar snacks, and a short walk home. I have never eatten the resturant food, but the bar food is well worth the $1.95/item. The waitress is always nice and keeps the drinks comming. Its got this late 60's early 70's funky decor going on. Check out the ladies bathroom for some very retro wallpaper.
